A bunch of brass bullet cartridges was scattered on the ground, alongside two cans of 1,000 rounds of 5.56 ammunition. The goblins were having fun in the range while shooting their rifles from multiple positions, whether it was in prone, standing, or in a crouch.

"You guys are not half bad, I heard the ogres are worse than you guys," Lyka commented as she looked at one of the targets with multiple holes in the center. "The accuracy from your shot is better than some denizens, in fact."

Goblins were users of crossbows, they were already used to aim at a target like using the M4A1, but never was this accurate. Vel still couldn't believe his eyes when he could score a bullseye on the target as far as 300 meters away from him. A crossbow relied on a barrage of bolts, not accurate fire.

Still, against humans, goblins didn't have the upper hand due to their smaller bodies. With this rifle, it would all definitely change and goblins wouldn't be seen as cannon fodder anymore, but instead, as a legitimate threat to humans. Vel couldn't help but think about the potential of this weapon.

"Vel, you manage to hit 55 out of 60 targets, not bad, in fact, only beaten by a cat woman among the denizens," Lyka commented. "She'll be our perfect sniper, no doubt about it," Lyka said. "Still, in a firefight, suppressing fire would be the best solution."

"Corporal, ma'am, what kind of weapon is this? We can shoot it upside down, prone, or even with one hand," Jaran asked Lyka.

"This is a rifle, it has more than enough firepower to help beat a whole attack from the human army. We should manage to inflict heavy damage on them," Lyka commented. "Alright, continue shooting! Now, from a standing position, go!" Lyka shouted.

Every goblin stood up from the ground, reloaded their magazine with a new one, and put the used magazine on the dumping bag on their hips. "Elevation Magic: Manipulation!" Suddenly, a human-sized target appeared in front of them and started moving left and right erratically.

"Your target will be moving, so try to shoot it without missing too much, got it?" Lyka asked.

Vel took aim, and he swung his rifle to follow the erratic movement. He pulled the trigger twice, but only one bullet hit it, and it was missing from its center mass. The other goblins also barraged their bullets at the moving target, with a lot of it ending up missing.

Vel switched his gun to full auto, and he fired in a burst. Three bullets flew at once in one pull, and they hit the target. The solution was correct, full-auto solved the fire-rate problem with the erratic moving scarecrow. Vel fired in bursts, and eventually, he ran out of bullets.

"Changing mag!" Vel shouted. He let the magazine out of the rifle, pulled another new magazine from his ballistic vest, and put it inside the rifle. He pressed the bolt-release button and continued shooting.

"I'm dry, changing mag!" Jaran shouted.

Burst fire spent more bullets than single fire, that was for sure. Eventually, everyone ran out of bullets from their magazines. Lyka put the white scarecrow on the ground, and then inspected it. She checked the number of holes in the center mass. "Good, not bad, there should be at least 80 bullets to this center mass, with the rest going all over the target in other places. If your bullet hits, it'd disable the target."

Vel was still disappointed in himself that he couldn't shoot more accurately. Jaran patted him on the back, "No sweat, bro. We'll get better over time," he said as he refilled his magazine using the ammunition inside of the ammunition can.

"I don't expect you to be perfect on the first try either, so be grateful," Lyka said.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Still, not bad, I expect anyone to perform poorly in this test, but you goblins are made different, aren't you?" Lyka commented. She then put her hand on her chin, "Probably because Franzen told you to use a crossbow, huh?"

"I think so, ma'am," Vel said.

"No wonder why he hadn't given you rifle training yet, he believed that little training would be enough for you all. Goblins only need to familiarize themselves with the new weapons while ogres and denizens are not used to handling crossbow or bow, so it is literally from the ground-up, especially the ogres," Lyka commented.

"Hahahaha," Vel smiled.

"Continue your shooting, this time, try to hit the static target on the far end of the range, got it?" Lyka added.

"Got it, ma'am!"

"Aim, fire!" Lyka shouted.

The goblins shot their rifles at the target in front of them. A bunch of bullets flew in the direction of the targets. The goblins grinned and smiled every single time they fired their weapons. It was just surreal that a mere goblin would be able to use this kind of weapon.

After shooting with their M4A1, everyone headed back to the fortress for the afternoon meal. On the way, Lyka and Vel walked side-by-side while the other goblins followed them from behind. Vel felt pretty good after shooting his rifle.

"How are the denizens?" Vel asked.

"The denizens are fine, they're multipurpose, unlike the goblins or ogres," Lyka said.

"Why?" Vel wondered where it came from.

"The ogres are big brutes with big powers, incapable of doing delicate works, but one of the most useful logistic personnel this army could have," Lyka commented on the ogres. It was true. The shortest ogre was around 8 feet tall to 10 feet tall. So, yeah, they were big creatures. "Goblins are small and delicate, but in high-mobile combat scenarios, goblins would always come out on top."

"Hmm, what are you saying?" Vel asked.

"I'm saying, everyone has their own role," Lyka said.

"Oh, in that, I agree with you. Anyway, what's the menu for tomorrow's training?" Vel asked.

"Grenade training, you'll have to learn about that too, especially since you'll be the first line resistance against an attack," Lyka said.

Eventually, they arrived at the fortress. All in all, today was quite a good day for Vel. However, when they entered the fort, Arkarr was looking at the campfire while sighing alongside the other ogres. Vel wondered what was the matter with them.

Vel approached the ogres, followed by Jaran from behind. Arkarr immediately greeted them, "Ah, the little green men have returned, what does this big ogre can do for you?" Arkarr smiled, showing his small fang protruding from his mouth.

"Nah, just wondering what's the matter with you, your sigh can be heard from the whole fort," Vel replied to the ogre in the OCP military uniform. Vel sat down right next to the ogre, and he grabbed a leftover cracker package that he brought from the pantry in the field kitchen. He opened the package and put one inside his mouth.

Arkarr put his hand on his head, scratching it, "Well, my men are interested in doing some heavy work, but Sergeant Franzen simply didn't let us do it, since it might compromise the safety of our whole fort."

Vel put his ear closer, "What kind of works?"

"You know, lifting wooden logs, throwing logs, that kind of thing," Arkarr said as he sipped on a cup of coffee from his metal cup. Ogres weren't violent, but they were still dangerous. Strength was their pride, their symbol. Logs were their medals. They loved logs.

Vel munched another cracker as he listened. Ogre's weight lifting might break something in the fort, and letting them do it outside would indeed compromise the safety by exposing locations, or allowing the human to kill the last four ogres in the camp. "Yeah, I know, but well, it's for the better, am I right?"

Arkarr sighed, his sigh was like a bull, very loud and very windy, "Yeah, I know. Truth be told, we missed the other ogres. Especially after Khanzar betrayed our lord and disappeared in Denuvo," Arkarr said.

Denuvo. Khanzar was an ogre, one of the trusty generals, in fact. However, it still remained to be a wild rumor why Khanzar and some ogres and denizens betrayed Franzen. The ogres were unsure, and Franzen had no idea. Some of the loyalists stayed with Franzen and Arkarr, but many disappeared or straight joined Khanzar in his betrayal.

"Still, Arkarr, you have us, right? We're family," Vel smiled.

"Hahahaha, right. I shouldn't be too sad, eh? Anyway, sarge is looking for you."

"Me only?" Vel asked.

Arkarr only nodded.
