Chapter 1: Chapter 1 – Life After Death

What happens after death?

 

An eternal darkness? Reincarnation? Heaven? Hell? Or... A voluptuous goddess waiting to send you to another world where you'd bask in the bosoms of an ever expanding harem?

 

These thoughts flashed across my mind as my vision blurred, the excruciating pain fading as my consciousness tore asunder.

 

Darkness.... An eerily alien sensation, or lack thereof, of having no physical construct to comprehend my surroundings. All that was left was nothingness and peace. I couldn't grasp the concept of life, how I lived, why I died... Did it even matter anymore?

 

With whatever sentience I had left slowly falling into an eternal slumber, suddenly, two sigils lit up the void.

 

One was of two triangles connected at the centre from top to bottom, like an hourglass of sorts. It was emanating a white silvery hue, silent in its regality.

 

The other sigil was that of a diamond separated symmetrically at its center, two arrows pointing outward. This sigil had an ominous dark-purplish aura reverberating, overbearing in its claim on its surroundings.

 

These silver and purple lights coalesced into each other forming a core that became denser and denser. I had not the cognitive functions to understand what was going on but after a while I caught a glimpse of the two sigils now combined; an hourglass with two arrows pointing out at its sides almost staring at me in an imperious manner. At the very moment at which we seemed to lock 'eyes', an explosion of a majestic blue consumed me and what as left was... nothing.

 

Beep... Beep... Beep...

 

I was awoken by an annoying sound. My eye-lids struggled to open as a stinging sensation met my irises. Everything was a blur, I seemed to be floating in some sort of bluish liquid and behind the glass I was encapsulated in were beings who seemed to be panicking amidst flashing red lights. In my confusion I looked downward toward my raised right hand and it was tiny! Before I could get my bearings about me, I felt a flow of data pummeling into my consciousness.

 

"Arghhhh!" 

 

I screamed as an excruciating pain fell upon me, but the wails of agony were stifled by the liquid i was in. Bubbles fought their way past my eyes when something dawned upon me - I couldn't breathe! Panicking even more I struggled to escape the plethora of tubes which held me in place.

 

Fleeting images were ingrained into my memory almost instantly. First was a Herculean man in a full-plated armor which exposed only his face. Juxtaposed to the mediaeval style of armor were outlines of a neon fluorescent gold which exuded an over-bearing aura. The plates of armor were a deep maroon, almost like exposed carbon but it was no material i had never seen; it was reminiscent of Sci-Fi movies like Tron. This middle aged looking man had a chiseled face with an undercut of dark purple hair and a menacing gaze. This is apparently my father - Emperor Aion Teleos Astral.

 

Materializing beside him was a beautiful lady of Asian decent. She had a head of silky long silver hair, porcelain skin and lustrous glistening eyes. She had angelic silver and purple eye which were accented by a white traditional robe like those worn by deities in the Chinese WuXia films i watched in my previous life. Contrary to this image of an enchanting deity was what looked like a glowing scarf which hovered around her, material unknown but it had a similar high-tech feel to it. This was my mother - Empress Shi Kong.

 

For reasons unexplained, they seemed to have left the Empire and my Grandmama Tai Sui took temporary reign over the Astral Empire as acting Empress Dowager. She is the matriarch of the Tai Kong Clan. The Tai Kong's, ruled by Grandpa Tai Kong, are an ancient clan that has existed since the dawn of time and though very few in number, they are rumored to be a family of indomitable beings born with a natural affinity to the essence of time and space. They are a mysterious clan who were privy to many dangerous truths of the realm due to their longevity. Longevity which was a result of their purposeful self-isolation. It was only after my Father had kidnapped... Ahem stolen the heart of... their prized Princess Shi Kong that they very subtly revealed their existence to a certain few.

 

Additionally, Emperor Aion Teleos and Empress Shi Kong had 2 daughters, my elder sisters, who were powerhouses in their own right. The eldest, Princess Athena Astral is the commander of the Astral armies. She was known as a phenom in the martial world even as she was a child. Born with an amazing affinity with the powers of space, she conquered the Tertius colosseums in her prepubescence and established tyrannical rule over the battlefields in the years following.

