Chapter 16: Caged, part 2

He continued to speak but I ignored him as I was very hungry. Joseph noticed but didn’t seem to care. He then went topside and closed the door. It wasn’t the right time to try and escape seeing as we were on a boat, and I did not know how to drive a boat. With that thought I laid down and took a nap.

          When I next woke there was a different man sitting the chair reading a book with a woman showing her ankles to the reader on the front. My stomach growled and I looked down and the man looked up.

          “here’s your food,” he said as he threw a stick of jerky of some kind of meat through the bars of the cage.

          I leaned back on the bars of the cage and gnawed at the jerky. When I was done curled up into a ball and fell asleep, the man looked back up at me though. But he put his head back down and chuckled.

          “Ankles,” he said quietly.

When I woke up the man threw another jerky stick in the bars and left. The next man seemed to be mad at someone that also seemed to be himself. He was grumbling at air as he kicked the chair then the bars of the cage. When he was done with kicking the cage picked up the chair and sat on it. Looking at me he said.

“What are you?”

“I’m a spirit beastkin,” I responded in a monotone voice.

“But you have antlers and wings?” he retorted.

“I kept the spirits in my body to long and they mutated it,” I said.

“oh, I thought you were cursed,” he responded in a shocked tone.

It seemed no one had told him how spirit magic work and he was confused. It seemed his anger had subsided when this line of questioning had popped up, and when the lines stopped, he heated up again.

          “Why did we even go here? I mean there is nothing on that stupid isle. Like why even grab beast like you?”

          He seemed to be complaining to himself and just scrunched my shoulders in front of his rage. The man was skinny and blonde as well as having blood shot eyes. He kept trailing off in his rant about his rotten luck. I kept having to remind him about the lines he was spouting.
