Chapter 25: The escape I dreamt of

Rae's POV 

The fresh forest air was one of the many things I had missed from the outside world. Feeling the soft cool breeze gently blow on my skin brought feelings beyond nostalgia. Hearing the soothing chirping of birds was something, well it isn't as soothing as I claim it to be but it is quite refreshing. I didn't know how much I longed for these little things. Truly you never know what you will miss until it's gone. 

Right now I don't know how but am right in front of the labyrinth gates. I am standing there just appreciating being back to my young vampiric body. Oh how missed this side of my skin.

Looking around not that much has changed, well maybe it has it is just that I haven't had a chance to see it. Now first of to make my way back to Carmine village. I seem to be encompassed and situated in the middle of a forest because all I see are trees all around but now that I have my vampiric speed back my movement from one place to another might not be that hindered.

I will try to move towards the direction where I feel movement most, from there on I will get a sense of direction towards where Carmine is.

...I feel a sinister aura lurking around. It has such violent intent too. It must be a monster. A little powerful too but nothing that I can't handle. I will use my mana search to pinpoint where exactly it is, then from there on dispose of it as I head to the next town.

Using my mana search I can't seem to pinpoint it accurately. But I can get a sense of its direction. Now all I have to do is...

What was that roar? It was so powerful almost sounded like...

Looking up at the sky I couldn't help but flinch after seeing it. It was a dragon and not just any other dragon it was a...

A wyvern? I thought I heard the roar of a dragon. The shadow too looked to be that of a dragon. Was I mistaken?...

There it is again, I definitely heard the roar of a dragon this time... I know wyverns are relatively close to dragons but when pitted against true dragons their powers pale in comparison.

"If it is just a wyvern I will be sure to make quick work of it."

First I will activate my flight magic as I no longer have wings and then from there on we can have an aerial battle which I assume would end quite quickly.

From its movement it looks like it is coming close for a snap attack, quite daring, maybe that would have worked for other prey but unfortunately for it, its movements are quite slow as compared to mine. 

I mean right now I feel like it is going so slow that I can go around it about five times before it even has a chance of doing anything. This is not boasting it is just the actual truth, I mean its movements are so slow that it's like it's moving in slow motion... I am glad to have my vampire speed back, it is one of the things I missed most about this body. I conveniently have my twin daggers so I think I am good and can easily win this fight but just to be fair to it I will try to fight it without using my vampire speed to actually see how much of a good fight it can give.

... Its first attack was a snap just like how I predicted. I was able to dodge that easily. It's continuously trying to strike with its mouth and is clearly failing can't it see...

I see now, it was trying to distract me with its mouth while its diamond-tipped tail goes for the kill. It looks quite poisonous too. So it is not as unintelligent as I previously thought it to be. Unfortunately for it, I was able to see that attack from a mile away even without my vampire speed...

That tail is doing something interesting. It is doing a chaotic dance looking for an opportunity to attack just like how a snake would. That is quite cute but unfortunately for it, I am quite agile. 

First, to cut off that annoying tail, it is quite hard but with enough strength, I should be able to... 

"Trying to fight me with the air beneath your wings I see.

That is a good effort but unfortunately for you, my agility is beyond your reach so I will cut off one of your wings following it up with that dangling tail of yours."

That was easy, now as it is descending I will end its misery with a quick slit to its throat before it even touches the ground. This time I will use both my vampire speed and strength as its hide is quite tough, well not as tough as true dragons but quite tough.

Well, that was softer than expected. Looks like it is dead...

"How I have missed this body, I truly do feel alive."

Now to continue with...

Another wyvern, no wait it is a true dragon this time. Looks like now that the appetizer is done it's time for the main course. 

I flew straight to it with everything I got ready to face it head-on when I heard someone call my name. It was...

"Ivy?"

Now that am looking at it, this dragon does look familiar, so is this dragon Riley.

Well if that is the case then looks like I can safely retract my metaphorical claws.

"Riley Ivy is that you?"

"Yes, it is Master."

"Yeah Rae, it has been quite a long time.

Now climb on board 'cause we have a lot to talk about."

