Chapter 1: The Awakening

Kingdom of Theanad, the main castle:

A young man, Prince Leon of Theanad, is sitting on his private balcony. His eyes are gazing upon the bright city lights below the castle, which is located on a remote mountain near the city.

"The view is beautiful as always." - Leon sighed, closing his eyes and enjoying the cold breeze.

Prince Leon of Theanad, the only son of King Aubert, Ruler of Theanad. Although the title may sound great, it's nothing but trouble. The kingdom has been struggling to keep up its power, slowly declining in overall strength. Because of this fact, the pressure on the leaders were sky-high.

In this world, where the strong set the rules, power is everything. But how does one gain power? Well, there are multiple ways. May it be financial strength, influence or anything that has a direct impact on the world. However, there is one form of power that stands out the most. One that everyone has, may it be weak or strong. "Ability", something that unlocks supernatural interactions.

Every living being is born with some sort of ability. It can be as simple as creating a small spark, or as complex as summoning multiple strikes of lightning. However, the time of awakening may differ. It can happen after being born, or 30 years after. 

The Rulers of the world are the ones, that either have incredible abilities, or the ones that are descendants of legendary ability wielders.

"I'm already 20 and have yet to awaken. Isn't this a bit cruel? After everything that I had to go through?" - Leon asked ironically, speaking to himself.

That may be true. Although he is a prince, his reputation is not the best. Known as the 'Useless Prince' who has no ability, Leon had many struggles in life. Because of his Kingdoms weak reputation, he grew up without any friends. At social gatherings, the strong ability wielders made fun of him, attempting to impress everyone by showing off their own strength. His mother left his father, leaving them behind for a 'stronger' man. 

His father, the only supportive individual in Leons life, also didn't have an extraordinary ability. His ability is to summon  a dragon out of lightning. Although this may be impressive in itself, it can barely be compared to the abilities of other rulers.  It's obvious that the kingdom does not exist because of the current ruler, but because of the previous one.

Leons grandfather was able to manipulate flames to an extreme extend, establishing the now declining kingdom of Theanad.

Leon then got up from his chair and walked towards the edge.

"My patience is slowly coming to an end. If it takes me another few years to awaken, I won't be able to take revenge on everyone who has wronged us. All I want is to see my father smile again. I can't help him if I stay useless like this. So please, I pray once more, hear this voice and grant me my only wish!" - Leon shouted into the mountains, standing on the edge with his arms wide open.

"Huh?" - He asked himself, surprised by the sudden feeling in his chest.

"I can feel it! This has to be an awakening!" - He continued, baffled by what was happening. He couldn't believe that he was awakening at such a time. 'This can't be a coincidence, right?'  was his first thought.

However, the thought quickly diminished. An extreme pain was emmersing from his chest, forcing Leon to his knees.   What is this pain?!

His breathing became abnormal, the body temperature started rising and his mind went blank. No...focus! This is the opportunity of a life time, don't mess this up! Leon resisted the pain by trying to distract himself. That's right, my revenge. It's all possible now, so endure it!

A few painful minutes passed and the pain started to disappear slowly. Leon, still unable to get a full grasp of the situation, was lying on the ground. His sweat formed a small pool around him. His clothes were fully wet and his body was still shaking. However, curiosity got the better of him. There was no way he'd go to sleep before finding out what his ability was.

"This...was an awakening, right? It has to be. What else would it be anyways?" - He asked himself, staring at his still shaking hands.

He then remembered something his father told him. 'After awakening, you will naturally know what your ability is.'  is what his father told him when Leon was younger. Naturally know what my ability is? But I don't feel anything.

Leon got up, slowly recovering from the exhaustion. 

"Hiyaaa!" - He screamed, while pointing towards the mountains.

Well...maybe I can't shoot stuff. What else could I try out?

With this thought, multiple hours have passed in which Leon tried to find out what his abilities were.  From trying to summon something, all the way to manipulating gravity. He tried to replicate moves he has seen others perform, but to no avail. After all these hours, he still didn't know what his ability was.

Disappointed, he sat down on his chair again, trying to think of another way. This can't be happening. I thought I'd naturally know  what my ability is? Don't tell me that I have to spend my next few years to try and find out what my ability is.

He then relaxed and turned towards a flower pot next to him. I wonder what flower I should put in here? Maybe an Alyssum?  Wouldn't that fit in nicely?

Seconds after Leon finished that thought, the soil inside the flower pot started moving. Huh?

....

...

A...Alyssum? You can't be serious, right? Leon continued staring at the flower, slowly realizing as to what has happened.

"You have to be joking, right?!" - He screamed into the midnight.
