"Hey, how was yesterday?" Lyka asked Vel as both of them sat down on the grassy ground while sipping on a hot cup of tea from his metallic cup. Arkarr was also there, while Franzen was inside one of the tents, planning defense in case of a human attack.

"Well, quite interesting, but I haven't shot my rifle yet," Vel commented. "He called me private yesterday, so there's a change instead of the usual Vel," he continued on sipping on his tea. Jaran and the others were sleeping in the tent after the exhausting day. "How about you, Arkarr?" Vel asked.

"The ogres are quick to learn, same as the others, to be honest. I am quite surprised, usually, they aren't quick learners," Arkarr said. Training the ogres wasn't an easy thing, practically because they were more muscles than brains. However, Arkarr had his own ways to teach the ogres.

The curse of modern weapons wasn't as strong as when they were in the dragon's lair, but of course, not everyone was even aware of the curse coming from modern weapons themselves. Somehow, the ogres became much less warmongering, and the goblins became less willing to be thrown into the meat grinder.

"What is the assignment from sergeant?" Vel referred to Franzen, asking Lyka.

"Training you all on these new weapons. The dragon lair has much more weapons, but we brought what can be brought from there," Lyka answered. The trucks contained enough equipment to equip the 15 people in that wooden fortress, although carrying more equipment would prove to be advantageous in the future. "However, it seems goblins are going to be our main spear."

"Main spear as in becoming a cannon fodder again?" Vel asked as he put both of his green hands near the fire.

"You know, we value lives, including goblins, you won't be left behind, I promise you that," Lyka said.

"The ogres are going to be pissed knowing that they are going to be a truck driver," Arkarr sighed, letting out hot air from the two small fangs protruding from the bottom of his mouth. "Franzen said our large body would prove to be useful in that role."

"Truck? What's a truck?" Vel asked, not knowing the term used by Arkarr.

"The big vehicle with a tarp on it? You know, that thing," Arkarr pointed his large hand at the large carriage in the middle of the makeshift fortress. So, it was called a truck, eh? Vel thought. That thing could be the largest carriage Vel had ever seen in his life. He wondered how many horses would be needed to pull it.

"That carriage is called a truck? That's good to know," Vel looked at the large truck. His height was not even half of the truck's height. Its length was comparable to a small building, and certainly, it roared like a wild animal.

"To be precise, an OshKosh MK23 Standard Cargo Truck, powered with 425 horsepower," Arkarr commented.

Vel looked around the truck. There wasn't any horse on the truck, much less 425 horses at the same place. "Where are the horses?" Vel asked, like a small child asking because he didn't know a single thing about it. He only thought that there were literally 425 horses on that truck.

"No, there are no horses, only engines. It's like having 425 horses pulling the truck," Arkarr said as he chewed on the meat that he grilled on top of the fireplace. "Hmm, missing a little bit of salt here," Arkarr commented as he added salt from a wooden container.

"Woah, how much grass that thing eats?" Vel asked.

"That thing uses diesel or magical elixirs," Arkarr said.

"Diesel? What's diesel?" Vel asked.

"Some kind of yellow flammable liquid that we use in our trucks. Magical elixirs are better, though," Arkarr said.

Magical elixir was practically water imbued with mana that would turn blue. However, diesel was something else that Vel had never heard of. Still, he knew that this would solve the logistics of this war, especially since horses could only pull so much before needing a rest.

"Anyway, what did sergeant teach you?" Lyka asked.

"Our lord? Just basic weapon operation, to be honest, without shooting it at all," Vel sighed.

"You'll get through it, Vel. After all, you're the leader of the remainder of the goblin army," Lyka said.

"Yeah," Vel sighed. "How are the denizens doing?" Vel asked about the denizens, aka the human with animal ears. "Are they used to the new thing?" Vel asked.

"They're quick to learn. At least, they don't aim the end of their rifles at my face."

Vel just laughed, the goblins weren't that stupid to aim the tip of the M4 at Franzen's head. They were an avid user of crossbows, so not aiming their weapon at their boss was their nature. To add more, denizens varied in their weapon of choice than goblins while ogres were exclusive to melee weapons.

"Hahaha, I see," Vel nodded.

Then, from the main tent, Franzen came out with a paper in his hand alongside a face filled with a large grin, as if he just discovered new things to use. Franzen sat down on the grass, right next to the fireplace.

"Sergeant." Lyka nodded.

"Sir," Vel looked at Franzen.

"Good evening, everyone. Let's move to the reinforcement of this fortress, shall we?" Franzen put his paper in the view of everyone's eye, revealing a box with several X marks on it alongside text filled with descriptions.

"Sir, what's that?" Lyka asked.

"This is our defense plan in case of human attacks us. It'd be our last stand, but you must understand, that evacuation will be an option," Franzen said as he explained the few X marks on the paper that he created.

"Vel, you'd guard the north with the rest of the goblins. These X's are the heavy weapon placements," Franzen put his finger on one of the X's on the trench surrounding the whole fort. "You'll be guarding against a frontal attack."

"Understood," Vel said. "So, five of us against the army of a human wave?"

"Well, not really, according to my calculations, it'd take three weeks at the very least for the human to launch an offensive to our makeshift fort. In the meantime, we must prepare for defense, including training you all on how to use the new weapons in combination with magic," Franzen said.

"I see, well, how about us?" Arkarr asked.

"You four would be manning the 120mm mortar," Franzen said.

"Sir, the ogres are not trained to handle the mortar yet," Arkarr said.

"Then train them, our goal is to halt the frontal offensive from becoming a major threat," Franzen added. "Corporal, you need to be able to do this, or else, Vel and his goblins would get decimated."

"Copy that, sir," Arkarr added.

"How about the denizens?" Lyka asked.

"You need to guard the flank while helping to coordinate the mortar attacks with Arkarr's team," Franzen added. "Basically, the denizens would be our forward observers. Anything that you want to ask, Lyka?"

"No, sir, no. I'll see what I can do. I'll probably need to turn the whole squad into grenadiers and machine gunners," Lyka added. "We'll need to use the radio to communicate. Still, I still wonder how many humans would attack us."

"Excellent, I like the initiative," Franzen gave his thumb. "Any question?"

"Yes, sir, when will the goblins be trained to use their weapons?" Vel asked, protesting that his squad was the only one that hadn't fired the M4A1 that they kept carrying but never provided the bullets to shoot.

"Tomorrow, definitely tomorrow, so, I hope your goblins don't forget what I taught for four days straight," Franzen smiled, and put his hand on Vel's shoulder. "I put a lot of faith in you, Vel."

"We'll not disappoint, sir," Vel nodded.

"Anyway, in case we don't succeed in defending this place, we'll escape using the trucks. We'll get out via the south gate," Franzen added.

"Sounds simple, at least, with coordination, it should be possible," Vel said.

"Well, that's the last thing I want to happen," Franzen said. "We'll be training for this situation often, so be prepared." Franzen stood up from the grass and walked back into his tent. Vel smiled and grinned, he finally could get a taste of the weapon that he kept holding on.
