Chapter 13: Chapter 8: The Angel’s Heart

There were two groups those with power could join. Those being the Adventurers Guild, or The Militia.

The Adventurers Guild was exactly what it sounded like. A place where one took on quests, joined parties, explored Dungeons, and so on.

Whereas The Militia was a government owned organization to protect the people and serve the people. It was this world's police force.

"If I told my superiors about how a single man, with no magic to speak of, managed to kill two goblins out of a pack of nine barehanded I could easily get you in."

"Huh? But I thought that wasn't impressive?" 

"Goblins are Third Star Level monsters, which means it would take a minimum of two fully equipped Third Star Members to take out a single one." 

Alex smiled at me. She had been pulling my leg this entire time, taking advantage of my lack of knowledge.

"In other words you are at minimum at the same level as a Fourth Star Member. Our fight only cemented that idea into my mind."

I had no idea what theses "Star Levels" were so I asked the system to inform me about it. As it turns out, that is this world's ranking system. It went up to Star Level 20.

"Ah right. Seems I'm still recovering on the mental side of things."

Alex nodded her head, "Furthermore I know you have some interest in Elise, and perhaps even myself. I could arrange for you to join my squad so that you may continue with your advances. Although you shouldn't expect for me to fall for you as easily as Elise."

Was this... The green light?

'Well this certainly complicates things.' 

On one hand this could be the perfect opportunity to close the gap between Elise and I, as well as the perfect chance to gain Alex's trust.

Only problem was I would be stuck working under someone. If I needed to be at one place, but was told to go to another, then I would be screwed.

"I must warn you about Elise. Her powers are heavily impacted by purity. If she were to become corrupted..." Alex let her words hang in the air.

I subtly shifted in my seat, screaming out curses in my mind. If what Alex said was true, which I was inclined to believe they were, then that meant I couldn't taint Elise, even if I wanted to.

"It seems you've misunderstood. Elise can still perform those... acts, but it must be out of Love and after marriage."

Thankfully Alex threw me a lifeline before I took someone's away in a fit of rage.

"Alex, I have to ask for some time to think about my answer. I have a lot on my mind at the moment."

"Of course. We will be reaching the Dukedom of Yale within a week. Have your answer by then."

With that I left the tent, and went towards my own.

Walking in I saw the knight from earlier taking apart my bed.

He turned towards me, looking like he was about to shout something, before immediately standing at attention. 

"S-sir!"

'Is he... Scared? Pfft coward.'

"No need for formalities, I just came to see if you needed any help."

After my victory against their Commander I must have gained some form of respect, or fear, from some of the soldiers.

"No si-, I mean, no I have this under control."

"Alright. Oh, do you know where Elise might be?"

"The cleric should be at the medical tent to the left of Commander Alexandra's tent!" The knight was still standing at attention, so I just left to find this medical tent.

Maybe that knight wasn't so bad, I mean he's shown me the way to my destination twice now. Although on my way out I swore I could hear chuckling.

Approaching the tent, I assumed to be the medical tent, I walked in.

This place was only slightly smaller than Alex's tent and had beds lining both walls. There a few people covered in bloody bandages resting on the beds, as well as a few clerics inside. One of which was Elise.

Once I got close enough, Elise noticed me and a blush instantly formed on her pale skin. She pretended to busy herself by organizing the tools on a little table next to her.

"Hey Elise I wanted to talk to you."

Elise was turned away from me, and even after addressing her she didn't look toward me.

"U-um what did you want to talk about?" 

"It's about earlier... Is it okay if we go somewhere a bit more private?"

Elise's nodded her head before walking past me and straight out of the tent. I followed behind her.

After leaving the tent we went behind a nearby tree.

Elise still had her back to me, but after a moment she turned to look at me.

Elise looked incredibly anxious, but even more so beautiful. The shade made it seem like her blonde hair and especially her blue eyes were much more vibrant, and her trembling, slightly parted, lips looked incredibly enticing.

"Ah where to start... I wanted to apologize. I forgot for a moment that hugging was something only married couples could do..."

It was odd saying something like that with a straight face but I did anyways.

