How would Violet fare?
The answer: like most of her classmates.
She had undergone military training and was a fairly competent norin combat fighter. However, her inheritance potion let her down.
Thunder Monarch’s main draw was in making its user hypersensitive to electromagnetic energy. It did enhance Violet’s physique and senses, but not too drastically. And nowhere near enough to allow her to compete against the likes of Roxy.
Just like Yuki and many others, Violet was slapped around helplessly. Worse, Roxy had added a tad more punch into the mix.
“-Ah,” Violet let out a sharp yelp as she had her wind knocked out of her. She fell to her knees and clutched at her abdomen in agony while desperately gasping for air.
Roxy didn’t follow up on her attack and instead circled her ‘prey’, all the while brandishing a crooked grin. ‘That prince was up there, but you…you take the cake, princess. Ahaha, how long I’ve waited to do this.’
Violet was someone who inspired infatuation and envy in others in equal measure, and Roxy had caught a bad case of the latter. Since hearing about Violet’s intention to enrol, the martial artist had been watching the calendar with peeled eyes and bated breath, waiting for this day, for this moment to arrive.
She loved thrashing random talents, but nobles and other elites were her favourites. Violet was the perfect target for her pent-up negative emotions. The princess was everything Roxy wished to be and more; beautiful, admired and most importantly, powerful.
The female fighter approached her opponent’s backside and kicked, sending Violet toppling over. The Mimic squirmed on the ground to Roxy’s delight. The martial artist then circled to her opponent’s front and lowered herself.
Her hand dropped onto Violet’s head and then her fingers began gliding through the princess’ lengthy locks. The Mimic’s hair was smooth, silky, clean, and glistened beautifully under the panels’ lighting.
To most people, caressing the princess’ hair would be a pleasant experience, but for Roxy, it was anything but. Experiencing the sensations, the female martial artist’s heart soured.
Her inferiority complex flared up and a new dose of agitation was injected into her veins. Her grip grew rough and violent, and she yanked Violet up by the hair, causing the Mimic to release to a pained cry.
“What now princess? Gonna cry, you sure look like it, aha. Bet you’re starting to regret your decision to leave home right about now, no? The outside world isn’t as comfortable as that tower of yours, far from it. Here, no one will save you or protect you…you have no one…daddy ain’t here to protect you either, ahaha…”
Violet turned lame as she registered the last words, becoming no different than a puppet whose strings were suddenly cut.
‘Ahaha, did I hit her off switch or what?’ Roxy thought in amusement as she tugged Violet’s head back and forth without any resistance.
The venue went silent as the atmosphere turned heavy. Roxy’s gleeful laughter continued to echo out.
This laughter served to awaken the princess from her daze. Seconds later, awareness filled the Mimic’s blank eyes and her consciousness re-anchored itself onto reality. When it did, boundless anger surged from the depths of her being and ignited her spirit into action.
Her left hand inched up slowly until it was only a few centimetres off from clasping around Roxy’s wrist. The female fighter thought nothing of this movement, too amused by toying with Violet’s head…but that would quickly change.
*Buzz*
“-Aargh!”
Suddenly zapped by Violet’s lightning, the martial artist was stunned.
‘Lightning, how?!’ Roxy questioned in bafflement as her body involuntarily jolted in place.
She had overestimated the starstone’s anti-Psi properties and paid the price for it.
Draconian stone stripped much of Violet’s lightning-wielding prowess from her, but not to the point of leaving her stark naked. By concentrating all her Psi into one spot in her Personal Zone and firing it in a short burst, Violet could produce a taser-level attack even in the starstone’s presence.
After delivering said attack, Violet bolted into action. Tugging Roxy off-balance with her left hand, she sprang up and cocked back her right fist, readying a powerful punch.
Violet was furious. Roxy hadn’t switched the ‘off’ button as she mused, but had definitely hit a button she shouldn’t have. Never before had Violet been so determined to harm another until this very moment. All pain vanished from her awareness as her anger surged. Her face and body twisted in response, and the princess fired off a hefty punch. She watched it race towards Roxy’s face with great anticipation.
But…her fist would stop short of its destination as a Psi barrier suddenly obstructed her attack. Stopped, she shot a glare towards Yu Ling, the one responsible. The Silver Fang Hunter weathered her stormy look without batting an eye and simply shook his head.
“Miss Astor, this is a norin battle. No Psi powers are allowed, and you’ve just used them. Therefore, you are disqualified,” he calmly explained while stroking his black beard.
Violet stared at him with a heated look but didn’t argue the point. Eyes still burning with the flames of enmity, she blinked slowly and then without sparing Roxy another glance, turned and walked away. Her fingers dug into her palms as she returned to the stands.
Her fellow students welcomed her back with congratulatory words at her near victory. Violet’s mood lifted at the reception, but her expression remained darkened and smouldering.
