Chapter 2: 1.2 The Ritual

It was nighttime that day when I saw someone sitting on a fallen tree just within the perimeter of our village so I got curious and took a look. Not far away was a very elegant girl wearing strange clothing who seems to be the definition of a noble miss as this was my first time seeing one. I thought it was only my imagination since she looked so young yet she was giving off a presence like that of an elder. I wondered what reasons should a noble like her be doing in my village and alone at that. Had they arrived earlier, they should have been the talk of the whole village right now. I was about to leave to share this news with my friends when I suddenly got called by her.

She beckoned me to sit with her and I did in a hesitant manner with my head bowed down. I waited on her next words but we just sit there till I finally felt the chill of the night. I wanted to go and put on another layer of cloth since I was wearing a thin tunic but I was afraid it might displease noble girl and think I didn't want to be with her. When I took a peak, I saw her still looking at the direction of the moon with the most beautiful face I'd ever seen. Finding enough courage to speak, I asked her.

"Uhm, do you like the moon M-Miss?" I stuttered since I don't know what to call her. Half-expecting a reply, my eyes wandered at the sight of the moon. A few seconds later, I heard her sigh and told me.

"No, but I'm thankful for its existence" After a brief pause, she added. "When... I'm consumed in darkness, the moon would be there to help me get back." 

Is she talking about the moonlight? 

"What's your name little lass?" 

 I was surprised when she called me a little girl despite looking like we were the same age. And for some reason, she laughed when I told her my name. 

"I want to believe this could be a sign. Very well, I will give you a chance to save your skin, now answer me. Do you like the moon?"

Although I was confused about what she meant when she said chance, I still answered her with what I honestly thought of the moon.

"Well, I like the moon because the light helped me many times when I can't see in the dark. I guess I'm also thankful for its existence" Sometimes I work in the field till it gets dark and its moonlight is enough to see the path to walk home.

I suddenly felt cold when the noble girl just stared at me without saying a word. I was about to comment on how quickly the air became chilly when I notice I couldn't move my mouth. I tried to stand up but I realized I couldn't even move my whole body!

Their surrounding turned black as if they were in another dimension as the seemingly beautiful noble lady slowly turned into a monstrous figure while the girl in brown dirty tunic could only look at her in horror. 

The terrifying creature has long arms,  bluish gray colored skin with black and white wings protruding on her back. Her head now had horns and pointy ears while her fangs are visible from the corners of her mouth. She stretches her claw-like hands toward the frozen girl who thought she would slice her apart but soon saw the monster had torn her own hand and the flesh floated around which ultimately turned into a ball of blood. 

The mass of blood as if alive, slowly gathered on the poor girl and wrapped her whole. Soon, screams can be heard inside the cocoon-like cover. A moment after, a specter appeared with a similar yet smaller version of the monster who suddenly charged at the former, but got easily crushed by her elongated wings which abruptly expanded at a bizarre angle. The specter finally disappeared and was replaced by the girl whose eyes completely turned black. Transforming back to her humanoid appearance, the pointy-eared woman lightly caressed the cheeks of the girl like a loving mother. 

"You will serve your purpose later. And if you managed to survive the ordeal, then that would be your blessing.

Arise my child,

LOCRIAH"
