Jet carefully sneaks over to the edge of the wall, and carefully pokes his head out to peek at the gate, and there, he sees a fairly large caravan arguing with the guards.
“...have to believe us! A pack of giant wolves attacked us, and when we tried to defend ourselves, they squashed our guards like ants! Please just lend us 10 guards, We’ll pay handsomely!” Jet hears who looks like the caravan leader plead to the guards.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t help you. We’ve been short on guards for a while and borrowing you even 5 guards may leave our village defenseless. I wish you the best of luck.” The elven guard, who Jet recognizes as Kevin, apologetically explains the situation the village is in.
Jet noticed strength-based animals get bigger the higher level they are, and from the frantic look on the caravan leader’s face, and the way he described the wolves as giants, Jet reckoned the wolves levels would range from 5-8, which might be a problem for him to handle, so without further ado, Jet used defiance to phase through the village walls unseen whilst gritting his teeth from the uncomfortable feeling and pain.
Once inside, Jet makes his way to his home that he shares with his best friend, Bob. Though he isn’t sure whether his belongings remain in the house.
Jet rounds a corner and sees the house come into view a few hundred feet away and he speeds up his pace. Though the market grounds aren’t as packed as usual, it’s enough to hide him. He arrives at the house without anyone stopping him, mainly because of the strong stench of blood around him, and neither he nor Bob were among those of higher ranks in the village, so guards weren’t stationed around their home.
Jet walks around the house and peeks through a window, and thankfully no one is in the room, so Jet phases through the walls—because he didn't carry his keys with him—and sneaks to his room. Knowing the guards are on a tight schedule, Jet reckons Bob won’t be back for at least an hour, so he quickly takes a bath, disposes of his ruined clothes in a rubber bag—that he’ll probably bury somewhere he’ll never find again—and puts on a set of new clothes. Jet now sits on his bed, and the first thing that comes to mind is the pack of wolves the merchant mentioned. It was common knowledge that sometimes, animals can be faster, stronger, smarter, and sometimes even bigger than should be possible, but it wasn’t until Jet unlocked the locked sections of the system that it even crossed his mind that animals could gain levels too, so Jet estimated the animals will arrive in 1-2 days, and he started preparing for their arrival. It can’t be a coincidence that the wolves will arrive 1 day before the emperor’s men come, so Jet changed his plans to prepare for both.
First off, the emperor’s men usually have 1 tank, 1 sword wielder, 1 polearm wielder, and 2 archers, while the wolves will be strength-based animals, so Jet decided the best way to fight the guards is to focus a bit on speed, and maybe figure out a way to use his mana to create spells, so Jet dumps 2 skill points in strength, 4 in speed, 1 in agility, 10 in mana, and 3 in willpower, bringing all his attributes except aura above 10, he then confirms the changes.

The changes were instantaneous, a golden glow began emanating from his body, he felt stronger, faster, and more in control of his body. A purple bar appears at the side of his vision, under his stamina, which he guesses is for mana, and he can feel everything around him in a 5 foot radius.
Gained Skill! Mana Manipulation - Lets you manipulate mana in and out of your body. |
Jet tests out his new skill and senses a thread of mana leaving his body through his aura. Interestingly enough, his mana points don’t drop until the mana leaves his aura range, where he loses control of it and it disappears from his senses. The little amount of mana he lost regenerates in seconds, he then tries to form s cube of ice with his mana by forming a near-perfect cube, then he wills his mana to transform into ice, which takes about 100 mana points, but he successfully made ice out of thin air! Jet lets out a whoop of joy, which he probably shouldn’t have.
“Hello? Is anyone there?” He hears Bob ask
Jet freezes for a moment. Bob shouldn’t have been back so early! Jet clamps his mouth shut and starts looking for a place to hide, but before he finds a place to hide, Bob opens the door and stares wide eyed at him, which he reciprocates.
A few moments pass, Jet is ready to run, as he isn’t sure whether they’d want him back in the village, when Bob starts sobbing and runs over to give Jet a hug.
“Where’d you go?” Bob chokes out
“I ah… I went on a camping trip… in the Mystical Forest.” Jet half lied to him
“You were gone for almost a month!” Bob yelled out
“I know, I went deep into the forest and got attacked by some bears.” Jake half lied again, thankfully Bob seems to believe him. It really hurt Jet to have to lie to his best friend, but there were too many unknowns of what could happen if he told Bob the truth.
“Let's go tell the chief that you’re back then!” Bob suggested
“No. Please don’t tell him I’m back. I’m going to be leaving soon” Jet declined
“Well, If you’re leaving, then I’m following you too.” Bob firmly stated
Jet wanted to tell him no—to tell him the village needed him, but no. He can’t deal with the pain of running away from his best friend again. Sure, he is being selfish, but aren’t all humans?
Jet pulled away from the hug, and told Bob to pack his belongings and be ready to leave in 5 days.

Once Bob left, Jet went back to creating more spells, and only took breaks when he ran out of mana. Jet spent hours doing this, making barriers out of space, reducing or increasing a stick's gravity, creating a small flame, and many other experiments. By the time it was dawn, he was already dozing off to sleep, so he forced himself to get up, walk to his bed, lay down, and sleep.
