I struggled to pull the sword out of the first inquisitor, while the second began to walk towards me with a menacing gait.
“Did you honestly think it was going to be that easy?” the inquisitor spoke with a voice that did not match their female body. They spoke with the voice of that drunkard Salem. “Makeup and an oversized poncho? And having a man seduce me? Honestly, what kind of fool do you take me for?” He...she...it laughed.
“Seemed to work pretty well if you ask me!” I yanked the blade out of the corpse and stood my ground. “Your drunk ass fell for it, hook line and sinker!” Also dick move calling Josie a man, especially coming from a man wearing women’s armor...
“Guess you never did check your own pocket, did you?” He wagged his finger.
I exhaled a snide laugh, “the hell’s that supposed to mean?” I reached into the pocket of my poncho and found a round object. Pulling it out, I saw a blinking light. “What the hell is this?”
“That’s a tracker my dear, made special by some of the brightest minds in the order.” He spoke so condescending, as if I had fallen into his trap. No, I did fall into his trap. I tossed the little blinking orb into the sewage bellow, and after a moment of consideration I lowered my sword. “Surrendering? Smart move kid. Let’s not make this a bloodier affair than it has to be.”
“Gabby use your gale!” I shouted and dragged the sword into the dirt below my feet. She answered my cry and blew up a maelstrom of sand following the path I made with the sword. Knowing that would not blind him for long, thanks to those damn helmets, I made a tactical retreat. No, I didn’t run away! It’s a real strategy...
Reli had already begun running, but I was able to catch up to her fast. She ran as hard as her legs could bring her, but it was pretty clear to me that she hadn’t had to run much in her life. I grabbed her hand, and led her down a back alley, obviously I wasn’t about to run straight for the safe house with that bastard following us, had to lose them first. Together we took twists and turns, ran through townsfolk and livestock, till we came out a couple streets away from our target.
Reli was out of breath, practically choking as she gasped for air. I stopped for a moment, so she could catch her breath, though I was good myself. I looked around the corner, and then out another alley, no sign of any inquisitors, Salem or otherwise. Reli fell to her bum, back against a wall, and cried.
“Hey kiddo, you okay?” I patted her head lightly as I kneeled down next to her.
She shook her head, tears and snot pouring out.
“Hey, come on kiddo, I’m here for you.” I wrapped an arm around her shoulder and leaned my head on hers. “You can talk to big sis Shana.”
She sniffled, and wiped her arm across her face, “I feel awful. I’ve been hurting everybody. Josie, Miki. It’s just that everything is so complicated.” She said while still sobbing with each word. “I love them both so much, but I...” she began to whimper into a full-blown cry again.

“Hey, I get it, I mean sort of,” I pulled her closer, “I still don’t know what happened, but you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
She rubbed her nose and wiped her eyes again. “Thanks mi.. thanks Shana.”
“Anytime kiddo.” We sat there for a minute or two, giving her as much time as I could really to collect herself and what not, before getting back up.
“Oh, Miki! I left her, I hope she doesn’t hate me. I feel so awful!”
“I’m right here, sweetie, and no I don’t hate you.” Miki spoke from her carta that I almost forgot I was holding onto.
“Oh shit, yeah here you go!” I pulled her out of my pocket and handed the carta over to its rightful owner.
“Thanks. I’m sorry Miki, I didn’t...No I did mean to, but I am sorry.”
“I forgive you Reli, I’m sorry too.” Miki responded, her voice just a tad bit shaky, like she was going to cry. “I won’t stop you if you truly want to pursue a relationship with Josie. Please though, be careful sweetie.”
“I will...” Reli sniffled, I’m pretty certain she was going to start crying again.
“Hey, love that y’all made up, but we need to get back, like fast.” I said, not really wanting to break up the touching moment, but you know... Inquisitors!
Reli nodded, and we continued our run back to the safe house.
