The students collectively beamed at the news, with several even releasing ecstatic utterances. They were eager to wipe off the stain that was the first day and eager to distinguish themselves from their peers.

Nazo smiled, enjoying their excited reactions. “For those who don’t know, Paintball Royal is a simple battle royal. Essentially, all hundred and one of you will be dropped in zone 11’s Dreadfall Forest, given paintball guns, and tasked to eliminate everyone else until you’re the last one standing. This is a norin event though, so using Psi will instantly disqualify you.”

The students’ enthusiasm took a hit upon hearing that another norin event awaited them. Coming to a certain realisation, troubled looks invaded their faces and their gazes naturally drifted to a certain individual.

Nazo noted this and moved to relieve the lot. But before she could, Ralf beat her to the punch.

“Don’t worry,” he spoke up, immediately grabbing all attention. “I won’t use my mental signal spike tactic during the event. If I do, even by accident, the Academy can disqualify me. I won’t use it…and don’t need it in the first place.” He rolled his shoulders before continuing. “My chances of victory remain the same even without it, that being…one hundred percent,” Ralf said, flashing a cocky smile.

The Transmigrator’s words were both relieving and aggravating to the students. Though, which effect was stronger was obvious in the aftermath. The room erupted in noise as curses and outbursts were given airtime.

Nazo again watched in amusement. She indulged in the youthful boisterousness for a few seconds before clapping. The room became orderly and silent within seconds as students once again refocused on the History teacher.

“A class that has class…is an excellent one,” she said with a smile before directing her gaze to Ralf. “The Academy accepts your conditions, young man. We were going to lend everyone a netherian necklace for the duration of the event, but I guess we don’t need to anymore. Thanks.”

“Always happy to help.”

Nazo showed a pleased look before sweeping her gaze over the room.

“One last thing to mention,” she continued. “Since it will be a physically demanding event, it’s best that everyone wears appropriate attire. Something that you can move in comfortably. A lot of you will have to do some changing. Also, while those paintballs won’t kill you, they do pack a mean sting, so take care. Everyone is to be at the student hotel in twenty minutes. From there, you’ll be transported to the Dreadfall Forest in chunks. Okay, that’s everything I had to say…use your time wisely, students.”

Following these words, students scrambled into action. Thoughts of forming secret alliances were had, thoughts of flooding their veins with potions to gain an advantage were had, thoughts of targeting specific individuals were had…and very soon, these thoughts were put into motion. The class’ electric energy rubbed off on Ralf, who became ecstatic himself.

“The first event, how exciting, right guys and gals?” he said with a smile.

“What was that controller about?” Charlotte asked, having not let the topic drop from her mind.

“You’ll understand tonight,” he brushed her off before suddenly narrowing his eyes and joining his hands. “Instead of that, don’t we have something more important to discuss?”

Charlotte and the others’ eyes lit up as they remembered the bet. The Onic Master’s lips curled up and delight swirled within her eyes. “Yes, we do. The moment of truth has arrived, let’s do thi-”

“Wait,” Ralf interjected as he saw Charlotte about to flip over her report card, “before the reveal, I have a proposal.”

“Hm, you’re not chickening out,” Charlotte asked, squinting with a look of warning.

“Of course not, the opposite actually.”

“Oh, we’re listening then.”

“What are you guys talking about?” Yuki questioned, confused by the sudden shift.

“Oh, you see…” Ralf turned to her and enlightened Yuki on the matter of the bet between them.

By the end, the ice Mimic wore a wry smile. ‘This guy’s unbelievable. Oh well, on the bright side, looks like I won’t be the only victim of this menace today,’ she thought, a sigh escaping her cheery lips.

She wasn’t privy to all or even most of Ralf’s details, but from what she caught from the conversion between her PA and Ralf’s, she was certain the record-breaker Nazo had referenced was him. Hearing the ‘anything’ part of the reward, she couldn’t help but feel pity for the group.

Ralf read her thoughts and smiled, before turning to the others. “Okay, back to my proposal. We’ll keep the reward the same, but the conditions will switch up. Before, only the winner could get anything from me, but now everyone has the opportunity to…even if they’re not first. If you manage to score higher than me, regardless of your overall ranking, I’ll grant any single wish you have…that is not weird. Good?”

“Accepted,” Charlotte answered at once.

“Yeah.”

“Perfect.”

Skye and Violet followed up while Lane simply nodded, all too eager to accept the new conditions.

Ralf smiled, the devils on his shoulders beginning to tap dance. “Okay, we’ll do the reveal together,” he said as he placed his report card before him. “Snowball, want in as well?”

