Chapter 20: Waking Up

A week had passed since Darell, Emma, Lilith, Eric, and Ariel had encountered the incident.

During this week, Emma and Lilith refused to leave Darell's side. For the first two days, they had even rejected eating or drinking but under the constant pestering of the Instructors and the pleading gazes of Eric and Ariel, they gave up.

 Eric had been visiting the Forbidden Forest where he had been fighting against the beasts. He made sure to not create a conflict with higher ranked beasts and fought rank 04 or lower beasts. He brought the beast cores back and he gave them to Emma, Lilith, and Ariel. Although they refused at first he reminded them that Darell wouldn't have wanted them to waste their time. So, they accepted the beast cores and used them to increase their mana while waiting for Darell to wake up.

Ariel asked Instructor Lin to help her get stronger and learn rank 04 spells. Instructor Lin had the Sound ability just like Ariel so, he agreed. Furthermore, the fact that the King was secretly observing and protecting them made him agree even more. He was secretly relieved when Ariel asked him to teach her rank 04 spells because if the Dean asked them he could inform him of Ariel's progress.

Ariel's progress was astonishing for Instructor Lin. Usually, people would take 3 months to learn a rank 04 spell but Ariel took only a week. Instructor Lin felt that the King was right in keeping these monsters away from the grasp of the other kingdoms.

Emma had increased her mana and had leveled up to level 10. She refused to learn rank 04 spells stating that she would learn it together with Darell after he had woken up.

The Instructors tried to persuade her but she refused each time. She never left Darell's side during the week and stayed with him even when she ate hoping that Darell would wake up.

Lilith had leveled up to level 10 and increased her mana. Athena tried to persuade her to learn rank 04 spells to get her mind away from the depressing atmosphere. 

But, she refused while saying that if she wanted to get stronger, she would get stronger with her brother beside her.

Eric had also leveled up to level 10 and had learned rank 04 Earth spells which made him acquire rank 04 Earth skills. He obtained the skills by absorbing the beast cores from the beasts he had killed in the Forbidden Forest.

Ariel had learned rank 04 Hypnosis and rank 04 Sound spells while also leveling up to level 10. She hoped that when Darell woke up, she would use her skills to help Darell in the events that were going to be held in the Academy. She hoped that this incident to never repeat itself.

All the Instructors were dumbfounded by their growth and looked at them as if they were monsters with unlimited growth potential.

Instructors who had learned rank 08 Healing Spells were ordered to heal all the injuries on Darell's body. Although they could heal most of the injuries, the treatment would take a long time because Darell had suffered grievous injuries and it required a lot of MP to heal them.

To their surprise, Darell's injuries healed at an astonishingly fast rate which baffled the Instructors. His injuries healed with extreme precision as they could see his muscles and s being healed without the use of mana for the first time in their lives. 

The Dean of the Academy checked Darell's condition and talked to Emma, Lilith, Eric, and Ariel daily as he frequently came to the medicine hall. All of Darell's friends had become used to the Dean's presence and would greet him politely.

When the Dean noticed Darell's rapid regeneration rate he was surprised and asked Emma, Lilith, Eric, and Ariel about it. But, they didn't know about it and Lilith feigned ignorance as she realized that the regeneration was the system's work. She secretly thanked the system.

The Dean narrowed his eyes at Darell and decided that he would ask him when he would wake up.

The Dean had been summoned by the King and ordered to explain the incident in detail.

Although the King knew about the incident, he wanted to hear it from the Dean.

The Dean knew that the King was worried about Darell so, he didn't omit any details about the incident.

The King heard the incident and gave him orders which made the Dean raise his eyebrows in surprise. But, he agreed to follow the orders.

Also, the Dean and the Instructors turned a blind eye to the incident regarding Abel and his subordinates. Instructor Lin had caught Abel and hypnotized him to explain the details of the incident that occurred.

When they heard the incident, Lin snorted in disgust at Abel. He then reported the incident to the Dean who casually brushed it off.

As a week passed, Darell's condition gradually improved. His legs which were broken and twisted healed and looked perfectly fine. His arms which were burnt to such a degree that left his bones visible were healed. The healing of his arms was watched by the Instructors and the others because they could see his muscles forming over his bone bit by bit which fascinated them. His upper body which was burnt to a crisp was healed and looked normal without any scars. His face which was charred was healed and was devoid of any scars. His whole body was completely healed without any scars as if he had never gone through any incident.

His body which was previously pale and slightly bluish had regained its pink color.

He had started breathing at first with short, little breaths which were long, deep breaths.

When they saw him breathing everyone was surprised. Emma, Lilith, Eric, and Ariel exclaimed in joy because it meant that he was going to wake up soon.

As his breathing grew more and more stable, he was sure to wake up. His body twitched a few times which made them hold their breaths thinking that Darell had woken up but they were left disappointed when he remained unresponsive.

Finally, Darell's eyelids fluttered which made everyone hold their breaths.

After a few seconds, Darell slowly opened his eyes and looked around groggily. 

His vision was blurry and he felt a sharp pain assaulting his head.

"Ugh.."

Darell grunted in pain as he got up from the bed while holding his head. He shook his head repeatedly and surprisingly the pain dissipated.

Due to his vision being blurry, he failed to notice that all of the Instructors and his friends were standing in front of him.

As his vision cleared, he saw all of the Instructors and his friends standing looking at him with various expressions.

Emma walked towards him with her head lowered.

She raised her head and her eyes met with his. Darell saw the tears streaming down her cheeks and her sorrowful gaze pained his heart.

"Emma, I —"

* SLAP *

A sound reverberated in the medicine hall which turned eerily silent.
