The next day, under the bright summer sun, Kay Rudiless stood within a crowd of students. He found himself at a school which was in an entirely different city from the one he stayed at last night. The drive was almost two hours, forcing him to wake up before dawn.
A large message was posted on a sign at the entrance—Elaine Academy Entrance Exam.
[Mission Assigned]
[Recieve a rank of #10 or higher in the academic entrance exam]
[Part 1/1]
[Time Remaining: N/A]
[Failure to Complete: Death]
Looks like there's a bigger punishment this time.
Slowly, the massive group of students began being funnelled into a meeting area. From every direction, people walked over, joining the already oversized crowd. Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a young girl approached Kay. He didn't take notice of it until she tapped him on the back.
"Hi~"
Kay turned around, confused.
"Who are you?"
"Ah, I guess they didn't tell you about me, then."
"I'm not following?"
Doing a little twirl and then a curtsy, the pretty girl spread the faint aroma of her perfume. As her hair swayed in the air, she looked down at Kay.
"I'm Shiina, your supervisor... I guess you could describe me as."
"My supervisor? Were you sent by the facility?"
"Bingo, that's right! I'm here to ensure you don't go out of control."
"What do you mean to 'ensure I don't go out of control'?"
"Well, to make sure you don't go crazy and forget your mission."
Kay looked at the girl who was trying to do some sort of 'cute' pose. She was a few centimetres shorter than him, but she still looked down at him teasingly. Her hair was brown, with an unnatural, faint tint of purple.
"I don't need a supervisor."
"Ah, That's where you're wrong!"
She poked him in the nose. However, she quickly retracted her hand as he seemed to have an unpleasant look on his face.
"Whilst you're meant to be a villain, your true mission is to defeat the hero. This means that if I see you doing stuff unrelated to that, I'll have to reprimand you. For example~ if you spend too much time playing around..., especially with girls... then I'll have to do something about it~"
She held her body in a suggestive manner.
"I don't believe that you'd be able to stop me."
"Oh? Are you underestimating me because I'm a girl?"

Suddenly, loud feedback penetrated through the air, followed by the sound of the principal speaking through the microphone. The conversation between Kay and Shiina was abruptly ended.
The principal spoke confidently to the crowd.
"Welcome. Thank you for choosing to participate in the Elaine entrance exams for 2028. Before we let you in, I would like to tell all of you about this. Elaine Academy is an incredibly prestigious and highly competitive school. We have over 300 years of history, and we have produced many talented people. I would just like to explain the process of our selection.
Firstly, there is an academic exam which involves three main sections: mathematics, literacy and science. We are a school which prides itself in not only having the strongest but the smartest students. The results of this exam will be distributed within one hour of completion. After this stage, the top 150 students will be admitted.
Secondly, once you are admitted into the school, you will then undergo a combat and talent examination. With that and your academic exam, you will be ranked from #1 to #150. With that rank, you will be treated accordingly.
As you all know, this is a boarding school with no tuition fee. For everyone who wants a spot in our school, I wish you luck."
With that, the principal stepped off the platform.
Kay looked over at Shiina.
"What happens if you don't get into this school? You won't be able to supervise me, will you?"
She smiled before responding.
"Ah, well, if I don't make it in, then yeah, I would have no way to supervise you. However, that won't happen."
"You're pretty confident."
"Mhm, I'm not just a pretty girl, you know?"
Kay didn't seem convinced.
"I came from the same facility you did. Although I wasn't part of your program," she continued.
"That doesn't prove that you're smart. There were lots of failures there."
"Aha~ are you calling me a failure?" she giggled, "let's take a look at the results afterwards, then!"
Before long, the giant crowd of students began being funnelled into the stadium-like exam hall. The chatter quickly dispersed and was filled with the tense sound of silence. As he entered the air-conditioned exam hall, all he could see were countless rows of tables, with the exam placed on top.
This school must be quite popular.
Kay took a seat, observing the exam that was placed face-down on his desk. It was quite a thick booklet, giving reference to the length of the test. He couldn't help but notice the stress and anxiety of the students around him. However, he himself was not stressed whatsoever, even with the punishment of death looming over his head.
A few minutes later, every student in the hall was seated.
"Before we begin. You will have a total of four hours to complete the entire exam. You may move on to the next section whenever you feel; there is no designated time for doing so. You may not leave the exam venue until the end of the time. Please use either an HB or 2B pencil..."
Eventually, the instructions concluded, and the clock hit 10 am.
The exam hall was filled with the sound of paper flipping as thousands of students all opened their booklets at the same time. Kay looked at the front of the exam booklets for a little while before eventually opening it as well.
The students around him immediately held their heads in their hands. With sweat slowly forming on their foreheads, it was clear that they weren't prepared for the immense difficulty. All that could be heard was the sound of pencil scratching as students began filling out their answer sheets.
Dread spread throughout the exam hall.
