Standing behind Kay was a young lady with a despicable look on her face.

"You little criminals are still trying? Even if nothing else happens, the hero will kill all of you!"

Kay turned around, playing with the knife in his hand. It swung around smoothly, like a pencil, twirling between his fingers. The lady was dressed in a fresh, clean uniform, with several badges clattering as she moved. Looking down at her, Kay took a step closer.

"For an upholder of justice, you don't look very heroic."

Her face scrunched up as she glared at the young boy. She found the situation almost comical, insignificant—like Kay was nothing more than a flea. With a disgusted look in her eyes, she scoffed at the boy.

"Little cockroaches like you don't deserve my graciousness!"

Saliva flew out of her mouth, splattering straight onto Kay's face. A subtle yet noticeable stench of alcohol came with it. Calmly wiping the spit from his face, he stared at the lady.

"Don't you think that you should behave more elegantly?"

"Haa? More elegantly?" she suddenly burst out laughing, "Little cockroach, as I said before, I don't show pity nor understanding to insects~."

A few other officers entered the building. Several old men dressed in large, flamboyant police uniforms walked up, looking down at the boy with repugnance. In a deep, patronising voice, one of the officers mocked the boy.

"Look at you. You're filthy. This is why I hate this job; I have to deal with sickening things like you."

"But the pay's great!" the lady added.

"Aha! The pay certainly is great!"

Finally, the officers had had enough of making fun of Kay. The lady walked up to him, grabbing him by the ear.

"Come on. Your life is over, little cockroach!"

Suddenly, Kay swung his knife. However, it connected with nothing but air. Although, it managed to force the lady to jump back and dodge.

She started giggling.

"My my, we've got a feisty one here."

Sensing that the situation was unwinnable, Kay swiftly turned and began running toward Melanie and her mother. To everyone's surprise, he was prepared to finish his mission.

Kicking the mother away, he snatched her daughter, slinging her over his shoulder.

"Aah! Put me down!" she screamed and kicked as Kay held onto her.

However, sprinting toward the back door, he completely ignored everyone else. His loud footsteps echoed through the room as he charged towards the door.

"Shit! Chase him!" the officer shouted.

Kay Rudiless was close to perfection when it came to physical ability. Compared to these slightly-overweight, have-been officers, he was on another level. Even with Melanie slung over his shoulder, the officers still couldn't catch up. Kicking straight through the door, he ran onto the street, weaving between the road and the footpath.

"Fuck, don't let him get away!"

Another glowing dot appeared on Kay's map. The officers were frantically chasing him. However, he managed to significantly increase the distance between them. After sprinting around a few blocks, he escaped through a small alleyway, comfortably losing the officers for the time being.

The designated location wasn't that far away, it seemed.

Hurrying, Kay quickly made his way toward the designated location. He took a relatively discrete path, trying to avoid going back into sight of the officers. Wind blew past his face as he picked up the pace, running toward the yellow dot on the map.

He could feel the young girl struggling, trying to escape his grasp. However, she didn't have anywhere near enough strength to do so. A few minutes later, after sprinting through the darkness of the night, Kay arrived at the designated location.

He found himself standing in front of a large building. It was hard to distinguish what it was in the dark, but it had a clearly run-down appearance. Taking the girl up to the door, he noticed that the mission was still incomplete.

"Help!" the girl screamed.

However, there was no one nearby to help her. The officers had already completely lost them, too far away to even hear her scream.

Kay knocked on the door.

A few moments later, following the sound of footsteps, the door clicked open.

A man appeared.

"Good job, we'll take it from her."

"Oh, alright then."

"Don't worry. We're not going to do anything bad to her. We'll just be using her as a hostage. We'll also deal with the police situation, so you don't have to worry about it. I'll make sure they don't continue pursuing you."

"Anyways, you're Kay Rudiless, right?"

"Yes."

"You'll be transferring to Elaine Academy tomorrow. Here's some money. Find a motel to stay at for the night. Transport will be organised for you the next morning, so be prepared."

The man took Melanie and gave Kay a stack of banknotes.

"Sleep well. The world is counting on you."

"Huh?"

The door slammed closed.

After receiving his attribute increases, Kay began going down the street, searching for a motel or an inn. It was pretty late at night, so he decided to search further away from the area he was in, walking toward a wealthier section of the city.

I'm transferring to Elaine Academy? Was that a school nearby? I guess I'll think more about it tomorrow.

I hope, once this is all over, I'll be able to see Maia again.
