A collection of Letters to the High Priestess From an Inquisitorial officer
To commander Ban Ada of the Knights of Ada.
The letters are more damaged from here on out, though I got as much as I could out of them. I wonder how much of the damage was purposeful… Was the church hiding something or was it the doing of the former High Priestess elect? It is frustrating, knowing that the answers may be lost forever, so instead I try to allow myself to question and learn from the content we do have. I think you’ll find these to be some of the most interesting to speculate about, Ban, though the final letter is perhaps the most significant of them all.
---Fifth Letter---
5th day of the 4th month, 1828
To the High Priestess elect,
There has been a singular voice, calling out louder than all the others, she knows my name… Jacob brings me comfort… famine has been harsh… she brought relief when we were hungry… [DES]1…
1: I think the word here may have been Goddess, though there’s so much missing I can’t confirm it. It is likely she was saying a prayer/asking for prayer. She may have been cursing the goddess for allowing her to fall into hard times. Honestly I can’t know for sure. Though there is another possibility, I will save such speculations for later.
---Sixth Letter---

To the High Priestess elect,
I have grown close to [JACOB]… Forgive me, I am with [CHILD]… [SHE] has gone away once more… The malice is on the horizon… the voice grows louder… I’ve done what I have to do, may the Goddess forgive me, as I pray you do as well…
As I said these letters are fragmented, and some of the words there are my own interpretation, based on context. I believe however, that it is clear that the Inquisitor, who I hadn’t realized was a woman till this point, eloped with this man Jacob. The other parts I can only make so much out… If I were to be so bold as to speculate, reports given at the time said that a famine worse than had been seen in years in the first circle had left many starving and without a means to earn money due to their livestock dying off. The church reported the cause of the famine to be the Witch Queen, though from the scraps of clues I can read here, as well as the stories told by the people of the outer circles, the Witch Queen actually traveled the Wastes feeding the people who were left starving.
Furthermore, I’d speculate that while she was traveling, she had to leave Sydonia and her followers went with her. This would mean there was no witch there to protect them when the Malice manifested, and brought the Malefic with it. I think it may be possible that our Inquisitor in question here, became a witch herself to protect Sydonia from the Malefic.
I am unsure if there are letters missing in between these, though based on her words, I think she had gone some time without contact. This next letter I have grouped with these as it helps fill in some of the gaps from the previous two, though not entirely. I do wish these letters were not in as bad condition as they are, but to have them at all is a blessing in a way.
---Seventh Letter---
9th day of the 11th month, 1828
To the High Priestess,
First I would like to congratulate you on your canonization. It warms my heart to have learned you are now the proper high priestess. Though in regards to my recent letters, I know you have grown worried, and I am sorry for that. I should be more honest and upright with you. I have been on this mission for almost a year now, not counting when I first left the abbey, and you have placed so much trust upon me. I have done it, I have spoken with her. I have dined with her. She has begun to trust me. To gain that trust, I have sinned against the church. I have become a [WITCH]
That of course confirmed my suspicions. While not entirely unheard of among the church, we both know the consequence of such a sin. There is no indication that anything has been cut off from the letter I found, I am amazed but this seemed to be the least damaged letter, that is except for the final letter I found. One last interesting note, while in other places the lack of signature was due to damage, for this last one I believe she has intentionally left out her signature. I don’t know why, but I do believe it may have something to do with stories involving the Witch Queen giving her followers new names. The old names would become dead to the person, and it would not make sense for her to sign a letter by a name the receiver would not recognize. Perhaps at this point, she decided that the Priestess would know it was her on merit alone. I have just one last letter for you to read, I would love to find more, if they exist. Should I find these rhetorical letters I will absolutely send them to you at the earliest and safest convenience.
