For the first time in a long time Sasha woke up feeling somewhat well rested. The nightmare had returned last night and she was still scared, but she did not wake up this time. She stayed in the dream longer than she ever had before and though frightening there was some strange comfort in knowing where the nightmare ended. "Maybe things are turning around." Sasha thought to herself.

Sasha sat up out of bed and turned to the alarm clock to check the time, to her shock she sat up with no struggle at all. The pains, the body aches, they were gone. The cramps in her lower abdomen had not fully subsided, in fact it was hard for her to tell but they may have gotten worse, but her bones, the splintering, stabbing pain all through her had disappeared completely. And today was the day David was returning from his trip, Sasha was still freaked and her mind distracted, but there seemed to be some hope now.

Sasha spent the morning getting herself ready to see David, she tried her best to make herself look somewhat presentable, she hadn't been able to take good care of herself this past week and didn't want to show how badly she was doing. The dress from her night out remained the only clothing she had with her, it wrecked of booze and was a little stained, but Sasha had no other choice.

As she made her way out of the room to check out, Sasha lingered for a moment. She walked right up to the window, pressing her hands against it and gazing out towards the hills.

Outside the hotel Sasha hailed a taxi and made her way to David's house. As the cab moved between the streets Sasha found herself continually looking up at the hills around Arbor that loomed large over the city. Pulling up out front of the house, Sasha saw David come rushing out as she paid the driver her fare.

"Where have you been?" David asked with a slight panicked tone, "You haven't answered my calls or responded to my messages for days, I thought something happened."

A slight pained smile came across Sasha's face as tears began to well up in her eyes, David rushed to her, embracing her tightly in his arms.

"It's okay." Said David, "Whatever it is it's okay, we can fix it."

"I feel like I'm going crazy." Said Sasha, her head pressed against David's chest, "I don't want you to think I'm crazy."

"I won't." David assured her, "Promise."

Sasha let out a small chuckle amongst her tears, "I really hope you won't."

Sasha took a few slow deep breathes before continuing, angling her head away from David's face, she was too embarrassed to look him in the eyes as she spoke. "It's the spiders..." She said, with some hesitation in her voice, "It's worse than what I told you... It got worse than what I told you... One of them bite me and then I started getting these weird pains and then I started having these nightmares, these really real feeling nightmares, and I can't sleep, and more spiders showed up, like dozens and dozens and I got cramps and I ran away and forgot my phone and..."

Sasha could feel herself losing breath and starting to hyperventilate, she tried to take more deep breathes but she could not get the air in. David pulled back from his embrace and gripped her arms tight, "Relax babe." He said, a calm reassured smile on his face, "Relax. Deep breathes. I'm not going anywhere, you've got plenty of time to explain, you don't even need to explain if you don't want to."

The tears were well and truly rushing now and Sasha collapsed back into David's arms.

"I think you need to get away from that dorm." He said, "I don't care what my housemates say you can stay her alright. A bit of time away from that place and you'll be back to your old self, you just need to be somewhere where you're not reminded of those things all the time."

"Thank you." Sasha whimpered between tears, "I love you."

"I..." David stuttered, "I love you too... Let's get inside, I'll make us some lunch, you look like you could use something to eat."

"Okay." Sasha smiled.

The day passed peacefully, and Sasha began to forget about her troubles. The couple spent the day in David's bed watching a nostalgic selection of movies, David made Sasha lunch and dinner, going so far as to make her favourite turkey burgers for dinner, it put a smile of Sasha's face, even though she had little appetite and struggled to eat much of it. The cramps in Sasha's lower abdomen remained, but most of the other pain had subsided come night time, still David hoped online, and the pair booked a doctor's appointment for the following day just to make sure everything was okay. As the couple shut off the lights and prepared for bed that evening, Sasha was so happy with the improvements to her mental and physical health that she fell asleep in David's arms almost as quickly as her head hit the pillow.

