Chapter 23: Schemes

Darell, Emma, Lilith, Eric, and Ariel were following the blue-haired girl to Instructor Athena's office. The girl wasn't bothered by Emma's or Ariel's vicious stares and teased them by smirking at them.

When they arrived, the blue-haired girl gestured for them to go in while she walked away.

Darell knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Darell and the others entered the office. Athena was arranging paperwork in her office. When she saw the group, she quickly finished and asked them "Now that Darell has woken up, are you all able to attend classes? I don't want any kind of distraction during my classes."

Darell and the others nodded.

Athena said, "If that is the case, then you have to attend your classes from today."

Athena then gestured for them to leave but when they were leaving the office, she shouted.

"Darell, you have to stay."

Darell stayed in the office while the others left the office.

Athena moved her gaze up and down and scanned Darell's body.

Darell felt a weird chill in his spine and nervously asked "Instructor Athena, Is there something wrong with me?"

Athena narrowed her eyes at Darell and said

"Do you know why people fall into a deep slumber when they have run out of mana?"

Darell thought for a moment and then shook his head.

Athena sighed and said, "You are still young so it's natural for you to not know the reason."

Darell didn't say anything and listened to her.

Athena continued "If a person has completely run out of mana that means the mana in their body has been exhausted. 

Usually, when a person's mana is used up after using a skill, they can fill it back up by drinking a mana potion but if that person has exhausted his mana as you did, the mana in their body would use the blood to replenish itself.

This forces the heart to pump out more blood which takes a toll on the heart. This further takes a toll on the brain."

Darell was surprised as he heard Athena's explanation.

Athena narrowed her eyes and spoke in a serious tone " You have managed to survive such an ordeal. This means that you were given a chance. You know what to do with this chance, right?"

Darell nodded his head.

Athena said, "Okay, then you can go to class now."

Darell then left the office.

Meanwhile,

In the second-year students' dorm rooms,

Abel and his subordinates were kneeling with faces bloody and bruised.

In front of them, a figure was sitting with his legs crossed on a chair. He had a whip in his hand while looking at them with disgust.

He said "I gave you every opportunity to fulfill your goal. I gave you every chance to improve yourself in serving me. I gave you everything that you have right now. EVERYTHING."

Abel and his subordinates shuddered in fear when they heard the rage in the voice.

When the figure heard no response, he cracked the whip and hit Abel and his subordinates.

"AAAAAAAAH"

They screamed and shrieked in pain while clutching their bodies.

The figure asked, "Tell me again, HOW—DID—YOU—FAIL?"

On the other side of the Academy,

Lilith, Emma, Eric, and Ariel were in the classroom where Instructor Athena was teaching. 

Since they had learned some rank 03 spells, they were exempted from learning any new spell. They had to study the intricacies of spells and everything related to it.

So, while the rest of the students were trying their best to understand the spells, they were reading books on spells.

While they were reading books during the magic classes being held by Instructor Athena, Darell was exploring the library.

The library was located on the east side of the Academy. It had three floors which distributed the students according to their years.

It had hundreds of thousands of books on each floor which were written on every topic.

Currently, Darell was exploring the first floor of the library.

Well, he had to be in the library during magic class because the Instructors had ordered him to search the library for books on the Space ability as they didn't have a single person in the whole world who had a Space ability like him.

Darell didn't mind being unable to have someone to teach and guide him about the Space ability because he thought it was better for him to learn about it by himself.

As he explored the library, he noticed two students whispering to each other while pretending to read.

One of them whispered to the other "Did you hear? Abel and his gang got beaten up by the boss because he couldn't accomplish the task given to him."

Darell first didn't want to eavesdrop on their conversation because he considered it rude but when he heard Abel's name he stopped and listened to their conversation.

The other just nodded his head while putting a finger on his lips reminding him that he wasn't alone.

They didn't proceed with the conversation and continued pretending to read.

Darell walked away from them while thinking of various things. He found out that someone called 'boss' was ordering Abel and his gang to make trouble for them. He knew that many people were jealous of him being able to obtain the Space ability but to make trouble for him for so many years meant that there was a bigger reason for doing so.

Darell curled his lips up in astonishment. He wasn't afraid of the 'boss' because he had the system. He was intrigued by the identity of the 'boss'. 

He shook his head and he grabbed a few historical books to pass the time.

He sat down in one of the empty chairs and read the historical records. He was searching for any record of Space ability but strangely he couldn't do so.

After a few hours of searching, he glanced at the clock and closed the books.

After finishing arranging the books, he walked out of the library.

He met with Emma, Lilith, Eric, and Ariel outside the training halls.

All of the students were chatting with each other while waiting for Instructor Lin.

Instructor Lin arrived outside the training halls and began explaining ways to kill a beast. 

After he had finished his lesson, he ordered the students to begin their training.

He looked at Darell and the others and reminded them "Don't try to conquer the dungeon today. Once you start feeling tired, you have to finish your training. 

Remember, this training is to make your body and mind used to battle."

Darell and the others nodded and went inside their training hall.
