I finally got through the gates, the last few humans squeezing in with me. There was a line of Feka checking for spies as we filtered by. They roughly grabbed shirts to check logos and looked in our eyes for any trace of red. "All slaves, report to the slave bunker immediately! All slaves, report to the slave bunkers immediately!" a large Feka shouted out repeatedly, pushing people toward the base of the ramp. I broke free from the throng, heading toward the ramp. I needed to get to the smithy and drop this ingredient off.
At the top of the ramp, the scene was just as chaotic. Cats with bows ran everywhere, jumping off the first level of the settlement and sprinting to their positions on the wall. I saw the gleaming bow tree wood sparkling on their backs with its gold specs as they ran past on all fours. I went to the wall and glanced at the attacking foe.
In the front, a pack of bulky pitbull-looking monsters were barking enthusiastically. They wore spiked collars and had teeth that protruded up the sides of their faces, almost like piranhas. Their fur was greyish-black and streaked with red. Beady eyes glared at us, ready to attack at a moment's notice.
Behind them was a pack of around fifteen stalkers. They looked the same as I remembered; dark brown fur and a face like an elongated wolf. They were double the size of the Earth variety, some standing tall on two legs. They howled madly behind the pit bulls, edging them into a frantic frenzy. The laughing continued from the pack of hyenas to the left, and I saw them for the first time. They looked like the Earth equivalent but were smaller. The hyenas were on all four legs and looked around wildly, seemingly excited to join the chaos of battle. They wore creepy expressions on their faces, almost smiling in anticipation.
Finally, in the rear were creatures resembling the cave bear. They had enormous bodies and helmets on their heads. Their fur was brown and not as shaggy as the mecho was. They looked more like grizzly bears than polar bears. They stood there silently, looking into the night, not making a sound.
All in all, a terrifying sight. I turned away from the wall, heading to find Romas. Cats and humans jostled me as I ran down the alleyways, the fur ingredient slowing me down. At the smithy, Romas was strapping on a gold-streaked leather chest plate. It had a similar threadwork to the Baron's straps and was no less embellished.
"Slave! Where have you been? Get this strapped on me immediately, then head to the slave bunker," he ordered, noticing me standing there.
"Typh killed the mecho in the cave, sir, and wanted me to deliver this to you. It's the ingredient the monster left behind."
"Yes, yes. Throw it in that stack over there with the other armor ingredients." He pointed to the back corner, leather and fur remnants stacked in a pile.
"Right away, sir." I walked over and helped him with his breastplate, then dropped the fur in the corner as he instructed. I continued acting as his slave since an invasion was about to start. I would worry about the rest later when I had help from Typh and the Baron.
Once Romas finished adorning his armor, he grabbed a massive longsword and headed out into the night. The barking sounds were getting quieter now; something was about to happen outside the walls. I looked around, making sure no one was left in the smithy. I looked at my arm. My mana read [16/21]. That should work.
I grabbed some light fur from the stack, listening to it with my 'CREATE' skill. The fur pelt wanted to mold my upper body and protect me. I let it change, the external hardening creeping up my chest. It wrapped around my sides and over my back, completing at the shoulders. The armor sat there, tight on my body and fitting perfectly, keeping a grey hue and matching the fur's color. I inspected it, seeing the result of my creation.

I was glad this was only a level 1 item because I needed more ammo for my slingshot. I reached under my bed and pulled out the silver ammo but paused. The Baron had mentioned something about making ammo with the red ore. Curious, I swapped the ores in my hand, looking the red rocks over carefully. If this worked, I had eleven mana left and could make ammo out of both ores, so I let the rock speak to me.
The ore lit a fire in my mind, a deep and burning heat. It didn't hurt; only let me know of its fiery power. I sat this way for a moment, enjoying the heating sensation. When the feeling faded, I looked down at my hand. Sitting there were five glowing red pellets.
[NEW MAGIC TYPE UNLOCKED - FIRE]
Fire magic? Things kept getting more interesting. Outside the blacksmith window, I heard the sound of yelling, possibly from a canine general or multiple generals. This part of the city was quiet, with all the humans hiding and the Fekan warriors assembled at the front of the settlement by now. The Feka were yelling battle cries and roaring on the walls, the howling picking up again.
I needed to hurry. I inspected the new pellets I had made.
[TINDER PELLET SLINGSHOT AMMO X5]
I quickly put them in my left pocket, the right pocket reserved for the air magic. What would these do if the air magic could stun the canine beasts? And the air was called Wynd, the fire called Tinder. I would have to investigate what that meant later.
I grabbed my silver ore, repeating the previous process and making five Wynd pellets. I had six total now, using four in my two battles—eleven total shots against an army of Shadowalkers. I sighed deeply, feeling like my contributions wouldn't be enough, my mana now depleted.
I walked into the empty street wearing my new armor and looked around. I knew my best impact on the battle would be finding a place to hide and shoot at the Shadowalkers. If they saw me, I would be easy prey for them. My whole body was shaking, impacted by the sounds around the city's walls. It felt as though my blood was cold, even though I was sweating again.
On this city level was a tower with a window facing the courtyard below. I jogged toward it, dodging in and out of alleyways. A horn sounded, and the giant bear monsters ran full boar at the walls on all fours. When they impacted the wall, an explosive thud echoed into the night air, the wall shaking violently and stones flying into the air. The Feka responded with growls and roars, shooting at them with their bows. The bears retreated, now riddled with arrows. When they got to the top of the hill, they turned and ran toward the walls again, slower this time. The crash on the wall was effective in two spots, cracking the stone and sending Feka jumping away.
The hyenas ran in, fast and agile, toward the wall before the Feka could recover. They grabbed chunks of rock and stood on their powerful rear legs, running away from the impact site. The bowman tried to take them down, but they were fast, most scrambling out of the way. With two sections opened up, more howls filled the air, and the pit bulls ran toward the wall, ready to attack the city.
