"This isn't good, not good at all"
Deus dashed through the back alley, followed by the fleeting footsteps behind him.
"Did I lose them" Deus quickly glanced behind him. From what he could make out two to three men where chasing him, but he expected more were following behind him.
These weren't your typical thugs, as instead of being armed with knifes or guns flames ignited in their hands.
They are what you call Esper in this world. As unlike traditional sense of weapon where artillery and nuclear weapons were the strongest weapon an person can wield. Innate supernatural abilities such as elemental abilities, enchane strength or speed took the crown.
Deus also happened to be an Esper. He glanced down at the wristband attached to his left hand and as he expected the number was still 0%.
"Dang it, Recover already"
Though that wasn't the case in his current situation, as with the application of his power offline he was basically ordinary human being chased down by two Elemental Esper. So with that in mind he concluded his only option was to run.
"Stop! Is running all you can do brat" one of the thugs behind him yelled
In response, Deus gave him the middle finger before shouting back at him. "You should be thankful for not beating the snot out of you monkeys."
The thug looked even more angry than he was before, as he launched a fireball near at his direction. Deus quickly shot through another alleyway, barley avoiding the blast him.
Time seemed to stop, as Deus eyes went to blue eyed man standing besides the alleyway. He was manifesting water before his eyes. Deus realized I had fallen right in their trap.
"You gotta be kidding me" Deus manage to reply before being bombarded with a wave of water.
He could hardly breathe at that moment and even when he tried nothing but water filled his lungs, as it felt like the water was overcoming him.
It was suffocating, but to his luck or terror the water disappear. As his body was launched against an apartment wall.
That's when Deus felt an overwhelming pain, as he coughed up blood. Slowly adjusted his eyes and he could make out an group of men standing before and in the center of the thugs was Frederick Cain. He stood amongst the other thugs with his muscular and large frame. He wore a biker jacket similar to all the other thugs. The only thing that separated him from the thugs was the scar of his left eye.
Who's the damn monkey now? Huh Deus" Frederick shouted, as his gang erupted in laughter following his statement.
Deus shot him the finger. Though this was probably a mistake on his part, as before he could even realize it Frederick had already grabbed him by the throat. He felt his consciousness fading, as it became even more difficult to breathe and keep my eyes open.
"...Wait, What did I do again?"
"You really have to ask," Frederick tightened his grip around my neck. You could tell by the malicious grin on his face he was enjoying every second.
"You think you can play me. I know you've been competing and betting on yourself in my area fights" Frederick shouted, as he shoved Deus to the ground.
"I don't know what you're talking about" Deus manage to mutter under his fading breath.
What he said was in fact true. Frederick and his gang ran an illegal underground fight arena for Espers. The rules were pretty simple: you fight until the other person is dead or unconscious. The people who bet on you will of course make a profit and the fighters themselves make good money, but of course there's rules.
Deus just happened to break one and as an result was their target.
"You got me, now can I go" Deus said, as he attempted to make a run. But before he could move another step scarlet flames ignited before him.
"You're not going anywhere. Well, not until you pay me back that money." Frederick yelled in a thunderous voice, as his man grabbed him.
Deus sighed, as his mind went to the matter at hand. "How much do you want?" Deus said.
Frederick smiled, pulling a small piece of paper and pen from his left pocket. He began to write. As he finished he came close towards Deus. As he slapped him with the sheet of paper, gesturing his men to let him go.
Picking up the sheet of paper off the ground. Deus looked dumbfounded at the big 50k marked on the paper.
"50 Grand!!! You gotta be joking right" Deus shouted, as he snatched the paper from my hand.
"It's only a small sum for the pain you caused me" Frederick replied, giving a tearful eyed look that made me look at him in disgust.
"Here, your stupid 50 grand dipshit" Deus said, as he handed him the 15k. This was probably his only chance to run, but as he turned an group of the thugs formed a wall around him.
Frederick continued to count the money, as he weaved through the stacks of cash. His expression soon turned unsatisfied as he stared back at Deus.
"Kill him," Frederick said in a stern tone.
Deus finally managed to break through the wall and began to run, but the fatigue had finally caught up with me. As one of the thugs from behind managed push him towards the ground and before he could move they crushed my legs.
The thugs continued to repeatedly stomp on him, as if to to torture him. If they wanted they could easily kill me at that moment, but they continued and continued.
Deus felt humiliated, but there was nothing he could do. His only hope was that his power would recover in time.
He looked at his glove once again.

"Just a bit more" He thought, but at that moment one of thugs stomped his head to the ground causing his forehead to bleed.
At that moment Deus was beginning to lose consciousness, as his vision became fuzzy and hid mind slowly drifted.
"Am I going to Die? " He thought, as his close his eyes.
Click! Deus could hear the sounds of freakish screams coming from around him. As he glanced at the ground before him he could make out blue flames surrounding me. For some reason they seemed familiar. At that moment he heard footsteps approach him.
"Looks like you can't stay out of trouble brat, but then again they don't call you the Worst Class Hero for nothing"
The voice sounded familiar, as Deus turned to look at the direction. Deus could make out a woman silhouette. At that moment he finally recognized the woman.
"Hey teach…it's been awhile, how's school treating you"
Scarlet Blaze, a frail skinned woman walked towards him.
"You should take better care of yourself. If it weren't for me those thugs would kill you"
Usually he would respond with some kind snarky reply, but at this moment his focus was on remaining conscious. However, it was no use as he slowly drifted to sleep.