"Yes we have... but before we do can Riley take us to Carmine."

"Oh!..You want to see your Dad?"

"Yeah and everybody else too."

"Well, you have been gone for a long time..."

"I sure have"

"You haven't changed a bit since the last time I saw you too. Is there some aged magic only applicable to Vampire queens?"

"... I don't think so..."

"Anyway back to the current situation, Unfortunately for you we can't head for Carmine..."

"Whyyyy??"

"...Because, because your Dad and everyone else you knew is not there."

"Carmine village no longer exists? What is that supposed to mean?"

"... Do not get mad but...The church declared it a den of evil so they did a so-called 'purge'..." 

"A purge?"

"Yes, a purge...In actuality, all they did was massacre the innocent denizens of your home because... Well because they were different."

"What? The church? When was a church established and how could Rose let this 'purge' happen."

"Actually, her majesty Queen Rose is no longer on the throne it is her younger sister and my mother queen Diane that sits on the throne right now."

"What did you say???"

"I..."

"I have heard what you have said it is just that...

This is all too overwhelming but I can think about that later. For now, all I need to know is that the church massacred everyone I have known growing up including my Dad and for that, they will and must suffer and feel my wrath."

"Wait Rae calm yourse-..."

"Riley take us to the Church's Headquarters."

"Right away master."

"Rae! Waiiiit!!! You can't do anything rash. I can clearly see and feel your anger but you need to calm yourself and think about this rationally."

"What is there to think about? The church killed my family so now it is time I repay them in kind."

"You will get yourself killed."

"And so what if I do? Why should it matter?"

"The vampires still need you, Eleanor, Cilia and I still need You. The demons need you too don't you remember you are the Current Demon King."

"...Eleanor and the other vampires survived?"

"Yeah! There are even more of us. We can be your new fami-"

"That is good to hear. At least I still have some loved ones left but The church still needs to pay, blood for blood."

After those last words, I could no longer listen to what Ivy was saying. All I could think of was how I was going to attack the church headquarters. 

An approximate number of church officials would be between 4000-8000. If they have knights and whatnot their number could be more, let me just assume I am going to face a number of about 12000 people. While the odds may seem against me I am quite powerful on my own and considering I have Ivy and Riley then, No! Ivy doesn't look like she will be up for it so I better not make her a part of it.

"Riley when we approach the church's headquarters I would like you to drop Ivy off somewhere a little bit further since she seems to be against my current course of action."

"Yes master, I will drop her off there as we are almost arriving at the Holy capital."

"Rae!!!"

"Thank you Riley... Ivy, you sit tight I will come back for you when this is all over."

After that, we headed straight for the holy capital where I attacked the Holy sanctuary. with Flames. We spewed flames of fury burning down everything in our sights. 

Riley revealed to me that the Holy capital was more than the sanctuary. Everybody in that city was a follower of the church so it wasn't enough just attacking the church sanctuary. 

"If everyone is a follower of this backward religion then they have a debt to pay."

Driven by rage we went on a rampage burning everything in our way. By the end of it all the city had been completely destroyed. No person, or building could be seen standing. 

When we landed on the ground and I viewed all I had done, a memory of a similar scene come to my mind. It was one from my duel with Riley. That time when I saw her burning down an entire city. Was this a different play out of that vision?

Before I could even process what I had done a great rumble was heard throughout area and was followed by an earthquake then by thunder and lightning like collapsing dominoes. Looking up at the sky I saw them descending upon us, it was the Celestials 

What did they want now? Before I could even have any thoughts, I felt his presence the one I saw from the sisters of fate. The supreme one. 

"Is Ragnarok upon us?"

The events that followed played out as it happened in my vision, Then as if it was all a dream it disappeared and I woke up in a sort of white void that did not have any sense of direction. Next to me was an old man.

"This is the seventieth time and you have failed. You see, the only way to save your loved ones, is to accept your destiny as the savior."

After hearing those words, memories from all the past 69 simulations come back to mind.

"Am I ever going to be strong enough?"

"I can help you gain the strength you need to protect your loved ones. But before I do I would like you to think about what you truly want to do and what you need to do and if they are the same."
