Although there was a lot of fuss being made, Yao Chen was not scared. He had been invited to the police station for tea many times and was quite used to it. He had even generously presented the police station with a high-quality coffee machine and several boxes of excellent tea and coffee beans, so as not to have to drink low-quality, cheap tea when invited over.

But this time was different. This time, Jiang Ye had an arrest warrant.

When Yao Chen saw the arrest warrant, his eyes narrowed, and a sense of foreboding rose in his heart. But he didn't resist. Resisting arrest was the obstruction of official duty. Law-abiding citizens never resisted. Very calmly, he put his hands out and let them handcuff him, saying only, "My wife is pregnant. Please try not to scare her."

Before being taken away by the police, he held Han Yanyan's hands in his handcuffed ones, gently comforting her in a composed manner. "It's alright, don't be afraid. Old Wu will be there." He was talking about his lawyer, who had worked with him for ten years. Who knew how many times Old Wu had fished him out of the police station, or how many of his deeds had been erased?

Jiang Ye stood beside him, his state of mind much too complicated to say anything.

When the police had escorted Yao Chen away and there was no one else in the house, Jiang Ye said to Han Yanyan, "Go get ready. We'll leave first, and then you'll follow."

Han Yanyan nodded.

Jiang Ye placed her in the witness protection program. Yao Chen's cruelty was legendary, and his people were the same. Although they had arrested a great many tonight, some would definitely get away, and as an important witness Han Yanyan must be protected.

Before he left, Jiang Ye scrutinized Han Yanyan's belly.

"What's the matter?" she asked.

"If your child... Yao Chen's?" Jiang Ye finally couldn't help but ask. Then he realized how offensive he had been and apologized. "No, I didn't mean to say that. I just wanted to ask... to ask..."

To ask what? He couldn't say. Actually, what he had said was exactly what he had meant. Both of them understand.

"Yes." Han Yanyan touched her belly and smiled. "The baby is Yao Chen's. There is no other man."

Jiang Ye's last guess was ruled out. He felt like in this life, he would either die at the hands of a criminal or suffocate alive from never knowing what Han Yanyan was hiding.

It was Jiang Ye's girlfriend who was responsible for Han Yanyan's personal safety. She was the same policewoman who had once worked undercover at Jinhao before being found out by Han Yanyan, so the two of them knew each other.

Jiang Ye spoke to her for a short while before leaving to follow after Yao Chen.

"Go ahead and pack up some clothes and your things… and bring your medicine, if you need to take medicine."

The policewoman was several years older than Han Yanyan, but neither married nor with children. However, she had heard that pregnant women needed to take vitamins or folic acid or something, so she gave her a reminder. She was a very caring and decent person.

She was the exact substitute for "Policewoman Han Yanyan" from the last time around.

Han Yanyan headed upstairs and dragged a suitcase down, apparently already ready.

"Let's go," she said.

Once out of the gate, she didn't look back. She got straight into the police car and never took a second look at Yao Chen and her home.

On the way, the policewoman said, "He must have hurt you. People like him are awful."

"No," Han Yanyan replied casually. "He was very good to me. He has always been very good to me."

She was thinking right then that she and Yao Chen actually weren't a bad match after all.

Yao Chen had the feeling that this time entering the palace was very different than all the times before. Old Wu was nowhere to be seen, and he failed to make a quick and elegant exit.

However, he was a man who had weathered many storms. His nerves were made of steel. He didn't panic and before Old Wu appeared, said not a word.

But when Old Wu finally arrived, he found that his lawyer's face was extremely ugly indeed.

"You might be done for this time," Old Wu said.

Yao Chen's eyes narrowed.

"They have all the evidence. And..." Old Wu gritted his teeth, "A witness. The witness is truly... powerful."

Rage flared on Yao Chen's face.

"Who was it?" He gritted his teeth. "Who was that son of a bitch?"

He had always known there was a mole somewhere beside him, he just didn't know who. When he found out, he would chop them up and feed them to the tortoises in Qingshui Bay!

As a lawyer, Old Wu was often tasked with telling hard truths that were difficult to face. But it was the first time he had felt so embarrassed doing so.

"It's…" he said with difficulty, "your wife."

Han Yanyan, this beautiful, charming little girl. Old Wu had witnessed with his own eyes how she had trapped Yao Chen step by step. He had been the chief witness at their wedding. What Yao Chen had been like before marriage, what he was like after marriage, and how he trusted Han Yanyan with all his heart - Old Wu knew all about it.

As a fellow man, he felt sorry for Yao Chen.

Decades of foundation, destroyed in the hands of a woman. No, more than that, what she had done was akin to sending Yao Chen into a death trap.

What sort of enmity was this? What kind of resentment? Yao Chen had treated her... so well!

Yao Chen was unable to react for a few seconds.

"What are you talking about?" he blinked. "Yanyan is my wife--"

His words halted abruptly. Because Old Wu's eyes were full of pity - intolerable, unbearable, humiliating pity. Not once in Yao Chen's life had he ever been such an object of sympathy.

The room was as silent as the grave.

A long time later, Yao Chen squeezed his voice out through gritted teeth.

"Who did you say it was? Say it again..."