She had half a mind to isolate herself as Anton and Yuki had, but the sight of the twins’ welcoming faces turned her away from that idea. She sighed and much of her wrath seemed to escape her. Unclenching her fists, the princess dragged her feet back to the twin’s side.
“So close and yet so far, ah, what a shame. That punch would have been so satisfying if it landed, it’s too bad,” Charlotte stood up and greeted Violet with these words. The Onic Master then spread her arms. “Bring it in, I know you need it right now.”
Violet’s raised an eyebrow at the gesture, and then again when she saw Skye mimic it.
“Pick your poison. My sister or I, which will it be?”
The false dichotomy proved too much for the princess in those moments, and in the end, she went with Charlotte, who couldn’t be happier.
Skye dropped his hands down in disappointment and sighed, but not before trading a wink with his sister.
Charlotte read the ‘you owe me one’ look in his eyes and nodded before fully appreciating the bodacious beauty in her midst. ‘Aaah, big, soft and warm, the perfect combination…and she smells great too; battle really is the best perfume. Mmm, I could stay like this forever,’ the merchant thought as her face melted in pleasure.
Violet too enjoyed the experience. Human touch had been pretty much absent from her life for the last few years, so she relished the hug. Her heart overflowed with an old joy and her previous negative emotions saw themselves out. She shut her eyes and fully embraced the experience for what it was, pleasant.
Charlotte gave as good as she got - no, even better, as Violet quickly came to find out.
“Ah, this is…thanks,” the princess said in appreciation.
Just like Anton, Charlotte could also use telepathic powers to ‘dispel’ feelings of pain. She had extended a telepathic link towards Violet and then proceeded to flood the princess’ mind with pleasant sensations, thereby drowning out her feelings of pain.
“No thanks needed, you deserve it. You did well out there, better than anyone else,” Charlotte said before focusing her sights on a scowling Roxy, who had just recovered and was about to welcome her next opponent. “I understand the reason for this practice, but those two went too far. I’ll be sure to kick miss Poneytail’s ass for you.”
“Mmm?” Violet released a confused sound at the words. Hugging the other, it was clear to the princess that Charlotte, while in perfect shape, was unenhanced. A quick groping inspection told the Mimic that Charlotte was even weaker than herself. With such a disadvantage, the princess couldn’t square Charlotte’s claim.
She wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
“So you’re confident, are you?”
Charlotte glanced back at the speaker. Instead of answering the question, she asked one of her own. “You two took forever in the bathroom, what were you doing? Naughty stuff?”
“Naughty stuff,” Ralf repeated as he cupped his chin with a look of genuine contemplation. “Hmm…not really, though…it is stuff best kept in the dark…for the world’s sake.”
Charlotte narrowed her eyes, unsure of what to make of Ralf’s words or actions. The mystery in his shadow darkened by the second and conversely, the light of fascination swirling in her eyes glowed brighter.
Ralf seated himself beside Skye and reiterated his earlier question. “So, how are you going to pull it off? I’m curious. You don’t look too physically strong, and even if you are super skilled, I can’t see that being enough to close the gap. Do you have a special ability or something?”
“Or something,” the Onic Master responded cryptically.

“I see,” Ralf’s lips quirked up. “I look forward to seeing it then.”
“Do so, everyone will be in for a treat,” Charlotte followed up with a sly smile.
Ralf accepted her answer as is and then shifted his sights to the squares below, where two students could be seen fighting. “So, how many people are left? Shouldn’t be too many at this point, right?”
“Yeah. The only ones who haven’t gone up are sis and I and Lane and you,” Skye explained.
“Swell.”
Saying absentmindedly, Ralf focused on the students below. From the looks of it, they wouldn’t be creating any upsets any time soon. Watching them be helplessly beaten for a minute or so, the Transmigrator couldn’t help but return his attention to the ladies and ask, “How long are you two going to embrace for?”
“What, jealous?” Charlotte asked wearing a grin, continuing to wrap herself around Violet, who looked to have no intention of separating either.
“Extremely,” Ralf emphasised without missing a beat.
Charlotte chuckled. “Well, at least you’re honest. How about this, if you win your match, I’ll reward you with a hug.”
“Deal,” Ralf couldn’t respond quicker. It had been years since his last hug thanks to the recent Psi games endeavour. He wouldn’t turn away a hug at this point, and certainly not from a beauty of Charlotte’s calibre.
Charlotte’s face curled up into a smile, clearly satisfied at his apparent eagerness. At that moment, Gerard’s voice sounded, announcing the end of the two matches below.
“Oh, you’re up next, good luck.”
“That won’t be needed, but I’ll take it anyway.”
Charlotte gave Violet a final squeeze before breaking away. Separating, the Onic Master couldn’t help but smile as she captured the wanting expression the princess wore in the aftermath.