"N-no it's fine. It's not like it was unpleasant or anything..." Elise broke eye contact with me and tilted her head slightly downwards after she finished her words.

I brought my hand to her cheek and gently lifted her face to meet my own. Her breathing turned ragged at my touch, and turned even rougher when I closed most of the distance between us.

"Remember when I said I was forever grateful to you, and how I wouldn't mind marrying you? Well I meant every word. I couldn't think of anyone better to stand by my side, and to call my wife." It's not like I was lying to her, actually that was pretty close to how I truly felt, save for the marriage part. I wasn't quite ready for that, but she was the perfect candidate for my first harem member.

"I-I-" 

"Shh. I won't pressure you into making a decision now. I want you to think about it and follow what your heart tells you."

I felt something wet hit my hand soon after my words finished, which turned out to be her tears.

'Oh shit! Did I misread the situation?'

I didn't let any of the turmoil going on in my mind reach my face, and instead calmly wiped the tears from her eyes while asking, "What's wrong? Did I upset you?"

"N-no it's just, just that-" By this point she had started twitching and shaking so I moved in to hug her, before remembering what happened the last time I tried. Elise must have saw my hesitation because she very quickly closed the distance between us and wrapped her arms around my waist.

"I d-don't deserve to b-be with someone so h-h-handsome and strong. I'll become a b-burden... And wh-when we reach Yale you w-will have to l-leave." Elise choked out between her sobs.

By now my shirt had been completely drenched in her tears. I silently listened to the poor girl vent her worries while patting her back in an attempt at consoling her.

"Silly girl you can't be a burden to me. Do I need to remind you that it was you who saved my life? And besides Alex already offered to let me join you guys."

Elise stopped sobbing after hearing my words, and raised her head to meet my eyes. Her eyes had grown red and puffy and her small nose shared a similar color as a small amount of snot leaked out.

"She did? You aren't lying?" 

"Yeah, we can go talk to her right now if you want."

"No... There's still one more problem..."

"Hmm? And what's that?" I said in the closest thing to a soothing voice I could muster.

Elise rested her forehead against my body and started shaking again. I instantly started lighting patting her back.

"I am a dirty girl who lusts after men she's only just met... I can't trust myself not to do it for other men."

'How the hell is that the only sentence she doesn't stutter on? No beyond that what in the fuck does she mean by that? Doesn't her power come from her purity? Then how can she- OH SHIT!'

I instantly used observe on her just to find her status hadn't actually changed, except for her MP that was now at 85%.

"What are you talking about?" I asked her, doing my best to mask the anxieties growing in my heart.

"After what happened this morning I asked some knights about your thing... And they told me it was the object of lust and I tried to t-touch it! That makes me a dirty girl and unworthy of your love..."

'Oh thank fuck.'

I released a very deep breath.

"Elise I need you to tell me the names of those liars."

Elise, who heard my voice take on a very dark tone, looked up and saw a seriousness I had never shown her before.

Suddenly the tears that had stopped falling from her eyes threatened to break free again.

"E-eh? Liars?"

"Yes. My 'thing' is not some object of lust. I promise to explain the truth to you soon, but I can't do so until I know the names of the people who lied to you."

While technically my member was a baby making tool, which wasn't dirty, it was almost always treated as an object of lust. But Elise didn't need to know that last part.

"Th-then does that mean I'm not a dirty girl?"

"No but you will be soon you could never be a dirty girl."

The last bastion of Elise's resolve crumbled as she turned into a sobbing mess, drenching my shirt even further. She choked out a few names and where to find the owners of these name. As it turns out the guy who gave me directions previously was among the list of "liars".

I made a personal vow to make them regret ever being born.

After Elise was done crying into my shirt we parted ways. She said she still needed some time to figure out what her heart truly wanted, and I told her to take as much time as she needed.

I made it a personal mission to show the extent of my wrath to every name who Elise listed. I had thoroughly taught everyone that Elise was to never hear of anything even slightly sexual in nature, and that not a single word of my actions would reach Elise's ears.

Little did I know that by the end of the night every person in the entire encampment knew of my orders. Everyone except Elise.