The second daughter, Princess Sophia Astral is the Empires master strategist and was nicknamed 'God of Fortune'. At the age of 3, she was tested to have had a shockingly high IQ. Blessed with the powers of foresight, her merchant organization quickly became a Goliath in all three empires within Tertius before she even graduated. Proceeding then to take over the post of the Governess of Finance within the Astral Empire, increasing the Empires wealth tenfold; Thus, solidifying Astral Empire's dominance as one of the most affluent economies in Tertius.

 

The world we lived in is called Tertius, the third great generation of civilization in the history of Earth. There are 3 main empires which rule the lands. First is the Astral Empire, populated by humanoid beings who pursued a synergy between technology and what is known as dimensional arts. Secondly, were the Dadirri, a mysterious race of elven beings, fairies and mystical beasts. They are known for their innate affinity with nature and brandish elemental magic. Lastly was the Empire of Technia. They are cyborgs who have given up their natural form, replacing parts of their bodies with advanced technologies. The symbiosis of the two straying increasingly toward the path of Machina.

 

General data regarding this new world was imprinted almost instantaneously. A stinging pain writhed within my brain in a schizophrenic fashion, my head ached as if I had a belligerent hangover. The clash between memories of two entirely different realities forced me deeper into a nauseating disarray.

Authors Notes:

This is my first ever novel! Clap Clap Clap for MrB :) I have 0writing experience so please bear with me, I'm trying my best to improve. Oh! FYI, I have read 10k++ chapters spread across a variety of long form novels, albeit in Mandarin... So... I don't know if it'd useful to my work. BUT! I do have a pretty interesting storyline planned to last several hundred if not maybe a thousand chapters. Anyways... I decided to write author's notes for every chapter, to share and document my journey as a budding writer. So starting off, I wanted to give a brief overview of the MCs immediate family + Basic info of the starting world. Naming the characters was fun, I wanted the family to be a clash of cultures of sorts:

[Western Influence]

- the father Aion Teleos ( a Gnostic God or ' The Broadest Aeon'),

- Athena ( Greek Goddess of War),

- Sophia ( Ancient Greek word for Wisdom).

[Eastern Influence]

- Grandpa Tai Kong (太空) (Translates to space)

- Grandma Tai Sui (太岁)

Tai Sui has several meanings, it is the ancient Chinese name for Jupiter, fitting as she is the 2nd in command in the ' Space Clan', it is also the name of a fearsome deity. If you split the two words 'Tai'(太) and 'Sui'(岁) up... 'Sui'(岁) means Age and hence the characters affinity to the powers of Time; 'Tai'(太) as a title has a very important place in Chinese culture, it symbolizes seniority and a sense of reverence. For example, the most revered elder in a sect is called "Tai" Shang Zhang Lao (太上长老), the Emperor's Father is called "Tai"Shang Huang(太上皇) and the Empress Dowager, the characters actual post in the story, is called Huang "Tai" Hou (皇太后).

[same applies to Grandpa Tai Kong and the Tai Kong Clan named after him, the difference only be while "Sui" connotes Time, "Kong" connotes Space; This is also the source of the MCs 2main paths of development.]

The 3 Main Empires

-Astrals (of the stars and also the metaphysical counterpart to a physical construct which roughly encompasses the powers of the MCs race)

This draws parallels to the Present in the novels timeline.

-Dadirri (Aboriginal word for 'inner deep listening and quiet still awareness, a connection to nature")

Drawing parallels to the times and people of the Past

-Technia (Tech as Technology)

A reflection of a possible outcome of humanity in the Future - Both extraterrestrial influence or A.I. dominance.

The name of the World is Tertius which the Latin word for "Third".

I don't want to spoil too much of the story's plot, but the story revolves around the theory that the Earth has had 4 ice-ages and mass extinction events ;).
