Chapter 67: The Devils and their Queen

Rae's POV

"Ah, imp. Will you explain how you knew we were here?"

"Our Queen sensed your presence as soon as you entered our realm. She has instructed all the creatures of this realm to find and guide you to her."

"Your Queen? So this plane is ruled by a queen. Okay, what do we need to do to get to her?"

"I will be guiding you through all the arch devils' domain so that we can get to her majesty the Queen of all Devils."

"I understand that we need to see your Queen for entering her domain but we first need to find our friend."

"Oh, do you mean the little girl that entered the domain before you?"

"Yes...Do you know where she is?"

"I am sure our queen will be able to help you with that problem. She has the ability to know all those who enter her domain."

"Ok...If she knows where Cilia is then I think we have to go see this Queen of yours."

"Yeah. Let's start the tour then. First, we will go through the first arch devils domain."

We followed the imp to the first arch devils domain. 

As we continued to walk the environment around us seemed to change with us. The change was subtle but it was still there. I could no longer see the lifeless trees I was initially seeing. The all-encompassing feeling of darkness was still there but it felt different from the way it felt at first. We walked until the barren-looking land became even more barren and rock-like. 

"We have entered the first ring of hell. The domain of the arch devil Belphagor. The Devil of sloth and the weakest of the seven arch devils."

"Hell? I thought we were in the shadow realm?"

"We are, but the shadow realm is so vast and mysterious. It is said that it cuts across all the realms of existence. Well, the shadow realm has been divided into two parts by the queen that is the shadow veil where creatures of the shadows live and the seven rings of hell where the devils and archdevils reside."

"Oh interesting, So is your queen the overlord to all. of the shadow realm?"

"Yes, she is. She is the ruler of all of the shadow realm."

"She must be very powerful then."

"Yeah, she is. The domain of the arch devil is mostly composed of barren rocks. The devils that stay here are mostly shadow devils. This is because his domain is the closest to the shadow veil. Oh looks like he has noticed us. Hold on to each other we are about to be summoned in front of the presence of the arch devil Belphagor."

Immediately the world around us seemed to be warped. Was my sight playing tricks on me? What kind of magic is this? Is this teleportation magic? Or is this the control arch devils have over their domain?

My warped vision seemed to slowly return to normal revealing a cavern-like throne room.

"Welcome to my castle. So you are the anchor the Queen has chosen? I don't think you are good enough but I don't really care. So let me do this quickly and return to my wonderful slumber."

In front of us was a creature covered entirely with darkness. I could not tell what his or her actual body looked like. But from the voice, I assume he is male.

(in a lethargic tone)"For you to proceed to the next ring of hell you must defeat me by overcoming the abyss. This is a lot of work but if the Queen demands it I must follow."

Soon after the ground around us started to crumble. It was like there was an earthquake. The cracks that were formed started to release some sort of shadow-like tentacles. The tentacles quickly snatched up Eleanor and consumed her in a pool of darkness. What was this? What was happening?

The darkness around started engulfing me and I started to feel so tired. The exhaustion that I felt was none like I have ever felt before. The urge to sleep that was encompassing was like none I had ever had before.

"I cannot let myself sleep inside this darkness I need to find Elea..n..or a...nd... th...e p..."

Then a voice that felt so very far could be heard saying.

"Looks like she could not conquer the darkness."

I felt so warm and cosy like I was about to have the best sleep in my whole life but then the picture of those two come to my mind.

"I cannot sleep right now, I need to find those two then get out of here."

I started to feel my energy return to me. The darkness started to disperse.

"Oh, looks like you could conquer it after all. Congratulations. Here is your companion now go over to the next ring of hell. I am tired I need my sleep now. Good luck with the next arch devils."

I was no longer in the cavern castle anymore. I was now in the middle of an icy field. 

Eleanor was right there with me together with the imp before. 

"Looks like we have entered the second ring of Hell the domain of the arch devil Leviathan. The archdevil of Envy. She is one with an icy personality so please take care."

A blizzard appeared out of nowhere. The low temperatures were really something else. I could feel my body shivering from the intense cold. A Huge castle made out of Ice appeared in front of us after the short blizzard passed. The doors opened up to reveal such a glorious castle of Ice that was left in awe. There looked to be small servants walking with the castle.

"Don't worry these are Ice devils under my command."

I looked up and I saw her. A very beautiful human-shaped devil-like woman. Her hair was white as snow and her horns seemed to form a sort of crown-like appearance on her head. Her skin was extremely fair and her body had quite the seductive curve to it.