“Violet, when I return, I expect a hug, one celebrating victory, prepare yourself,” Charlotte said in a tone closer to imparting an order than making a request.
The lightning Mimic beamed regardless. “Sure.”
Charlotte ruffled the princess’ hair with a smile before turning away. “Let’s not delay any further. Brother, come, we have butts to kick.”
“Hm, you’re going together?”
“Of course,” Skye responded to Ralf’s question with a resolute tone.
The Transmigrator’s eyes flickered at the confirmation; various dots began connecting in his head. He kept his thoughts to himself and wished the twins good luck as they confidently strode toward their respective squares.
“What do you think?” Lane started, his gaze glued to the twin’s backs.
“There’s a chance,” Ralf said.
Violet glanced toward the pair. “A chance,” she repeated with a questioning look.
Ralf nodded. He spoke his thoughts, but not before erecting a soundless barrier around the group.
“Not just one, but a few. Beating Roxy or Adrian outright is a tough ask for most, and an impossible ask for the likes of the twins if we’re just going off their physical capabilities. The key to beating such superior opponents is pulling off a coordinated attack…which I’m pretty sure is what they’re planning to do. Going up together can’t just be for moral support; I’m sure they have a tactic in mind.”
“Coordinated attack?” Violet repeated with a raised brow, the notion hadn’t even crossed her mind.
“The fact that you’re not in the know narrows down the list of possibilities quite significantly. You’re the perfect person to coordinate with,” Ralf said, stealing a glance at Violet’s side profile.
Blinking slowly, he turned his attention to the ceiling and continued. “For instance, this training hall is entirely lit up by light fixtures. If they coordinated with you beforehand to cause a power outage at a prearranged signal, the plunge into darkness could be enough to gain victory. Another method would be if you, instead of sabotaging the lighting system, simply flashed the pair with your lightning when they were facing this way. Either one of these tactics would pretty much guarantee success in the ring.”
When Ralf finished his words, the way Lane and Violet looked at him had shifted, the former subtly while the latter more drastically.
“They’re not using either of these methods, but a third, riskier method involving projec- oh, looks like they’re starting, better focus up, the moment of truth is at hand.” Saying this, Ralf dispelled the soundless barrier around them and cupped his head into his hands to enter camera mode.
The former assassin and princess nodded at the words and cast their attention down to the squares.
Gerard did the honours and the twins’ matches began. True to Ralf’s prediction, the two did have a plan that involved coordinating.
The first minute of their matches went like most matches had gone; the twins were thrashed and clobbered. Needless to say, their identities as Merchant Pillar offspring only worsened their beatings. Roxy, who had been fuming from her near loss to Violet, was especially violent with Charlotte. Of course, this treatment didn’t faze the Onic Master.
She cheated as Anton did, and used her telepathic powers to ignore all pain. Skye however, was on the verge of tears, only managing to keep it together due to his fixation on appearing cool in front of the opposite sex.
The twins held on and at the eighty-second mark, they finally went for it. Having subtly escorted their targets to where they needed them to be, they sent each other the assigned signal, in the form of profanity.
“Fuck!”
“Fuck!”
Following the exclamation, both reached into their pockets and retrieved a…chocolate ball candy, the same brand Ralf often ate.
The pair of fighters showed mocking looks, but this would quickly change. The twins drew back and with all their might, threw the candies. Adrian and Roxy angled their body to shield themselves from the projectiles but…
“Urgh!”
“Aaa!”
Instead of their opponents, Skye and Charlotte had targeted each other’s opponents. The candies made an ‘X’ in the air to swiftly arrive at their destinations. Not expecting the switcheroo, both Adrian and Roxy were struck by the hard candies. The twins weren’t expert throwers or anything, so them hitting the martial artists’ eyes was mostly down to luck. Still, luck or not, it happened and the twins took advantage of it.
After throwing their respective projectiles, they rushed in. Adrian and Roxy were only a metre away from their square’s border. The twins didn’t aim for a knockout but instead went for pushing attacks. Skye opted for a frontal kick to the other’s stomach while Charlotte took a more athletic approach. She jumped and crashed both boots into her opponent’s chest, before using her as a springboard. With an extending motion, she pushed Roxy back and then flipped herself into a cat-like landing.
In the end, both methods did the trick. Adrian and Roxy didn’t sustain any damage from the attacks; after a wobble, they found their footing. However, said footing was out of bounds.
“Woooo!”
“Whoa!’”
“They actually did it!”
“Skye, you’re so cool!”
“Charlotte, marry me!”
The dreary students were whipped into a frenzy upon registering the results. The twin’s victory - or rather the martial artists’ defeat was cathartic for them. Cheers, whistles and shouts rang out as the students celebrated the victory as though it were their own.
