Chapter 66: The Shadow plane

Rae's POV

The oh-so-familiar darkness was engulfing me again. I felt like I was floating in the usual abyss. Eleanor was right at my back. I could not feel the presence of the foreign princess near me. Sight was of no use in this engulfing darkness.

I tried to clutch onto anything so as to at least get a sense of direction but it was like I was floating in pure nothingness. 

A red beam of light pervaded the darkness and a bleak-looking forest come into view. The trees looked to be so lifeless with no hint of leaves in sight.

The forest spew such an eerie aura that you knew that Darkness was all that was within. As I took several steps inside I could feel the stench of death at every corner. The gaze of the unknown was felt to my very bone. It was as if the forest itself was alive and very hostile.

My objective was to speed up Eleanor's Healing before I could start looking for the princess.

I put her down so as to at least catch my breath. Seems like the adrenaline rush had now died out. I was relieved that we got to survive such a beast of a monster. 

"My lady? Is that you my queen?"

"Eleanor...Looks like your vampiric healing has kicked in so there is no need for me to intervene"

"This is new for me my queen...I, I thought you did not like hugs"

"I am sorry... It is just that, I almost lost you to that beast's attack. I am sorry that I was not a very caring queen."

"You don't have to apologize. I am supposed to be your shield after all but it can be hard sometimes to do so. You are so powerful and gifted that I thought I would never get a chance to be of use to you but finally, I was and now can be of  little use to you."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that I am able to use fire magic now."

"How?"

"I am not really sure how but I think I can sort of use it."

"This is an interesting development...If this is true then I have to now teach you all the magic circle spells we constructed with Merle."

"Okay, I can't wait. I can finally be of use to you"

"Tell me how again did you find out that you can use fire magic."

"Okay, This is how it happened. When the drake got into position ready to breath out its flames. I immediately knew that I was not going to survive the attack, I could see that the princess was also in the line of fire and thus would perish with me. I wished to at least protect the princess for you as my last act as your servant. This was because I knew if the princess died, It would spell a lot of trouble for you. When the fire was released I immediately shielded the princess and out of nowhere there was a sort of red magic circles like those that you use that directed the flames away from us and onto the surrounding grounds."

"This is very interesting..."

"Speaking of which my Que- lady. Where are we and where is the princess?"

"I am not sure where we are but I believe we may be in a pocket dimension like the one Trina used."

"Po-ke-tu Dai-me-nu-shon? What does that po-ku-tu something mean my lady and how is it connected to Master Trina. "

"A pocket dimension is a finite space that is out of the current dimension we reside in."

"I still don't understand."

"Don't trouble yourself too much. Just know that Trina was able to travel between here and our dimension freely. About the princess. I am still not sure where she is. We got separated when we travelled through the gate."

"Oh, I don't understand much of what is going on but all I know is that we currently need to look for her. "

Suddenly a creature I had never seen before appeared. Its lower body seemed to be made completely of smoke while its upper body was a purely made out of the skeleton. Was this the so-called undead that I had heard of so much about?

I was intrigued. It slowly drifted towards us. Was it going to attack us? If it was, how was it going to attack us? Can we even make contact with its incorporeal form?

When it got into proximity, it tried to gesture out something like it was trying to communicate something. I think it was trying to offer us a way out of the bleak forest.

How very unexpectedly nice of it. 

We walked through the forest taking in the view of the many different creatures of this world. Most of them had a bleak aura as if they were made out of completely negative energy.

We then got out of the forest where the creature swiftly disappeared right after.

 A small like creature with horns and wings flew down to take its place.

"Welcome to the shadow realm. I am an imp and I will be your guide for today."