"So you are the one the Queen has chosen, hmph... How foolish. Right, this way to my throne room."

 I climbed up the stairs admiring what lovely architecture her castle had. We then entered her throne room. Although everything was made of ice it was as extravagant as it could get. The pillars had such lovely shapes with such detailed curvature. The throne itself had such beautiful artistry that I just could help but admire it.

" I had not taken a good look at you before but now that I see you clearly. You are nothing special. Now as requested by Her Majesty. I will be testing you."

"Testing me?"

"Oh what lovely girl you are."

"Merle? Is that you?"

"May I know your name?"

"Oh, my name is Eleanor."

What is this? Where did Merle come from? Why is she ignoring me?

"Eleanor, this cold is a little bit concerning can you use fire magic to alleviate us from it."

"Why of course. This is an easy task for me."

I too can use fire magic...Oh, wait I no longer can but still why is Merle ignoring me. Why am feeling jealous because she is talking to Eleanor? Why can Eleanor be the only one who can use fire magic?

Eleanor is trying to steal my best friend away from me. I need to kill her. That is the best possible way for me to get back the friend I have lost.

"Ah yes...Give in to your jealousy and envy. You don't deserve it."

I took up my twin blades ran straight to Eleanor and there and then aimed at her neck with the intention of killing her.

Something just doesn't feel right. I stopped myself before I could fatally wound Eleanor. Then the memory of the day I learnt of Merle's death replayed in my mind. 

"Yes that is right Merle is dead. This is all but an illusion. I will not fall for your tricks arch devil Leviathan."

"Seems like you passed the test. Off you go to the next arch devil. I don't want to see your face anymore."

As before the Icy landscape disappeared and a boggy one came.

We were now in a swamp. A very marshy one at that.

"We are at the third ring of hell. The domain of the third arch devil. The arch devil of gluttony Beelzebub."

I am starting to see a pattern. So are these arch devils suppose to be testing me for something. Their tests seemed to revolve around the so-called sin in their title. So if it the next one is responsible for gluttony then I should look forward to a test concerning food.

A monster suddenly attacked and swallowed us whole as we were walking through the swampy grounds. I could not tell what type of monster it was. 

The inside of the walls seemed to warp into an unusual shape. Suddenly out of nowhere we were in a library full of all kinds of books I could not believe It.

The books felt so authentic and real. I looked all around and I could see so many books ranging from books that had topics from my previous world to topics relating to this world.

I could not help but get overly excited. 

"My lady snap out of it. It is all an illusion. This a test, just like the others."

Was that Eleanor. Yeah, she is right. This must be my gluttony. An over indulgence in knowledge.

"Looks like you pass. To the next arch devil you go."

The next land cape was one befitting the title of hell. The land was full of volcanoes with such heat that I could barely bear it. A red dragon with such a massive and brilliant figure flew down from the mountain it was resting on.

"So you are the anchor. You have done well to reach this far. I am the arch devil who has dominion over the fourth ring. My name is Satan the arch devil of wrath."

So this is the next arch devil I must face. The dragon immediately breathed out his fire and out of nowhere the memory of mom and Merle's death played out in my mind. I could not help but get so angry. 

"The demon king must pay for taking those two from me."

"My queen control yourself. Remember this is all a test. If you let your rage take over you then you have lost."

Eleanor was right. If this act on this rage I feel right now I would fail the test. The Demon king that he is showing me is just an illusion the true demon king is the one that should feel the full brunt of my wrath.

"It's unconventional but still acceptable you pass. Of you go to the next arch devil."

The hellish landscape disappeared and a new one appeared. 

We were in a castle. The sudden urge to act lecherously overcame me.

"Welcome to my domain. I am Asmodeus. The arch devil of lust. I am the one responsible for this ring of hell."

The one who was talking had such a magnificent figure that I couldn't help but gawk at it. He reminded me much of those angels who I saw in the past. They also had a magnificent figure like his.

"Let us test your will to overcome the urge."

At first, he sent handsome men my way thinking I would fall for his temptation but nothing worked. Although I felt very lusty I was still a straight man inside so being with other males was not going to fly with me.

"Interesting. It looks like you swing the other way. Then, women, it is."

At first, the figures of the bevvy of beautiful women he sent my way looked enticing but then I started to lose interest. Looks like the urge was dying down. Maybe living with many beautiful women has numbed me? Yeah, that might be the case.