This night her peace was not broken by the persistent nightmares that had plagued her for the past days and nights, but by the intense stabbing abdominal pain she continued to feel, just after midnight she was woken by these pains. For a moment she felt as though she might throw up and so rushed from the bed to the bathroom. Falling to her knees over the toilet bowl she wretched and wretched but nothing came up, after a few minutes she gave up and went to the sink to splash some water on her face. The cool tap water trickled down her face as she gazed into the mirror to find her eyes a sickly pus yellow, her mouth fell open, but no noise came out. Her eyes grew more and more sickly as her abdominal pains intensified, the pain grew and grew to the point that Sasha feared her body might not be able to handle it and she would pass out. Stumbling backwards looking for somewhere to sit down she began feeling a burning sensation running up her back, an overwhelming amount of pressure was building up the length of her spine when suddenly it burst forth. Her skin ripped and tore down the line of her spin, separating on both sides, her agonizing screams echoed throughout the bathroom as she caught a glimpse of a large bulbous black hump emerging from her back, rising out and above her head. The black hump was covered in a layer of thin fur, forcing herself to look closer in the mirror she recognized what it was, it was a giant spider's abdomen.

Sasha went to scream for help but the bones in her face begun to crack and break, reforming themselves into a horrific creation. The blood vessels under her skin bulged and continued to raise up to the surface of her face until the burst, blood pooled beneath her skin changing the very colour of her complexion.

Large black arachnid legs begun puncturing her flesh, ripping it to shreds. Two shot through her rib cage and another two through where her knees used to be, another four emerged from out behind her back, leaving behind nothing but a lose sack of disposed bloody skin hanging from her throat. The skin began to crumble and wither from her neckline and melt from her person and fall to the bathroom floor, only her contorted, mutated face remained, but now it sat atop an enlarged spiders frame.

Her freshly acquired eight limbs began thumping about the cramped bathroom as they tried to gain a solid footing. Staring at herself in the mirror Sasha was scared beyond imagining, as her appearance now resembled that of the hanging spiders from the nightmares that had tormented her so severely over the past week. She was now one of them, there was no mistaking it.

Her fixation on her new form was soon interrupted by banging on the bathroom door and calls from behind the wood from David, "Sasha!" He called, "What was that noise? Is everything alright?"

Sasha did not know what to do, the calls from behind the door continued and she had no response. Suddenly the wood surrounding the lock burst into a hail of splinters and the door flung open and David stood before her, foot raised slightly in the air.

Gazing into his eyes Sasha saw a look of pure terror come across her boyfriend's face, the color drained right out of him, he was as pale as a piece of copy paper. She tried to speak to him, but when her mouth opened screams of a harsh indistinguishable language were all that came out, they pierced the ear drums and only sort to bring about more fear on the face of the man before her. She wanted to cry, but no tears came, she wasn't even sure if she could cry anymore.

That's when it happened. Suddenly and without her permission she felt her eight legs begin to move, they scraped against the walls, the sink, the bathtub. They slipped about the room struggling for grip, but they edged her forwards, they edged her towards David. She continued to screech, trying to communicate with him, but it was no use. Seemingly paralyzed by fear David seemed unable to move until she was right upon him. Her body was out of her control, she tried to stop herself, but instinctually her jaw opened and came down upon David.

Her fangs sunk deep into his flesh and her jaw locked his body in place. She could feel him struggling, fighting against her. His screams echoed out of her mouth and throughout the bathroom, each time a fang stabbed into his body a gargled plea of mercy would ring out from inside her mouth.

Sasha wanted to release him, the metallic taste of his blood ran down the back of her mouth and it made her sick, she wanted this to end but no matter how hard she tried she could not stop herself. Her mind was still hers, but she feared the body she inhabited no longer was.

David fought and resisted for what felt like an eternity, but soon his body went limp in her clasp and she began devouring the flesh of the man she had only a few hours early told she loved. Hunger satisfied she felt an unnatural distant presence calling to her, there was no rational way for her to know where the call was coming from but somehow, she knew it was coming from the hills outside of the city. Her body moved forward, manoeuvring through the partially opened bathroom door and out into the hallway of the house.

As she emerged the hallway light came on, turning Sasha saw David's housemates all standing at the end of the hall, the same look of shock and terror plastered across each of their faces. Sasha let out a thunderous screech causing them all to flee, but she did not pursue them, her body was focused on answering the distant unexplainable call. Crawling back through David's bedroom and across his bed Sasha threw two of her front legs into his window causing it to shatter, she squeezed through the hole and out onto the front lawn.

She continued down through the quiet suburban streets, becoming more and more comfortable with her new limbs with each step she took. Though she tried to resist the siren's call coming from the distant hills she simply could not help but wander towards them. Her mind remained her own, but her body was not hers anymore, at least not fully hers to control. As she stalked through the night in a trance, getting closer and closer to the hills with each step, Sasha could not help but wonder what awaited her when she arrived.
