But the one thing that stood out the most was the two panels in front of me.
I didn't know how to feel about them as I was still confused at what had just happened with what I thought was the dungeon's boss.
Maybe it was god?
[Evolution Available]
[Please select your dėsɨrėd evolution]
It seems this place had changed a bit as I didn't see the desk from before, nor did I see the ancient writing which I was hoping to read.
I was able to think despite having no physical form, which shocked me quite a bit.
Maybe I have turned into an ethereal monster? Maybe a ghost? Or specter?
I thought for quite a while before deeming it useless as I had no idea how this system works, why it was created, and specifically, why it chose me first.
When you go off the woman's words from before, you'd know that the system is not only unique to me, but can be obtained by others.
Okay, let's stop thinking about this and just proceed with my evolution.
[Desire evolutions have been displayed]
Four options displayed themselves to me, and as I was experienced with mentally clicking things, I mentally clicked the first option presented to me.
[Ancient Snake (First Rank)]
[Required Skill for Evolution: Any Variant or Level of Quetzalcoatl's Fire]
[This is the full version of your current evolution. You are granted a set of full wings and heightened senses. Your overall stats increase by a large margin, blowing you way past the stats of an average human.]
This seems pretty good but a bit basic.
Actually, the "first rank" thing seems special, but I have no idea what it does…
When I glanced at the picture displayed to me, I noticed it was my body, and I was completely nȧkėd.
A pair of two large light green wings had sprouted from my back, and they looked very fluffy, almost like they were made from hair instead of feathers.
My pupils had slimmed completely, causing me to look as if I had just ripped the eyes out of a reptile and placed them in my own eye sockets.
It was right above my buŧŧ, and it was the end of a snake, but an entire snake.
Like the end of the snake was connected to above my buŧŧ, and the snake's head was just waving around in the air.
I shivered at the thought of trying to hide that in my pants or tuck it up to my sweatshirt.
Yeah… No, thank you.
I swiped the option to the side, causing the next in line to fill in its place.
[Bloodthirsty Worshipper]
[Required Skill for Evolution: Any Variant or Level of Bloodthirsty Rage-
[Variant has been unlocked]
.
[Required Skills for Evolution: Ancient Sacrifice and Any Variant or Level of Bloodthirsty Rage]
[Your sprouting wings have withered into just bone, but you keep the skeleton on your back in hopes of them growing back. You have an insatiable ŀust for blood and human flesh, but in exchange for this, your stats grow exponentially. You can also lead your own pack of bloodthirsty worshippers who follow you and your god.]
Oh, a variant of this evolution? That's pretty interesting…
Now, is this good or not.
The picture displayed was, of course, me, with absolutely no clothes.
Just like the description said, my wings had withered into just bone. No feathers were in sight, but I honestly thought these looked cooler as the bones looked like fully grown wings… just with no feathers… and I probably can't fly as well.
I should probably go off practicality, not how cool it looks…
The insatiable ŀust for blood and human flesh is a bit disturbing, and I honestly don't think I can take care of it by suppressing my emotions.
Plus, it's insatiable, so even if I could suppress it by suppressing my emotions, I would have to have my emotions turned off pretty much all the time besides in dungeons… but even then… the ŀust for human flesh…
[Scaly Grim Reaper (Fourth)]
[Required Skills for Evolution: Any Five Skills Related to Death]
[Required Path for Evolution: Death]
[This Evolution Requires a Sacrifice]
[You have somehow unlocked an evolution that should've been impossible for you to obtain. But you have only managed to unlock a fourth of its power. Your power will drop below what you currently have, but your potential will be limitless in the future. With this evolution, you also become closer to death, but do not be fooled by the countless spirits floating through your world… Otherwise, you will face a fate worse than death.]
First of all, I need to sacrifice something, and that something could be anything, honestly, as I have no idea what to expect from the system.
I might gain new skills related to death… which is good or bad depending on how much it increases the presence of death in me.
Mom did warn me that there is a presence of death within me like the Death Dungeon Runner who she and her allies had to kill… and that's probably due to me unlocking that path.
You can easily connect the dots and notice that these were also related to my skills… except for the morning and evening stars which I might see in the future.
But, never mind that, what I want to focus on is the death part.
I didn't really study more on the death part, but it's safe to ȧssume it is similar to the Death Power Stone User.
Hmmmm… This is an excellent option… Good skills, hopefully… Limitless growth potential… but I can also communicate with the spirits floating through the world.
I'm pretty sure I saw Mother ascend to heaven, so I doubt I'll be able to see her in the real world… ummmm…
But the one turn-off was the picture displayed to me.
It definitely lowered my attraction to this skill as I became much less humanoid.
My spine had been smooshed onto my back, and my wings turned into large skeleton wings. My face was deathly pale, and it looked as if I was about to fall apart at any second.
My entire body looked weak, so I could only ȧssume this evolution was meant for using magic and reviving things to fight for me.
Hmmmmm… Okay, let's just move on to the last one.
[Frozen Snake Princess]
[Required Skills for Evolution: Any Skill Related to Ice]
[This Evolution Requires a Sacrifice]
[You stats increase exponentially. Your control over ice is impossibly strong. Your wings have withered to the bone, but replacing your lush green feathers are now sturdy, rock hard, frozen feathers. You also have full authority over any monster weaker than you that is related to ice.]
Hmmmmm… Another evolution that requires a sacrifice… Dammit.
I also lost most of my ice-related skills… not that I had many in the first place, but… okay, let's take a look at the picture- oh my.
I couldn't help but gawk at the picture.
I looked exactly the same, but the piercing light blue eyes with slimmed pupils, permanently painted light-blue nails, a paler yet more beautiful shade of my skin, sparkling wings made from icy feathers… I looked absolutely stunning.
But, I wanted to go for practicality… so sadly, I had to drop this as it didn't seem like it would give me much of an advantage.
I only had one skill related to ice, and maybe this evolution would give me more skills… but it just didn't seem like it was worth the risk.
I gave up trying to put up a front a few minutes ago and decided I would reveal my true self and power to the world.
If I wanted to keep the same image of using only ice powers to fake having an ice-related power stone, then I would absolutely pick this… but not anymore.
Okay… Let's think this over carefully.
System, if you understand me, can you tell me what all these strange things are? Like "first rank," or maybe be more specific with the sacrifice part.
[Revealing Definitions of Requested Parts]
…
A few hours passed, and I had finally come to a decision.
It took such a long time because different parts of me kept fighting against each other.
All the evolutions had their downsides and upsides… but eventually, I came to a conclusion with an evolution that I had already laid my eyes on.
[You have selected Ancient Snake (First Rank)]
[Would you like to confirm the evolution?]
Yes…
