Novel

The novel starts with the female lead walking in a beautiful midnight ball gown. It was a layered net gown with lace off-shoulder sleeves. Her smooth pink hair was left open with only a braid at the side of her head. She had caught the eye of everyone in the ballroom as any other typical fairy-tale setting.

Everyone surrounded her as they praised her beauty and determination to live life normally as her curse was known by all. Astelle hated that. She couldn’t control herself and her emotions, so she fled the room. No one noticed though.

They never did.

By the time she came back everything was normal. The girls who were attending the age-of-coming ceremony for themselves danced away. All, of course, except the female lead. She was surrounded by the four male leads. Then...

All of a sudden!

“MY LADY!” Marianne screamed with a hint of worry in her voice as she waved her hand in front of my face. I flinched at the loud sound and looked at her with a look that spoke ‘What the fuck, Marianne?’

We’re in my room, as I’m sitting at the dressing table and she’s preparing me for the day. So, I gave her that look from the mirror and assuming she saw it.

“You have been very distracted my lady, I’m just worried. I apologise if I was too loud but that was the only way to break you out of your haze,” she frowned.

‘Ever since that day from the attempted assassination she has been different, is... she traumatised?! Of course! My lady has never seen someone die! My poor lady she’s such a brave lady, she doesn’t need to be so mature, she’s still

16!’ Marianne teared up.

I sighed, yet another one of her moods. She’s such an emotional person, how did she become a maid of Astelle’s?

It’s been a few days since we received news of the age-of-coming ceremony. Marianne has been pestering me non-stop that I need to get healthy in time for the ball.

She’s planning to take me gown shopping in a few days, I already know the dress I’ll choose. However, she won’t shut up about how pretty I’ll look. I know I will, but this is too much adoration. I’m not used to it.

“Why are you crying this time?” I said the maid, turning around slightly. She sniffles, “My lady is far too mature for her age,”

Well...duh.

I shook my head in disapproval, yet I felt a small smile appear on my face. I’ve been smiling way too much to be Astelle.

“My lady, please don’t do that,” Marianne said suddenly seriously. I raised an eyebrow to tell her to elaborate on what she meant.

“When you smile, you tend to put it away right after. Don’t do that.

Lord Asterion and Sir Asterion would love to see you smile once more; you know that?” Marianne smiled as she finished up my hair and put her hands on my shoulders. “You look far prettier when you smile, and you haven’t smiled a lot in the 16 years you’ve lived. So, you must catch up on those smiles!” She said walking back for me to get up.

I get lost in thought again as I head to the sofas in my room and sat in the middle.

I wonder why didn’t she speak to Astelle before about this? Maybe Astelle wouldn’t have given up so easily if she knew someone cared about her.

Oh well. No use questioning it now.

Knock Knock

I looked at the door from the side of my eye. Wonder who that is, no one ever comes to my room except the maids. “Come in, it’s open,” I say loud enough for the person behind the door to hear. The door handle goes down and the door opens.

It was the butler from before! When I saw Sirius in the library. I stand up and he bows. He’s standing by the side of the door.

“My lady, Duke Asterion wishes to see you in his office,” he says sophisticatedly. His office? Why?

The Butler turned around, opened the door and left while closing the door. Weird man. Does he hate me too?

Marianne looked expectantly at me, I raised an eyebrow, “What is it? Why are you looking at me like that?” She grinned, “Ever since you changed, you’ve been more open, you occasionally make small talk with Sir Asterion and Lord Asterion has noticed, maybe he wants to talk to you too!”

I scoff, “Father is not a man of small talk, you should know from how long you have remained here” for reasons I don’t know why. Astelle was a pain to take care of and Marianne was the one who stuck the longest. Maybe she’s that patient?

She smiled and held my hand, “Let us go, My lady!” She was really excited. She left my hand as we left the safe haven that is my room. The hallways are pretty just as the mansion is. I reached the office of the duke’s.

Once again, my body led me to the room without me even noticing. This is a good skill though, who knows what would’ve happened if I didn’t know the layout of my own house.

They’d definitely suspect something was up. I wonder what the duke wants. It’s been about 2 weeks since the library talk with Sirius and life hasn’t been tough. There’s been nothing to test that I’m not Astelle. However, it’s too easy.

I have a bad feeling about this meeting with the duke...
