Chapter 139: Chapter 138 : Ambushed!

Entering his corridor, Silver moved to defuse but before he could, he was ambushed by another. Chloe, in hopes of meeting the fused being, raced down from the Duke’s booth.

Silver rewarded her efforts, and for the next few hours stayed as he was, bringing great joy to the Duke and his bodyguards and the Ganurgian group who had wanted to meet him for the longest time.

After leaving Samuel’s manor, he finally defused and plopped down before the fireplace as usual.

Once alone, Hana brought up the topic that had been gnawing at her. It was, of course, the matter of Silver’s ‘bad’ first time. Taking in the trepidation and worry in her eyes, the duo couldn’t help but cave in. Together, they recounted what had transpired on that fateful day. Hearing it, Hana was quick to wrap them up in her healing hug. After a while of this, the conversation moved on to another but related topic, romantic relationships.

“Hmm, thinking about it, any relationship you boys have will be a poly one, won’t it?” Hana mused out loud as she twiddled the Psi Controller. “What arrangement would you two have exactly? A separate lover for each? Or would you share one?”

((The latter, of course,)) Ralf, as a Psi Clone responded without emphasis or delay. ((What is Ray’s is mine, what is mine is Ray’s, what is ours is Silver’s and what is Silver’s is ours. The matter of lovers will be the same. As for the exact arrangement, that’s up in the air. One lover, two lovers, more, honestly, I’m not too hung up on the exact details. As long as they can accept us as we are and love us more or less equally, everything else will fall into place.))

“Mmm, I see.” Hana approved of the words. “Ray, your thoughts?”

“The same. I’m not totally against the idea, but I doubt we’d get a lover any time soon.”

“I’m surprised you can say that after what happened earlier. Atenisha was more straightforward with her feelings but there are easily thousands maybe even tens of thousands of people in Popleigh of the same mind.”

Ray shrugged. “Lust, infatuation or both…that pretty much sums up all of those tens of thousands’ feeling toward us.”

“You really think there are none among that group that hasn’t truly fallen for you two?”

“Even if there was some, it would change nothing. Just because they’ve fallen for us, doesn’t mean we’ll automatically return their affections, at least I know I won’t. Ralf, being the clumsy fool he is, will fall for practically anything and everything.”

Ralf didn’t bother to defend himself and continued to massage Hana’s shoulders in silence.

“I’m a much tougher nut to crack. I’ve only recently got acquainted with love.” As he voiced this, Ray went limp and plopped his head on Hana’s lap. Adjusting a little, he made himself comfortable before continuing. “I’m a beginner getting his feet wet. Thanks to you, I’ve got to experience how amazing familial love is. It’s easily been the best thing to happen to me.”

Hana’s chest warmed at the words. Her hand moved to caress her sons’ cheek.

Ray’s face fell into a gentle smile at her touch. Feeling the sensations pass through him at this moment only served as more evidence to support his claim.

“With familial love being as amazing as it is, I’ve definitely become more interested in love’s other forms. Still, romantic love is too high level for the current me. Only after a few training arcs, a couple of time skips and serving an apprenticeship under a master of love, will I see myself, and by extension Silver, being prepared enough that I’m able to take on the daunting task of being in a romantic relationship. So, in summary, while it will come one day, that day is on the horizon.”

“On the horizon huh, I wouldn’t be so sure of that.” Glancing down, she traced her fingers across her sons’ face, admiring the beautiful features she and Robert had successfully managed to pass on. “You two are always saying it right, the future is uncertain. Ray, could you picture yourself in this situation back in your old world?”

“...Not at all.”

Hana nodded. “Exactly. Falling in love is the same. Just like Ralf’s Unique power, it’ll tug at you with an irresistible force, forcing you into a whole new world, one of magic and mystery, where you must fight battle after battle with yourself to become the best version of yourself.”

((Not bad,)) Ralf chimed in.

Hana smiled proudly at the compliment. “Aha, thought of that on the spot too. Anyway,” she ruffled his hair, “ don’t get too fixated on timelines, for before you know it, you’ll be knocked off your feet. You can try holding up your guard, build the thickest walls around your heart…but all of this won’t be enough to stop Cupid’s arrow.” She prodded at his forehead as though indicating a target before finally saying, “And that can come at any time.”

“I see…that does make sense.”

“Of course it does. I was a victim of Cupid’s arrow myself, so I know. I was just a farm girl who liked building weird things and calling it art. I had no shortage of admirers seeking my affection, but at the time, my mind was filled with nothing but my art. That is, until Robert showed up out of the blue. While flying overhead, he had seen my half done giant rock sculpture and grew curious about what it was…at least, this was the reason he gave initially. Landing in the field, crimson locks swaying in the wind and eyes burning with an invisible flame…it was at that moment that Cupid’s arrow struck.”

Affection filled Hana’s voice as she recounted. She went on and went. Everything she spoke of, were things the duo knew already from previous tellings. Still seeing the glow of happiness on their mother’s face, neither two interrupted. Eventually, though, she ran out of steam.

“Aahhh, so tired, the sandman’s bat must have struck or something. I’m calling it a night. See you two tomorrow okay, good night sons.”

Parting with a hug and these words, the duo was left alone in the living room.

They didn’t immediately leave for the Mental Space on this night though but instead spent the next thirty minutes before the ageing fire discussing the topics which had come up.

The three days separating Match 7 and Match 8 passed slowly but excitedly to those of the Arrin Dukedom.

By noon of the next day, the topics brought up in yesterday’s match were discussed to death. But like a phoenix, a little fire was enough to resurrect it anew, and with the dukedom currently ablaze, the duo’s stories were immortalized.

Besides the duo’ stories, the released anime continued to impress night after night. International attention continued to grow, and with it, money, something the duo was all too pleased to hear.

With the duo leaving shortly, they made sure to spend as much time as possible with their mother, watching anime, movies, adventuring…doing anything really. Regardless of what it was, it was a good time, something all parties were in agreement about.

Right now was a rare period of separation from her.

“Thanks, Charles.”

The old man behind the counter shook his head vigorously. “No no no, I should be thanking you. Business has been booming thanks to you,” he tossed up a chocolate bar, “everyone’s convinced my sweets are magical. Honestly, I can’t order enough. It’s too bad you’re leaving, will miss your visits. Daughter will too. Hey Ralf…”

Seeing the trajectory of the conversation, Ralf’s face turned sheepish. Luckily for him, his other self came to his rescue. Ray hopped over to the outside world and materialised a Psi Clone.

((Ralf, mom’s waiting, hurry up.))

“Ah, oh yes. Sorry Charles, I have to be on my way.”

“Oh, a shame. Here, take this with you, it’s on the house.”

Ralf, being who he was, took the chocolate bar without question.

Charles smiled. “Enjoy the sweets, you too Ray.”

Nodding at the old man’s words, the duo along with several bags of snacks left the store.

Upon leaving though, they met with a most unpleasant ‘ambush’. Looking at the unpleasant pair standing at the corner of the street, Ralf’s eyes narrowed in displeasure.
