Chapter 8: Varona Royal Academy

Darell and Lilith drove towards the Academy in the carriage flowing the flag of the Baron of Xena.

The Varona Royal Academy was located in Varona which was the royal capital of the Kingdom of Gavaria.

The Kingdom had four dukes and each duke was assigned a particular sector and was responsible for it.

The Duke Of Zukvar or the 'War Minister' was assigned full control of the armies and held the responsibility of improving its capabilities.

He also held the most power among the Dukes.

The Duke of Wysteria or the ' Agriculture Minister ' was responsible for the food production and its distribution in the Kingdom.

The Duke of Ethil or the 'Finance Minister' was responsible for the treasury of the Kingdom. 

He held the most power when discussing trade with the other kingdoms.

The Duke of Lurris or the 'Home Minister' was responsible for the internal affairs of the Kingdom.

The carriage of the Baron of Xena stopped at the Flinster Inn in the Asolear town. This town was in the Duchy of Zukvar.

They went to the desk and booked a room.

Afterward, they entered the room and rested for some hours.

In the evening, they arrived at the dining hall and sat down at one of the tables.

The maids served their dishes and they began eating.

Darell looked around and found the whole hall packed with people.

Most of them were students who were going to attend the test at the academy.

Every year, this particular inn was packed with students and nobles who were going to attend the test at the academy.

Suddenly, the murmurs and the shouting vanished, and the hall became silent.

Intrigued by this abrupt change, Darell and Lilith watched the people responsible for it.

A kingdom-toppling beauty whose elegant aura radiated around her as she stepped forward.

Accompanying the beauty was another beauty whose charm attracted the attention of all the men present in the hall and the jealousy of the women. 

Both of them waved their hands at Darell.

All the men looked at the person they were waving at and immediately they narrowed their eyes.

Some of them snorted in disdain, some of them didn't care while some of them couldn't help but feel jealous.

Darell rolled his eyes at the reaction of the people as he was accustomed to these reactions since childhood.

"You are taking revenge for what happened at the banquet, aren't you? " 

Darell continued eating his food without batting an eye at the person standing in front of him which invited further reactions from the people present.

But they didn't dare to voice out his behavior as they knew who would support him.

"Serves you right. You should not have acted so arrogantly in the banquet." 

Emma pouted.

Darell shifted to the side and Emma sat beside him while Ariel sat beside Lilith.

"So, where's Eric?" Darell asked.

Ariel clenched her fists when she heard his name. Darell and Lilith shifted their gaze to Emma who helplessly shook her head.

"Oops, wrong question." 

Ariel laughed hysterically and said " No, it was the perfect question. "

She took a deep breath and said " That idiot said it is better to meet at the academy than waste time hanging out with his future wife."

' I am pretty sure he said he was going to the academy directly.' he chuckled inwardly.

Darell, Lilith, Emma, Ariel, and Eric were childhood friends and their friendship was 

not based on opportunism or greed.

This was one of the main reasons their friendship lasted long and none of their parents objected to it.

Darell chuckled when he thought of the beating Eric was going to receive from Ariel.

Emma noticed Darell and pinched his cheek.

" I let you off easily. Maybe I should start the sessions Ariel has with Eric."

Darell of course knew what those 'sessions' actually did to Eric and he started sweating.

Emma grinned like an evil maniac and said " I will let you off this time but don't expect me to be generous again."

They ordered some dishes and chatted about their training.

After dining, they set off again to their destination, but Emma and Ariel insisted on traveling together with Darell and Lilith.

As they were traveling, Darell was sleeping with his head on Emma's lap and she was stroking his hair.

Emma asked, " Do you have anyone you like, Lilith?"

Lilith shook her head and said " I don't have anyone I like. I will find someone when I am strong enough. For now, I want to get stronger and fight beside my brother." 

She had a solemn expression.

Only she knew Darell had a system and everyone in the world would kill him to obtain it.

Emma and Ariel shrugged.

After a few hours, they reached the capital gates where they were halted by the guards. The carriage was searched and they were given the go-ahead.

They stopped at another Inn and rested for the day.

As the test would be conducted tomorrow, they rested for a couple of hours and explored the royal capital.

Later, they dined together and retired to their rooms, and slept.

The next day, 

Darell woke up and took a bath and checked his equipment and put on new clothes. 

All of them met outside the Inn and they walked towards the Academy.

The Varona Royal Academy held the test every year which invited hundreds of thousands of participants who hoped to change their lives.

Only a few hundred people passed this test but it didn't lessen the enthusiasm of the participants as they knew the rewards and benefits they would obtain if they managed to enroll in the Academy.

Today, as usual, they were hundreds of thousands of participants waiting for their turn.

As they entered, the crowd separated and all eyes were on them as they walked through the crowd.

Being a member of a noble family brought several certain privileges they could obtain in the Academy.

The instructor, officiating the test was an old man who looked like a frail person.

Darell recognized the man and greeted him.

"If it isn't Uncle Lin, what are you doing here? I thought you were on planet Nebros."

The old man opened his eyes and examined him from top to bottom and nodded his head.

"To think that the snotty brat I saw back in the day would obtain the Space ability."

He shook his head.

Darell flipped his hair and said, " Being this handsome, I was likely to obtain some awesome ability which I did."

Emma glared at him.

Darell quickly changed his tone and said " Of course, I have to meet the requirements of courting our kingdom's top beauty."

He looked at Emma who was blushing and sighed in relief.

"Nice save, brother." Lilith giggled and whispered in his ear.

Uncle Lin was about to speak when he was interrupted by a voice.

" Guys! "

All of them turned in the direction of the voice.

Ariel ignored him and the others paid little attention to him.

Eric was startled by the reaction and asked " What's wrong?"

Nobody answered him.

Darell shook his head and ordered him to talk to Ariel.

Ariel kept ignoring him.

When he tried to talk to her, she looked at the old man and said " When are the special tests going to be held for us?"

He replied, " Go to Instructor Walter and he will be the examiner for you."

All of them walked toward Instructor Walter who was busy arranging paperwork.

He noticed the group walking toward him and recognized them.

"Ah! If it isn't the Famous Five."

They were startled.

Darell said " Sir, we are here for the special test. "

They handed out the letter and gave it to him. He kept the letters in a drawer and said " Follow me."

They followed him and they were brought to a hall containing many doors.

"All of you will go through different doors and there will be an Instructor waiting for you.

Don't worry. This is just a formality."

All of them were led to a different door and they entered it.

Darell took a deep breath and walked through it.
