Jet wakes up at noon to the blazing heat of the sun shining on his face. He gets up, has a bath, makes a simple breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs, brushes his teeth, then gets back to working on his magic. He wants to try and integrate his magic into his swordplay this time, so he first tries to make a small barrier of ice, which works just fine and just takes 25 mana to make and 5 mana per second to maintain, next he makes a barrier of earth, which takes about 40 mana to create, but no mana to maintain. He then tries to make a mixed barrier out of ice and earth mana, which surprisingly costs 80 mana to create, but 1 mana per second to maintain. Jet then hits the barrier with all his strength, and is pleasantly surprised that the sword barely managed to cut about 4 inches into it, which started regenerating immediately with a mana cost of 8/s. Jake tried multiple combinations for hours, before deciding the best combination is a barrier of space, earth, and ice mana, which he dispels when he hears Bob’s footsteps approach his room. Bob knocks on his door, and he tells him to come in.

“Hey, I’m going out to eat at the elvens, you want something to eat?” Bob offers

“Oh no. Thanks for the offer but I already ate something.” Jet rejects

Bob then leaves, and Jet gets back to making barriers and training his mana.

About an hour later, Jet gets a notification.

Jet then starts to train his aura by trying to extend it beyond its limit, which seems to work, as it very slowly expands. He then retracts it, into his body, because he plans to leave his home soon, and he noticed the weird look Bob sent his way after they finished hugging, which confirmed his theory that others can feel his aura, especially as he is stronger than most people. The only people that are stronger than Jet are the emperor’s guards, and the emperor himself, including a few magitech researchers and magicians, who somehow found a way to access the locked sections of the system without the aid of the emperor.

An annoying thing Jet noted about the aura is that if he takes his attention off of it, the aura spreads out to its maximum range again, which means he has to consciously hold his aura in whenever he’s around people, which may start getting annoying, though he notices he’s better at multitasking with the increased willpower, so that's a bonus.

Jet puts on the cloak Bob left for him, and leaves his home.

Jet arrives at the village walls without a hitch, and phases through it. His plan is to go scout the wolves and see what elements they use, so he knows which element to practice with before he fights them. He starts heading west—towards the direction the caravan came from—unnoticed.

— — — — —

2 hours into his journey, Jet notices the first signs of a fight. Huge chunks of the ground missing, deep gouges torn into boulders, and a tree snapped in half. It was clear that the wolves' elements were earth, and he planned to use a mix of space and destruction to defeat them, but just as he is about to turn around and head home, the ground liquified around him, and 10 giant wolves hop out of the floor, completely surrounding him, and a quick identify showed him that they were all level 8, with a level 9 wolf, which he identified as the pack leader. The wolves were easily 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide, with a body length of 9 feet, with astonishingly sharp claws, and long canines. 9 surrounded him as the leader stepped back and observed. Jet takes the initiative and attacks them first, adrenaline pumping into his bloodstream as he unsheathes his sword and targets the one closest to him and slashing his sword across its chest. It let out a yelp of surprise as his sword bit a few centimeters into its chest and blood started flowing out of the wound. Jet didn’t have the time to reinforce the attack with any element, but he did send a few shards of lava—a trick he learnt the previous day by combining earth and fire mana into one attack—that started hardening the moment he stopped maintaining them with mana, and by the time they reach the wolf, most of them have hardened, piercing deep into the wolf’s underbelly and setting its fur on fire. By this time, most of the wolves have composed themselves and seem to have reinforced their claws and body with stone. By this time, most of Jet’s mana has regenerated, and he reinforces his sword with space and destruction mana, making the edge sharper while destroying any mana it encounters that isn’t his. Jet reaches the wolf a few seconds after he’s done reinforcing his sword, dodges the paw swipe the wolf throws at him, then makes a big gash along the side of the wolf’s underbelly, the stone armor holding for a second, before dissolving into mana while its guts spill on the hardened ground. Just as he thinks he’s getting away scot-free, the wolf retaliates by swinging its massive tail—reinforced with stone—towards him. Jet tries to dodge the attack, but with the tail moving towards him impossible fast, and its long length, he gets hit in his left shoulder, where he hears a few bones splinter, feels his shoulder dislocate, and is thrown off his feet.

Disoriented, with many wolves slowly walking towards him, Jet pops his shoulder into place on the ground—pain numbed from the adrenaline in his blood, finds his balance, and rushes toward the first wolf he injured, which was prepared this time. Jet uses defiance to run at impossible speeds, air resistance meaning nothing to him, picks his sword along the way—which is being consumed by the destruction mana, he jumps higher than he ever could, lands on the back of the wolf, and beheads it—just as his sword shattered into pieces. Jet rapidly retreats just as the wolf’s body turns into golden orbs and flows into him.

Jet dumps all 5 stat points into speed, bringing him to 16. A golden glow emanates from his body, as the wolves seem to know what he’s doing, as 4 pounce forward at the same time. Jet selects one out of the 4, and creates a sharp ice stake anchored to the ground at an angle where he estimates the wolf will land. Before the wolves get to him, he’s already gone, Defiance coupled with 16 speed makes him a blur. Jet knows he is on a timer, so he quickly makes a sharp sword out of earth as he runs towards his next target. Once he gets to the next wolf that is currently having trouble tracking his location, he reinforces his sword with space and destruction mana again, he knows he’ll run out of mana really soon, so he changes tactics to weakening the wolves as much as he can, before finishing them off with a regular mana sword, so he beheads this wolf with little to no resistance, and runs over to the next wolf before the head even touches the ground. He slashes across the neck of 2 wolves and cuts off the right leg of another. He is already at 129 mana and his mana is steadily dropping, so with a burst of speed, he goes to finish off the previously injured wolves, before turning to the last 3, the 4th one that landed on the ice stake having died from blood loss. He then swiftly beheads 1 before dispelling his current sword and creating one that is a combination of ice and earth. Stronger than the individual elements, yet only 1 mana per second to maintain. Before Jet reaches the last wolves, however, the pack leader forms a giant boulder out of thin air, and drops it above Jet and the wolves, forcing Jet to dodge, and killing the last 2 wolves.

No time to be surprised, Jet checks his notifications.

Jet then puts 4 points into speed, 5 points into agility, 5 points into aura, 3 points into willpower, and the last 3 points into strength. He then looks up at the wolf, only to see it covered in golden light, as it levels up too. When the golden light subsides, Jet inspects the wolf, and is surprised to see it at level 10, the last level in tier 1. It is then Jet realized the attack wasn’t meant for him. It wanted to kill the wolves so it could level up.
