"Sergeant?" Vel peeked through the tent where Franzen usually stayed. However, things were different since Franzen wasn't even there in the first place. There was his desk, with a large map on top of it alongside a black-hair cat denizen observing it, alongside a bunch of crates alongside a makeshift bed made from hay covered in fabric.
The cat woman noticed Vel, "Sergeant Franzen isn't here, he is outside, testing out a new weapon system." The cat woman continued drawing on the map with her pen. Oftentimes, while scratching the ears on top of her head.
"Thanks, Polar, what're you doing, anyway?" Vel asked Polar.
"What am I doing?" Polar commented. She put her pen back on the table. She put her hand on and asked Vel to come closer. He pointed to several new squares on the map. "I'm just returning from reconnaissance." Her face was painted in black and green camouflage scattered across her entire face. "Anyway. this is the human staging point for these forts."
On the map, six boxes were scattered with multiple writing on the side of them. Some of the boxes had an X on top of it. "What does it mean when you mark a fortress with an X?" Vel asked, wanting to know that.
"It means that the fort is not in the range of our 120 mm mortar, you know, the big weapon the ogre is trained to use. However, striking the human's fort now would be unwise, since even if we capture them, we wouldn't have enough manpower to retain control," Polar added.
18 people wouldn't be enough to guard seven forts at once, they needed more than that. However, at the moment, defending this makeshift fort would be quite an impossible feat if not for the modern weapons that they acquired from the dragon guardian.
Still, Vel liked his chance against the human now. "How many people are we going to face?" Vel asked.
"4,000 at the initial offensive alone, and perhaps 80,000 people around these six forts."
"Yikes," Vel gritted his teeth. He only carried 210 rounds of ammunition, not more. To add salt to the wound, there would be a chance that he would have to fight other goblins and denizens that got forced into fighting with the humans. This would be bad… He couldn't imagine the humanitarian problem.
"Yikes indeed, Vel. Anyway, since you're here, sarge asked me to give you this," Polar picked up something from the bottom of the table and put it on top of the table. 32 Cartridge 40 MM HEDP. So, 40 mm grenade rounds.
"Damn, this is heavy," Vel picked up the can slowly with both of his hands from the table, making sure the sharp corner didn't tear the map apart. He then picked it up using the handle with only one hand. "Where is sarge?"
"In the trench," Polar said.
"Trench? Alright."
Polar returned to her duty and Vel went outside of the tent. The other goblins were in their tents, cleaning their weapons and putting their ballistic vest next to their rucksacks. Vel strolled down the patch of grass in the fort and eventually led out to the gate of the fort, which was open.
In the trench, the pale tactical demon with red eyes was messing around with the new unique type of weapon, or should we say grenade machine gun? Vel jumped down into the trench to see what his master was installing.
"Sir, good afternoon," Vel greeted Franzen with the 40mm grenades in his hand.
"Ah, Vel, good afternoon," Franzen put the 40mm grenades on the ammo can tray on the side of the grenade machine gun. He opened the dust cover of the grenade machine gun, put the grenades inside of it, then closed the cover again. He pulled the two handles on the side of the grenade machine gun backward.
Vel looked at it, the gun was big, and the barrel was several times larger than his rifle, the recoil from the gun must have been immense. "Sir, what's this? What does it do?" Vel asked. He knew grenades could kill a lot of people, but it was the first time he saw grenades in tubular forms.
"This is an MK-19 Grenade Machine Gun, perfect to disable a human wave," Franzen knocked on the grenade machine gun multiple times. "It fired grenades at an immense rate that it would be raining hell on the other side of this gun."
"Wow, sir, that's amazing!" Vel looked at the GMG in awe. He put his hand on it. The cold steel touching his gloves was out of the ordinary, never did he touch a weapon this powerful, much less handled it. If the M4A1 had low recoil, what this thing would have?

"Indeed, and this would be the goblins' ace against the incoming human wave," Franzen said as he knocked on the machine gun again. "Now, watch this!" Franzen put his hand on the handle on the back of the grenade machine gun, and he pressed the butterfly trigger on the back of it.
CHUG. BOOM!
A small explosion appeared from afar. It was an HEDP round, designed for anti-armor, not personnel, but even the HEDP round was able to explode like that? What kind of power did he mess with? The dragon guardian continued to amaze him with the weapons and all of his gadgets.
"What the hell is that, sir?" Vel shouted as he looked at the explosion.
"It's a 40mm high-explosive dual-purpose grenade lobbed over 200 meters to deal with a bunch of targets, however, it's mainly used for an armored enemy, however, you can also use it for a regular enemy, so that's two birds with one stone," Franzen added.
"That's nice to know, sir," Vel said.
"Well, you have to be proficient in using this thing, everyone should be, since this is one our aces, besides the mortar, of course," Franzen explained. "Anyway, want to try shooting it?" Franzen asked.
"Sure, sir."
Franzen and Vel switched positions. Vel put his hand on the butterfly trigger of the grenade machine gun and pressed it. Three grenades flew out of the big barrel of the grenade machine gun.
CHUG CHUG CHUG. BOOM BOOM BOOM.
The three grenade rounds exploded, sending fragments all over the road in front of them. One grenade managed to break a bunch of branches, making them fall to the ground. Vel put his thumbs on the trigger and pushed it again.
The grenade machine gun chugged the grenades from the ammo cans and threw them into the road in front. Vel put the grenade machine gun until all of the grenades ran out. He stopped firing, and suddenly, an ogre approached both of us while carrying two crates.
"Ah, Valgarr, the ammo, right?" Franzen commented.
"Yes, sir. The ammo for the grenade machine gun. One crate contains 128 grenades. I brought two of them," Varlgarr answered.
"Good job, thanks for the help, Varl," Franzen replied as the ogre put the two heavy crates on the ground. Varlgarr then left the trench and entered the fortress. Then, come Argarr alongside another orc, this time, the orc carried two crates of .50 BMG bullets.
Argarr placed the M2 .50 cal that he carried on the trench while the ogre put the crates filled with .50 BMG bullets on the ground. Arkarr picked up one of the ammo crates and put it right next to the heavy machine gun. He pulled the charging handle, then fired one bullet. BANG.
"Alright, the weapon's good!" Arkarr shouted.
Arkarr and the other ogres returned back into the fortress, replaced by two denizens. One was a wolf denizen while the other was a fox denizen. They stood right behind the heavy machine gun while the fox denizen looked at the surrounding area with his binoculars.
Vel got out of the trench and walked back into the fort. He still hadn't had his lunch, and now his stomach punished him for it. He lined up in the field kitchen while waiting for his food to finally come.
