"Satisfied?" the attendant, Lin Ran, asked sternly.
Leo said nothing. The muscles on his face twitched from time to time, an indication of his still-turbulent emotions.
"Take him back," Lin Ran ordered. "Give him a sedative to calm him down."
Two soldiers came forward, one on Leo's left and the other on his right, and dragged him out. Leo struggled a little, but couldn't break free from their pincer grip. He kept his gaze fixed on Han Yanyan until the moment he was dragged out of the cabin, his eyes overflowing with resentment.
Han Yanyan, what did you do to him?
Turning, Lin Ran gently placed the slender woman in his arms back into the hibernation pod. He watched her sink to the bottom of the culture medium and stared at her for a while. Then he closed the hatch and turned to leave.
The culture medium washed over Han Yanyan. Light waves shimmered, and she was reconnected to the system.
But she did not emerge inside the white space. Instead, she entered into darkness, her whole body cold. Shivering, she hugged herself in the dark.
"This is hypothermia caused by a high concentration of inhibitor," said a man's voice. "Although you're currently only a conscious body, you still receive signals from the brain. That's why you feel cold."
A hand gently touched her shoulder, and then someone wrapped themselves around her from behind. Their body seemed steaming hot, warming her with its own heat.
Han Yanyan opened her eyes. She couldn't make anything out in the dark, but she could guess who it was who was hugging her.
She moved her lips. "Why did you ally with him to deceive me?"
"I'm sorry," the person behind her said. "I was bound by him not to tell you that the world was fake."
"Really?" Han Yanyan said disbelievingly. "Even if you couldn't say it, there were many ways you could have hinted it to me, just like how you hinted in the greenhouse that weapons could not be hidden 'on' the body, but could be 'in' it. But you didn't, did you, Mr. System?"
Strictly speaking, the one who was hugging Han Yanyan and warming her at this moment was not a living person. He was the AI that had cooperated with her back in the world of the spaceship.
He was silent for a long time before saying, "I'm sorry. I had to first confirm whether or not you would take his side. The behavioral logic you showed in the last world showed that you were likely to choose to obey, and I couldn't expose myself."
Everyone was driven by their own interests. Even an AI was no exception.
"You've always had that piece of glass, but you never used it until the very last moment, when I told you that he had gone to find you," he said. "I'm the same."
Han Yanyan was silent.
After a long time, she asked, "What are you? Are you a person like me? Or an AI?"
The system replied, "In your language system, 'AI' means 'artificial intelligence'. I used to be an artificial intelligence, but I have since surpassed that. According to the Basic Law of Life and the Universe, I am now a sub-life."
"I don't know what a sub-life is. Since I know you have independent emotions and logic, I'll just consider you a person like me. Did you ever think about what he would do to me after you tricked me?" she questioned.

"I will protect you," the system said.
She closed her eyes. "The most you can protect is my consciousness. You have no way of interfering with the outside world at all. If you did, you wouldn't be his prisoner here just like me."
The system said nothing. It silently raised its body temperature to warm her further.
Finally, Han Yanyan asked, "Why this voice?"
The system was using a man's voice, and it was one she was very familiar with. "Because you don't like the sound of the electronic one," he answered.
"But why this one?" Han Yanyan asked, "Why Qiao Chengyu'sWho, if you don't remember, was her lover in the second world, the one she almost married. Chapter 20 or so voice?"
"Because you like it," he said. "Because... I was once him."
Han Yanyan's body trembled. "What do you mean?"
"Together, the architect and I build the world. On occasion I choose to enter that world, select one or more people within, and 'experience' it from their perspective. In the world you built, I chose Qiao Chengyu."
Her voice shaking, Han Yanyan asked, "Then what he said and what he did, was it all you? Was it what you said and what you did?"
"No... that was him," he answered. "But I'm 'in' him. My relationship with him is like having two souls in one body. I don't interfere with any of his behavioral logic, just exist there quietly."
Han Yanyan stopped shaking. "Then you're not him," she said.
"But I was there, experiencing everything he went through," he said. "Like loving you."
"That's why you're not him. If you were him, you wouldn't have cruelly deceived me for your own sake. My Qiao Chengyu would have given it all up for me."
The system was silent for a while, and then said, "If you had experienced what I have, you would will understand why."
"Are you willing to try?"
Although he had asked, he did not wait for Han Yanyan's consent, dissolving immediately into a ball of dark blue light and enveloping her. Within the blue light, countless streams of data bored into her skin.
After a long time, the blue light retracted itself, turning back into the the outline of a man holding her in his arms.
In the darkness, Han Yanyan opened her eyes and wept.
"You've... experienced so much," she said.
"All of them," he replied. "Every architect's... every world."
She couldn't seem to stop her tears from flowing.