“No, I’m good,” the ice Mimic replied firmly; she wasn’t looking to embarrass herself further today.

“I see,” Ralf turned back to the others. “Everyone ready?” Getting nods, Ralf began the countdown.

The group’s fingers tensed up in the passing seconds as they awaited the signal. Three seconds later, the go-ahead was given, and in a most dramatic fashion, a collective flap rang out as the pages were violently flipped over. After a momentary swirl, the group’s senses rushed to the pages.

From right to left: Violet - 450, Charlotte - 404, Skye - 417, Lane - 467 and Ralf - 401

“Whoa…we won!”

Following Skye’s outburst, the group exploded with jubilation.

“Ahaha, I knew one of us could do it…but all of us, great work team,” Charlotte rejoiced, handing out high-fives with a bright smile on her face.

Meanwhile…

“...Huh, I lost?” Ralf’s face went blank as he stared at the pages. His eyes darted between his page and the others with a look of disbelief, as though the letters and characters were completely foreign to him.

‘He actually lost?’

Similarly baffled was the observing Yuki…at least until she caught Ralf’s expression change after he covered his face with his hands. The smirk hidden from everyone else told her everything she needed to know.

‘This guy…wait a moment, he didn’t…back then…’ Thinking up a possibility, her face twisted with incredulity before falling into an understanding but bitter smile. ‘Ralf…what a cheeky bastard.’

As if hearing her thoughts, Ralf glanced her way and sent a playful wink before resuming his act.

He sighed a long sigh in his hands before removing them and turning to the expectant faces of Lane and the others.

“Looks like I’ve underestimated you all, not bad,” Ralf said, wearing a conflicted look.

“Thanks, your words mean much, though the rewards mean more,” Charlotte said, smitten.

“Of course, a deal is a deal. I’ll hear you out. Let’s go from right to left, take it away, princess.”

“Umm, I’ve taken an interest in anime and manga, so I’d like to meet those involved with their creation. It doesn’t have to be in person. Over a telepathic link is also fine. Can that be arranged?”

“Yes, that can be arranged,” Ralf said decisively, causing Violet’s face to brighten. “Pick a day and time and I’ll set the meeting in motion. Next, miss money bags.”

“The Silver Path,” Charlotte started. “I want to know everything there is to know about the faction. That’s my request.”

“Very well, I’ll give you a briefing tonight. Next, brother…older brother, please state your wish.”

Skye showed a look of approval at the new address. “Hmm, I’m not too sure. How about this, you have to reveal every secret you have to me.”

“That will cause your brain to explode, but suit yourself. I’ll be sure to scatter your remains from the tallest mountain I can find. Now, friend Lane, state your wish.”

“I want to play Psi games whenever I want, the normal ones and the real ones,” the former assassin said, predictably.

“Okay,” Ralf clapped. “I’ve heard all your requests loud and clear. Now,” his voice suddenly lowered, ominously, “I wish for you all to hear me out.” At the words, the group began sensing the shifting winds.

Ralf floated himself to the other side of the desk, grabbed his report card, scrunched it up and then under the shocked gazes of Charlotte and the others, tossed it in the bin in the corner.

Before they could question his actions, their attention was seized by the new report card Ralf pulled out from his bag. At the sight of this and Ralf’s mischievous smile, clicks immediately sounded off in their heads.

“Don’t tell me…”

“No, you couldn’t have…”

“Yep, I did,” Ralf cut the twins off with a smirk then flashed his real report card.

He couldn’t gain access to their CAT scores, but he didn’t need to. The Transmigrator asked Mason to make a fake report card, and have the final score be slightly beneath Violet and the others’ scores.

Ralf’s usual playfulness played a part in deciding to go with this ploy, but only a minor part. It was his desire to better understand them that truly drove his actions this time.

“Tada!”

754!

The group’s eyes, Yuki’s included, bulged as they caught the unbelievable number.

Reaching the 400s was considered the realm of the elite of the elite, so Ralf’s score rocked the group to their very cores.

“Another fake,” Charlotte accused after a few seconds, still shaken at what she was seeing. “There’s no way it could be that much higher…” her words died down as she saw a grin-wearing Ralf shake his head slowly.

“This is…reality,” he said firmly.

His words stunned the group while also provoking applause from Ray who was listening in. Finding both reactions delectable, a smile formed on Ralf’s face. He then turned with a coat flap before striding off. “Let’s go, victory awaits, well my victory anyway ahahaha…”

In his cackle’s wake, the group’s marvellous expressions turned fierce as a flame was lit under their bellies.

[No matter what…we can’t let him win.]

At Charlotte’s declaration, the group moved, determined to deny their classmate’s prophecy.
