"Lise." Gei put three flame wolf cores on her counter. Lise closed her eyes, and mumbled a few words, which Gei ignored as she was used to this as Lise had mumbled more than once when she brought her the salt and the fish.

"Hello, Gei. Three flame wolf cores, two rank one, and one rank two. Rank two cores are usually larger, and have a deeper color. Sixty silver each for the rank ones, and eighty for the rank two." Lise put twenty large silver on the counter. "You don't know how much we appreciate when you do this for us." She said. Gei tilted her head. "Everyone is normally reluctant to anger them, the Griels, so the hunters go elsewhere. Now, business is relatively profitable. I can make a living again." Gei nodded.

"Greedy. Lot to hunt. Not good people." She said with a growl.

"Correct. Don't go back, Gei. It's an evil place."

"Gei know. Need boots. Short." Gei said to Lise. Lise lifted an eyebrow. "What?"

"Gei, you're wearing rags. You need clothes too. You've brought in flame wolves, right?" Gei nodded. "Then you hunt. Which means, at a minimum, you should wear leather. Do you live nearby?"

"Wasteland." Gei said and watched her cheek twitch.

"Of all places." Lise said quietly. "On the wasteland, things get a little weird. During the summer, it's very hot. In the winter, it's really cold. Lots of snow and ice. Should have soft leather for the summer, and something to put inside it, as well as a coat."

"Don't like cold. Oh. Firewood!"

"Yep, you'll need to get enough to keep your warm in the winter. You should think about door coverings, if you are in a place like that." Lise said.

"Clothes. Leather. Wool, cotton. Thick. Lot food. Root. Grain. Cheese. Salt, Lise need, tell Gei. Snow, travel hard." Gei said.

"It will be hard to travel in the winter for you. As long as it's cool in a storage room, you should be able to preserve food. Salt the meat, or the fish. Root veg is easy to keep good in a cold area, but may rot or shrivel. If it shrivels, add cold water, and they will firm back up. When meat dries, there is a skin that looks terrible. Cut that part off, and the red meat will show again. You can cook it, and salt it so that it dries out, like jerky, but you'll need to boil it to soften to eat." Lise said.

"Salt Lise need?" Gei asked again. Lise blushed a bit.

"Two bags a week. That will allow me to put enough aside for the winter, when you can't get to town." Lise said. Gei pursed her lips.

"Enough? Bring more easy." Gei said. Lise sighed a bit more.

"Fine. Four sacks. It won't be used up right away, but once fall hits, it will sell out. Your salt is a lot better than the Griels from the mines." Lise took out a piece of wood. "Come. Put your foot on this. I'll trace it and get Ern to make your boots." Lise grumbled under her breath.

"Now that you're eating, you'll grow a bit, so we'll make your clothes a bit bigger so you won't grow out of them right away." Gei frowned, but then smiled as Lise continued.

"What kind of parents starve their daughter? Nuggets of beast shit parents, that's what kind."

Gei returned to her new home, and remade the air holes. Once they were properly made, with an outlet pushing the stale air out, and one letting air in on the opposite side of the room, she felt the air clear.

"Get chilly winter. Need stove. Kitchen." She smiled as she looked around the room. It was one full sized room and she could easily sleep there safely.

"Home. Real home. Safe." Gei formed a bench out of her stone bricks, and sat down. She had to alter it to hold the lamps, put shelves for her stuff, including the boots she would soon have, and expand it for her food.

"Don't get caught by its charge!" The guard yelled out as he took his grapple to swing to another tree. The one he hid behind now leaned towards his old hiding place.

"How the hell did we get caught up with an iron tusked boar?" Another guard shouted, and sent an arrow towards the boar. It deflected off the boy plates that lined its spine.

"You idiot! Aim for the flanks, or eyes! Swing! Swing to another tree, you fool!" By the time the archer got over the fact that his arrow bounced off the boar, it was already on its way towards the tree he was in.

"Get ready to shoot! His tree is going down!" The leader of the small group shouted.

Why did they get caught out here doing this? It was a suicide mission, and important that they succeed. They couldn't kill it, but they knew that already. However, if they failed, the rampaging boar would continue on its way to Stormwall. They only had to deflect it, or sate its murderous temper right now.

"Hurk!" The tree landed, the guard had the wind knocked out of him, and the boar leisurely walked over. It had him in its sights, and was going to put the final nail in his wooden coffin.

He heard a squeal. The guard tentatively lifted his head as it sounded like a squeal of pain, or fear. As he lifted his head, an insane amount of flame essence flashed by his location, and the boar skidded away on its side.

"Stupid pig." He heard a childish voice say as she flashed by again. The girl picked up a stone larger than herself, lifted it over her head and walked over to the boar.

"Lise friend. Ern friend. Hurt Gei friends? Gei hurt you."

"Steward, head over to Ern's blacksmith shop. See if you can purchase a section of that iron tusked boar." The governor said. "One large one for the king's tribute, and one we'll serve here." The steward bowed.

"I'll get right on it." He left the room, as he knew full well that the main reason he was sent was to confirm the story of the guards. The meat was secondary.

"Thoughts?" The governor asked. The hidden guard stayed silent for a minute or so, but the governor was patient.

"Killed the boar because Lise and Ern were here. Those were her concerns. No one else. Not her former family, nor the rest of the people, other than maybe that herbalist." The guard said quietly. "The Griel clan is most likely to make a move soon."

"True. Three people we have to make sure those fools don't rip off, and make sure the guards treat them fairly. She is unlikely to tolerate behavior similar to her old family from them, so just treat them fairly." The governor pursed his lips. "I wonder if they will go to that old lunatic." The guard snorted.

"Double edged blade. They might be that stupid though. I wonder what story they will concoct." The guard returned to his duties, standing quietly in the shadows, ready to move should the need arise.

"Yes, what story indeed."