"How is this possible most people cannot easily overcome my lustful trap. Seems like to the next arch devil it is."

The usual warping of the land happened and we appeared in a majestic castle made of gold covered with all types of gems. 

"Welcome to my castle. I am Mammon the arch devil of avarice. Now depart from here. I cannot spare anytime on you"

And that is how I reached the final destination.

"Welcome to my castle. I am Lucifer the Queen of the Devils."

Looking at her, she looked quite familiar. It was like had seen her before.

"I sense the blood of the celestials in you but I also sense the blood of my kin in you. Whose side are you going to take?"

Celestials? I have the blood of the celestials in me. Maybe that is why I can use light magic.

"Answer my Question quickly!"

Suddenly a sudden pressure was emitted from her when she spoke. I could feel my body tremble with fear.

"I have no quarrels with either of you so I will not be taking sides. The one I have a quarrel with is the Demon King."

"Demon king?"

"Yes, Demon King."

"You are foolish then for the Celestials' wish for the destruction of the demon kind and the world as a whole."

"Even so my grudge is still with the demon king"

"What if I tell you the Demon King is but a puppet for the Celestials to manipulate."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that the Demon King is the same as you. With both demonic and angelic blood within him. But for her, she chose to work for the angels."

"Then what are the celestials after?"

"Power. They have always been after power. Ok, let me tell you a brief story before we go on. Before I became a devil I was a demon growing in strength.  I got power for my people to save them from oppression. My powers continued to grow with my continued being. Once I started to reach new levels of power the Celestials who were not yet known to the world showed themselves and came to kill me so as to snuff the new growing power out. Luckily I had made a pact with a fairy who we then merged with to form my current being of The Queen of Devils Lucifer.

When I become a devil I got banished to the shadow realm never to see the material plane ever again. Slowly I come to learn the secrets of this world one being that we were not truly the original inhabitants of this world.

Although I could not access the material realm a little bit of my power could and by using that I was able to try and protect my people with it."

"So are you the first vampire queen?"

"Yes, I am. Before you come along I did not think it possible to access the material plane but now that you are here it is a possibility."

"How?"

"By you being my anchor. So again I ask you are you with the angels or the devils?"

"If what you say is true then the celestials need to be stopped. And more so if they orchestrated the death of my dear loved ones then they must pay. But before all that could you at least tell me where the princess is."

"Oh, this little girl there she is. I see you have quite the good servants. You should try and learn how to work with them so as not to have a repeat of what happened to the dungeon.

 Now that you have agreed to become my anchor you need to get powerful enough to summon me. Right now you are very weak and cannot handle doing anything. Since we do not have enough time you will have to get the power that resides deep within the labyrinth."

"That is what I was after even before I met you."

"Oh, but I sensed you running away from the dungeon."

"Ah..."

"You do know you will still reappear in the dungeon. You can only get out of a dungeon by using its gates"

So that is why the drake thing did not even try to stop us.

"You don't seem to understand what dungeons and labyrinths are. Let me explain them to you. Dungeons are doorways to labyrinths. One cannot access a labyrinth without conquering a dungeon. When you conquer a dungeon you get to access the labyrinths. labyrinths are layers of different pseudo realms formed from the realms that currently exist. I believe that this is all a security measure for what lies inside the last labyrinth. That is the power that the Celestials are hiding from the world. I would like for you to access it and as my anchor, you can summon me to the material plane where we can defeat the celestials once and for all."

"Were all the tests that I had gone through just for you to determine if I can be your anchor?"

"Yes they were and you seemed to have passed them all."

"That was not very nice of you...Anyway if dungeons and labyrinths have layers and layers then wouldn't it take a lot of time before I could reach there. "

"Don't worry all you need to do is conquer a dungeon. Once you conquer a dungeon, you can cheat the labyrinths by using its overseer. I think that the overseer is in the material plane currently among one of the demon generals. You have to be careful for she is extremely powerful. Almost at the same level as I currently."

"Okay, I will. But how will I know the overseer."

"You will just know"

"Okay very vague but will see. So how do I get back to the material realm?"

"Don't worry I will return you to the sea of shadows and you should automatically return to the dungeon you were in."

"Before I go do you think I can train with my vampire servants so as to tackle the dungeon better? Last time I only trained myself and it got me nowhere, this time I want to train as a team and see if we can conquer it together."

"I have no queries. You can train until you feel you are ready. I will provide you with the necessary space."
