Chapter 29: Homecoming Reveal

Rae's POV

When we got back many things had changed and mostly not in a good way. 

The faces of the people we passed by as we were heading to the mansion clearly indicated that a disaster was upon the village. The usual cheerful faces that I used to see, the villagers who were all usually full of energy and enthusiasm were now just like walking shells of their former selves.

 When we arrived at the mansion. We received a very warm welcome. Mom was there with her open arms ready to receive me. She hugged me so tightly repeatedly saying how much she had missed me that, I thought my ribs would break and my ears would fall off. Mr Harold who was there, then gave me a Nobles greeting, Oh no it was time to put Miss Luna's teachings to the test. To his bow, I performed a curtsy as a return gesture. Miss Luna looked very pleased with the exchange.

" You look lovely. You have grown to be very pretty."

It was the first time hearing those words coming out of someone's mouth. They should usually make girls feel very happy about themselves but for me, that was a stark reminder that I am no longer a boy. It made me cringe all over but somewhere deep in my heart it made me a little bit happy.

I was escorted to my room by one of the maids. The room I was taken to was not the one I used to sleep in. It was bigger and more girly than the previous one. There was a massively big bed in the middle of the room, and flower vases were put on each side of the bed each having a different kind of flowers. What was with all these changes? Even if I have a girl's body am still a boy inside. I unpacked the few girl clothes I had gotten while we were training ready to put them in the closet that was across the room. When I went to open the closet an array of different gowns and dresses was waiting inside.

Although I am a girl I am not the dress-wearing Kind. I prefer wearing tight trousers like those I wore while I was training. Trousers are what just feels more natural for me. As I was busy complaining about the new treatment I was receiving, a knock was heard at the door. 

" Lady Rae may I please enter your chambers to fit you into your dress for tonight."

" Sorry I politely decline. I will not be wearing any dresses tonight. Thank you"

" My lady please reconsider. I have been given specific instructions to bath you in nice petaled warm water then dress you in a dress just made for today's occasion"

" Sorry I don't need your help. I can bath and cloth myself."

" Please allow me to do this. If I don't, the master will get angry and I may get fired."

Hearing her plea made me feel that I would be guilty if she is fired so I decided to open the door for her.

" I am allowing you in but I won't be wearing any dresses and that's final."

" Thank you for letting me in. Now please allow me to lead you to the bathing area."

We walked slowly to a huge building at the back of the mansion only attached to the mansion through a walkway.

" After you my lady." the maid said slowly opening the door to reveal a huge pool of warm water full of flower petals.

" Please take off your clothes so that I may bath you with this soap."

At first, I cringed at the words but seeing as I am a noble I have to put up with this kind of treatment.

Although there was soap in this world, it was crudely made and only used on special occasions. But for me, soap was an essential so since the age of five, I have bathed all through with my own type of soap that I made using animal fat.

The presence of soap in my bathing and insistence of wearing a dress to this function told me that this was more than a homecoming party. 

When we got back into the room I found out that all my trousers had been taken for a 'wash'. That conniving maid had planned this all along.

" Sorry, my lady it looks like you will just have to wear the dress since all of your normal clothes are wet."

I had to wear the dress since there was no other option.

As evening approached many people from all over the village were arriving. There were elves, beast people, demons and humans alike. What a grandiose homecoming. Mr Harold was definitely pulling all the stops. 

When the party began everything started to come into perspective. I can't believe it is my birthday and I had forgotten. Mr Harold then asked me to dance with him before the final part of the party was revealed. Miss Luna's dance lessons don't fail me now. After the dancing and enjoyment of the feast, it was now time for the final event.

" Attention, Attention!!!" Mr Harold said while striking his wine glass with the cutlery."Before we officially state that Rae is nine years old, I would like to announce something very important. Many of you think of Rae as my child. Well in many ways I believe she is. She is like the daughter I have never had. She has made me Know what it means to feel like a father. But today on her ninth birthday I would like to reveal that Rae is of royal birth. Her birth parents are the second Princess Diane Wemberly and her husband Duke Christopher Monterey. "

Mr Harold then looked at me with his eyes glistering with tears. I know we made you believe that crystal and I were your parents but that's not true. Your parents are Christopher and Diane Wemberly.

Crystal then burst into tears.

" Please forgive me for taking the role of your mother. I do love and adore you as my own child."

" Why should I forgive you. You do not deserve forgiveness instead you deserve gratitude. You two have been far better parents than my birth parents. All they did was to give birth to me but you, you are the ones that raised me. Although my name has changed my parents haven't.

I thank you for raising me and hope you will still treat me as your child. With that, the cake was sliced and everybody enjoyed a piece. The guests then started parading themselves offering me their gifts.
