Chapter 28: Chapter 28 – Lady of the Enchantress Family (2)

Sneaking in was easier than Vlad expected. The ability of Adora’s pendant to erase presences was stronger than Vlad thought, plus Adora’s usage of wind to erase sounds and smells, made it so that the two practitioners guarding the entrance did not detect anything when they were sneaking in.

But that was just the start. After entering the dilapidated building, the pair saw more men patrolling the place, and the weakest of them was still at the third layer.

Vlad frowned slightly. He was regretting following Adora here.

Using his sense of smell, Vlad led Adora toward Crow's location. Soon, they arrived at a hall on the third floor of the building, where they found Crow and his men standing respectfully in front of a young woman that was seated sloppily on a luxurious chair.

The woman was extremely beautiful, easily one of the most beautiful women Vlad had seen in his life. Just looking at her made Vlad feel like he was losing his soul.

It took him a couple of seconds to snap out of his daze and pay attention to the conversation in the hall.

“You didn’t find anything then.” The young woman asked lazily.

Crow gulped a mouthful of saliva and shook his head.

“I’m sorry, I asked my men to look out for anything like that in my territory, but I found nothing.”

The woman nodded to herself and fell silent, as though she was thinking about something. In the meanwhile, Crow lowered his head, unable to hide his nervousness.

The scene made Vlad and Adora look at each other in curiosity and confusion.

The fact that this young woman made Crow behave like this meant that her identity was not simple.

Vlad could not help but think that she seemed familiar. He was pretty sure that he had seen her somewhere before.

He furrowed his brows and searched in his memories, and finally, his eyes widened in shock.

“The Enchantress Family!”

“The Enchantress Family!?” Adora was shocked too. “Do you mean one of the four strongest Marquis families?”

Vlad nodded with a solemn expression. He now remembered where he saw this woman before.

A few years ago, his grandfather took him to a noble party organized by a count, where he met her.

Her name was Karina Enchantress, the current heiress of the Enchantress Family.

Back then, he remembered being mesmerized by her beautiful appearance, deep black eyes, and fiery red hair. At the same time, he remembered feeling fear when thinking about her ability.

In the empire, the Enchantress Family was famous for three things, their control over the capital’s underworld, their beauty, and their extremely powerful Bloodline Ability.

Their Bloodline Ability was the same as the name of the family, Enchantress.

With this ability, they could charm a person and make them completely loyal, to the point where they would not hesitate to die if they were asked to.

Of course, there was a limit to this ability. They could use it a limited number of times in their life, plus, this bloodline only manifested in women, making the Enchantress Family a rare matriarchal family. But even so, it was an extremely powerful ability.

Vlad felt Adora’s breathing becoming agitated. She watched nervously as Crow gave the pill to Karina.

At that moment, the butler behind Karina looked in their direction. Without hesitating, Vlad hugged Adora and jumped aside.

In the next instant, a knife pierced the place where they were just a second ago.

Vlad and Adora felt cold sweat on their back. Instinctively, they controlled their breathing and reduced their presence as much as possible.

Karina and the others were startled when they saw the butler’s action.

“Uncle Louis, what happened?”

The butler frowned and looked around Vlad and Adora’s location. “… Nothing. I thought I felt a rat, but it looks like I was mistaken.”

Vlad and Adora felt a chill on their spines.

It was a close shave. If not for Vlad’s [Vampire Instinct] reacting and sending a warning to him just before the butler threw the knife, they would have been discovered.

By then, it would have been likely that they would not be able to leave this place alive.

The butler seemed still suspicious. He continued looking around Vlad and Adora’s location and even sent a wave of mana to see if he discovered something. Only after almost one minute did he stop searching.

Vlad and Adora let out the breath they had been holding and sighed in relief.

Karina put on a bored expression when she saw that the butler did not discover anything and waved her hand to Crow indifferently.

“You can leave, and remember to tell me if you find anything about what I asked you.”

“Understood, Lady Enchantress.” After bowing respectfully, Crow and his men left the hall.

“Sigh... It looks like finding it won’t be easy.”

“Of course not, young miss. Otherwise, we would not have the opportunity to find it.” The butler spoke up. “The South Crow Gang was the last. It looks like none of our subordinate gangs have found anything related to that object.”

“It looks like that.” Karina nodded lazily before looking at the young man in annoyance. “You are still here?”

The young man smiled bitterly.

“Big sister Karina, won’t you give me an opportunity?”

“If you want an opportunity, you must become stronger first. I’m sorry, but the current you don’t stand a chance.”

“Don’t worry, I will show you that I’m worthy of you.”

Karina only looked at him indifferently and ignored him, making the young man bite his lips and clench his fist.

Just then, though, something caught Vlad’s attention.

He smelled a very sweet smell coming from the young man.
