It seemed to me at least that thy took the words of the king very seriously. The layout of the forest was strange. In the center was the village and to the southeast of that was the manor and to the north of the village was the castle and to the east of the castle was the cloven pit.

It took us about 2 and a half hours to reach the castle. The gates to the castle looked older. They were made of stone and unlike the wooden walls of the village. Said village was made from woven trees and paper all smooshed together. They looked strange.

This wall looked to be made from concrete and lime. They stood at about 60ft tall. Though we could not see the tops of the wall as the trees of the Wirewood were as tall as the redwoods of California. These woods were strange. The forest around the castle walls had a strange feel to them.

Like someone was pouring their senses out of their body to see the world. When we made or way to the gate the guards let us in. these guards looked to be in their mid-40s. but seeing as they were elves they were probably as old as the manor itself.

As we walked to the courtyard from the gates, I noticed lots of spirits and fairies playing and frolicking. Fairies in this world were basically the same as the Disney ones that the south made rampant in media. When they saw me, they ran over and started of investigate me and Emner.

“who are you?” spoke a fairy.

“I’m the wielder of the blade of Emner,” I stated.

They seemed to get excited from that. Like all living things, spirits and fairies are born. But unlike people and domesticated animals they had souls of the earth. This meant they could not die or reincarnate. Simply they dispersed when  they wanted to and were absorbed by the earth. This meant that old man spirit was absorbed by me. Is he hadn’t given his existence up to me I would have died.

We walked up to the door of the castle, and it opened. The door was small. About 30% smaller than the average door.  The person on the other side of the door was a Beastkin. She like me had cat ears. But she, unlike me, had blue hair. She seemed timid and bowed her head. She then motioned me inside the castle with a wave. When I stepped forward the guards did not come with me.

“The guards are not allowed in,” said the girl, “only people the king is comfortable with can come in. I’m Olivia, his majesties nurse and maid.”

As she led me down the dark and cramped halls, I noticed something. There are no servants. Only Olivia was there.

“so can you tell me something about yourself? Like where you are from? Or why you are blue?” I asked.

“I’m a spirit beastkin. As for the servants, we had some, but they all died from old age,” she stated.

“How long were they working here?”

“Since they were toddlers. The king doesn’t trust any other people,” she said.

While we were talking, we got to his room. The door to the room was smaller than average. The frame and door itself were made of iron. Olivia opened the door, and I went inside as she indicated.

She did not follow me.

What I saw when I entered was not what I expected. The elf sitting up on his bed of stone was covered in linen bandages. The bed like I said it was made of stone. The sheets that covered the bed looked old and frayed at the edges. his wings were fully spread out and were withered. He looked to be over a hundred years old. His hair was grey and long and the one eye that peaked out of his wrappings was crusted and vile.

“So, you must be the child that Emner picked this time around,” came his voice which was projected into my mind, “so I’m assuming you don’t know who I am?”

“Well, I know you were the first of the Wirewood elves,” I replied, “and I know that you and Emner know each other.”

“That is right. I have not told her anything else as I thought you were dead and the info was irrelevant,” said Emner.

“That is true. I am dying. And my racist as fuck son I dead, so I have another thing to worry about,” he responded, “the truth was I was going to transform myself into a spirit using a ritual and takeover my son’s body, but now,” he paused letting the news hit us like a ton of bricks, “so, the thing is, I needed him to live so I could live. That is why let him do as he pleased.”

“Wait,” interrupted Emner, “so you would use the theoretical magic just to live another day? What happened to you? What happened to the little boy we left after we passed this place to you?”

“Life happened; I’ve been ruling so long I don’t want to pass the torch. And I’m not going to.”

Just then a burst of magic came forth from the elven king like a tidal wave. Rolling over me like a pebble in a river. I puled Emner from his sheath and held him out in front of me. He produced a shield of magic in front of us and I crouched, dodging an attack from in front.

The king was standing in front of us and laughing. Life seemed to ebb into him. Olivia opened the door to see what the problem was, and the king pounced on her. The epicenter of the magic went from the king to her as the king went limp.

Olivia stood up and looked at us then smiled.

“A female body is strange. There is no bulge down here,” she spoke in two voices at once, one the king’s, one hers, “but there a lumps up here,” she or him or what have you spoke and touched her breasts, “how pleasss!!!!!!”

They doubled over and started bleeding from the nose. They then fell on their back and started crying and screaming.

“Get out of my head your majesty! A maiden’s head is not a place for an old and wise king!” she shouted this time in her own voice, “I do what I want, when I want! Leave this form!” the king shouted back.

They then went limp. I walked over and poked the body with Emner, and it stirred.

“Augh, my head. It hurts so much,” said Olivia, bleeding from the nose.

“Are you alright Olivia?” I asked.

“yes I think so.”
