Chapter 71: The path to conquering a dungeon

Rae's POV

It has been about a month since I came to the shadow realm. I have gotten to learn more about my companions and more about this world's history and how it all works I think.

The devil queen is so adamant that I become strong so that I can become her anchor in our plane of existence which she refers to as the material plane.

Supposedly anything banished to the other planes of existence by the celestials cannot sustain its existence in the material realm. They need to be summoned by a powerful being in the material realm. The being that summons them needs to have a lot of power and control over their mana and the strength to sustain their materialisation. 

Eleanor's abilities with fire were quite unique and interesting. 

She knew how to conjure up every fire magic circles I had ever created before I could even teach her. It was like she had a library of my magic circles in her head. She too seemed puzzled that she had such knowledge. Maybe it has to do with the telepathic bond we share.

The foreign princess also has some weird abilities that I have no knowledge of. She has given my curiosity an itch but I can't afford anytime to study her abilities fully. I also seem to share a sort of telepathic bond with her. This was made apparent when she shared some memories with me. I felt it then very strongly. Maybe that bond is what is responsible for her obsession with me?

The Devil queen strongly hates the celestials. She says the Celestials rule the world in the shadows. They also hate it when somebody on the material plane grows too powerful so she warned that I will most probably be attacked by them sooner or later. 

She also told me something about the four races that reside in the material plane being foreigners but unfortunately, she did not have any more information about where they come from and about who the original inhabitants of this world are. She also did not seem so sure about the fact but still insisted that that must be the case since the other inhabitants of the other planes of existence completely hate the races that reside in the material plane.

It is time for me to return to the material plane and for that to be done I have to be dropped into the sea of darkness or other know as the sea of shadows.

Apparently, the sea of shadows connects to all the shadows that exist in all the planes of existence. Using the sea of shadows it is possible to travel to anywhere in the world.

It is still not known how the sea of shadows works but apparently it always knows where to take you. For me right now I will be going back to the same dungeon that I had run away from a month ago, I am not sure how much time has passed but this time I... I mean we will definitely defeat that drake thing.

After we were ready the Devil Queen Lucifer dropped us into the sea of shadows and soon after the encompassing darkness of the abyss was all was felt. Light pierced through the darkness and we were back in the dungeon.

"Welcome back challengers, the rules are still the same. For you to move on to the next level you must defeat me."

The drake was still terrifying as the first time but this time I was not going to face it alone, I was going to face it with my team.

I had reviewed my plan, the first time I tried to attack it at the neck since I thought that was the weakest spot but that would take a lot of effort the best way to defeat it is by attacking it in its open areas such as the eyes nose or the mouth although the mouth is also a little bit hard to deal with.

Taking all that we are able to do I have devised a very simple plan.

First I would use my vampiric speed to tire the beast then apply gravity magic on its massive body afterwards Eleanor will aim long-range fire arrows at its eyes. This should blind the beast or if it has a regeneration skill buy us enough time to do some heavy damage by using Cilia's blood magic or whatever magic she can use.

When we put the plan into action it looked like it was working although the gravity magic was draining a lot of my mana. When the fire arrow entered the field of gravity it became bigger and stronger must be because of the gravity making conventional currents that feed the fire even more oxygen. While the fire was bigger and stronger its trajectory went a little bit off and missed the eyes hitting the roof of the cave dislodging a huge rock that immediately experienced an increased gravity and fell on the head of the drake dealing it some damage. 

This was not according to plan but it definitely helped since its eyes were hurt in the process and a little bit of blood spilled. Cilia used her blood magic to attack it with its own blood. When she started doing this the Drake started to struggle fighting with the gravity magic. I could tell that it was in pain. It moved its head away from the rubble and tried to aim its mouth at us so as to burn us with its flames, unfortunately, the gravity magic was too strong for it to open its mouth so it ended up burning itself. The gravity magic I was controlling started to feel like it was getting weaker this was definitely because my mana was getting drained this little window afforded the drake a little movement it seemed that its tail was going to hit Eleanor until it just stopped and fell down. Immediately a lot of blood just oozed out of all its openings. Looking at it looked like its outer body was intact but its inner organs must have exploded. Is this the foreign princess power? That is a little bit terrifying. 

Cilia was very pale seems she was drained. Although l also felt a little bit drained myself my mana recovery speed is high so I can definitely share my mana with her.

After giving her a little bit of my mana her colour seemed to return. Eleanor was a little bit shaken but other than that she was fine.

The body of the dead drake seemed to start disintegrating and what was left behind looked like a computer storage device and a blue sapphire ring. Were these the dungeon treasures left after defeating the drake? What are they capable of?

The gate glowed in luminous light and some weird inscriptions appeared on the gate before disappearing. The gate then opened.

I was suddenly feeling a little bit stronger as if I had just gained energy from somewhere else. Is this what they call levelling up?

We passed through the gate and went to the second level.
