Darell was in the library. He was taking books on historical records. The Librarian was puzzled by Darell's behavior today. Every day he would come to the library and take 2-3 books on historical records and silently read them in a corner of the library. But, today he took every book on historical records off the shelf. The students were also confused and intrigued by his behavior so, they were secretly observing him while pretending to read.
Darell of course knew that the librarian and the students were observing him but he ignored them as he had been accustomed to the whispers and the stares he would receive from the students and the teachers. He concentrated his mind on his task.
Yesterday, during the fight with the ogres and the goblins, he had a sudden thought.
'Ogres and goblins exist in the dungeon but I have never heard nor seen someone mention them in the outside world.'
Darell was confused because he knew that monsters like ogres, goblins, etc existed in the world but they were present only in the dungeons.
'What happened to them? Why are there no monsters like them living in the forests?'
Darell thought to himself while taking away the last book on historical records.
He sat down in a corner of the library with a large desk and he placed all the books on it.
He sat down and swiftly opened the first book and began scrolling through the pages while searching for information.
After a few hours of searching, he found a crumbled-up paper. Darell realized that the paper had been placed from another book into this book.
He straightened the paper and read its contents with wide eyes.
The paper contained a hidden piece of history that for some reason wasn't mentioned in any books nor did people talk about it. Most probably, they forgot about it.
As expected, tens of thousands of years ago, the world was not only inhabited by humans but also different types of beasts and monsters. These monsters were ogres, goblins, lizardmen, orcs, giants, etc who lived in the forests in their settlements. Even mighty existences like wyverns and dragons existed at that time. Humans would fight the monsters for food and land and the monsters would eat humans as their food. This situation remained for thousands of years until a disaster occurred.
The whole planet shook as if it was angered by its inhabitants.
Volcanoes erupted, tsunamis and floods occurred, tornadoes as big as thirty mountains destroyed everything in their paths, and earthquakes destroyed entire continents.
Nobody was spared from the disaster as everyone was swept away and killed.
However, strangely, some humans survived the disaster through some luck.
The remaining monsters ran away and hid inside the dungeons in their last attempt to save themselves.
They were saved, of course, but at a very heavy cost.
As thousands of years passed, their souls were absorbed by the dungeon cores and their bodies were left behind as shells to be controlled by the dungeon.
Darell's hands were trembling in shock and fear as he read the hidden secret of the world.
He took several deep breaths to calm himself and closed the book.
As he thought repeatedly of the secret of the world, he frowned when he realized a deeper secret.
'Who destroyed the whole world? Just who was capable of such power?'
Darell thought to himself. The more he thought about the mysterious person, the heavier his breath grew. His heartbeat grew wildly and sweat formed on his forehead.
Sensing his condition, the system talked to him.
[No person was responsible for the destruction of the whole world.]
Darell heard the system and asked, "Then, why did it happen?"
[ The system does not know. ]
Darell frowned. He thought that the systems were meant to know everything but in this case, even the system doesn't know which meant that it was stronger than the system.
[ The host should forget about these matters. He should focus on what lies ahead of him right now.]
Darell shook his head to disperse his thoughts when he heard the system's advice. He closed the book and placed all of them back on their shelves as he left the library.
Meanwhile,
In the magic class,
Eric was busy memorizing a rank 04 Earth spell. He was chanting the spell over and over again to understand the deeper layers of learning it.
He was so concentrated that he failed to see Ariel looking at him curiously.
Ariel was also memorizing a rank 04 Sound spell a minute ago but she suddenly felt pain in her head and stopped memorizing it.
When a person is learning a spell through a scroll, it takes time and a huge amount of willpower to learn it. Usually, if someone is memorizing a spell, they feel pain in their heads sooner or later. This means that the brain can't accept more information and if someone continues learning it despite the pain, they are bound to be hurt.
So, Ariel stopped memorizing the spell when she felt the pain in her head.

To pass her time, she began watching Eric curiously.
However, she noticed Emma create a tiny Light sparrow and send it flying through the open windows.
Of course, Athena saw her but she ignored her behavior as she saw that Emma had finished memorizing her spell for today.
Ariel then nudged Eric but he didn't notice her. She nudged him continuously and Eric snapped back and looked at Ariel. She pointed her finger at Emma and both of them turned towards Emma.
They saw Emma sneakily create more Light sparrows and send them outside the windows.
Eric sighed while turning to look at Ariel and said "She is using those sparrows to keep an eye on Darell. She has been like that since Darell has woken up."
Ariel nodded and replied "She is afraid of losing Darell. She had almost lost him once so, she isn't going to be like before and lose him again."
While they were talking, they heard Emma's gasp and turned around to look at her panicked expression. After a second, she sighed in relief and continued experimenting with her ability.
Eric sighed and went back to understand the spell.
Ariel had a concern hidden deep within her heart. She had noticed that Eric had been growing distant since they had entered the academy. She feared the worst but looking at his downcast expression, she felt as if a dam had broken down in her heart.
"Eric, do you still love me?"
Eric heard her trembling voice and put down the scroll.
When she heard no response, she couldn't bear the pain in her heart and tears started to flow down her cheek.
Eric saw her crying and panicked. He stroked her cheek and hurriedly replied "Of course, I love you. It's just...."
"Just what? Am I not good enough? Am I not beautiful enough?
Tell me, where did I go wrong? "
Ariel asked while crying.
Eric hugged her and stroked her hair while she hid her face on his shoulder.
Eric then told her his biggest concern.
"It's just that I feel as if I will be left behind by all of you. You will eventually surpass me and I will become a good-for-nothing husband after we marry.
All of you have a rare ability whereas I have a common ability.
Darell can still court Emma because he has the Space ability which makes him protected and sought after by many families.
If I marry you, it would look like you took pity for me and married me."
Ariel silently heard him and pulled away from his hug.
She calmed herself and said "Are you a fool?
How can you think something so absurd?
Did you ever think that you are lucky not Darell in this case?
You have a common ability which means if you work hard and get enough help you can learn rank 10 spells and become one of the strongest people in the world.
Whereas, Darell has no teacher and no one to help or guide him in learning new spells. How you ever heard of a rank 10 Space spell?"
Eric felt his throat run dry as he contemplated her words. He had never thought of the matter this way.
Eric sighed and bowed his head in apology and said "I am sorry."
Ariel giggled mischievously and said, "If you are sorry, then you have to kiss me right now."
Eric was startled and saw Ariel point to her cheek.
He blushed in embarrassment and kissed her. She smiled heartily and kissed his cheek.
Suddenly, a cold wind flew from behind them and they shivered.
They turned around and saw Athena glaring at them.
They immediately went back to the scrolls.
Athena turned her attention to Lilith who was reading a scroll with a pained expression.
Lilith looked at her with a defeated expression and said "Instructor Athena, I am not able to understand this verse."
Athena then began explaining to her.
"It says...."
