This was my progress over the last three days of travel. After we left the camp we quickly encountered a group of goblins to which Alexandra and her fellow knights easily dispatched.

I was placed near the back of the formation to guard those who couldn't fight, as well as the wagons that carried everything that wouldn't fit inside the storage rings. They held everything from weapons to food to extra clothes.

I would have made a lot more progress had I been stationed near the front, since the only time I could gain EXP was when enemies appeared behind us, but Alexandra insisted I stayed by Elise. She said something about this area being dangerous and I was the only person capable enough to protect her, and I just left it at that. I actually perfered being with her.

It only took a few hours before I could get revenge on those ugly green bastards, which I enjoyed every moment of.

The kind knights and mages let me have my fun when the group of goblins approached us. It only took a minute to kill all seven of them, and that was without using any magic spells, save Mana Enhancement.

Goblins weren't the only thing we encountered on the road though.

[Dire Wolf]

[Strength: 23]

[Constitution: 15]

[Magic: 0]

[Resistance: 12]

[Agility: 27]

We encountered packs of these wolves many times. They seemed to avoid Alex and target what they thought to be the weakest part of our formation or, in other words, where I was stationed. Quite scary intelligence, albeit misguided.

Luckily I wasn't alone in the fight against them, if I had been I definitely would have lost to them. I put up a helluva fight against them but still suffered from some light injuries due to how fast and smart the wolves were. They avoided directly fighting the armored knights and instead fought those without armor, which just happened to include me.

Elise personally saw to my injuries making sure not even a scar remained.

During the journey I met a mage named Hannah who was quite cute, but she didn't show any signs of great potential so I decided I wouldn't add her to my harem. Although talking to her had been a great way to pass the time.

Some rumors had spread through the camp about my talents as a mage, which she had caught wind of. She wanted to know if they were true so I created a new spell, Fireball. Hannah initially wasn't impressed until I shot a Dire Wolf with it and it blew up. Yes I had made it to where the fireball exploded instead of simply burning the target.

During times I wasn't talking to Hannah or Elise I was speaking to Pyra. She had told me the reason for the sudden cooldown on my Charm skill was due to a glitch of sorts in the system. When I asked how that was even possible Pyra said, (I only had eighteen years to make it, and that is a very short time for a goddess who doesn't have a single affinity for fighting. I had to get help from various other gods, and even they had troubles. You should be grateful for what you have...) And so she rambled on. The gist of it was, the system was largely incomplete and would grow with me. She even mentioned that it had already happened before against the goblins that whooped my ass.

Apparently the system didn't show any magical stats, including resistance, when I used observe on the goblin. I had been to focused on everything else to notice at the time.

I had Pyra be on the lookout for more glitches and to inform me when one happened.

By nightfall we had found a clearing and made a quick camp that filled nearly the entire area. After the camp was made the people split into two groups, those who would keep watch and guard the camp, and those who would sleep.

I was apart of the former. Every few hours the guards switched out and got some sleep, and that is how we operated these past few days.

"Aye lass, t'was not an easy battle I t'll ya."

Hannah and I were listening to a fellow guardsman tell a tale of how he singlehandedly taken out an orc. His name was Gareth. A quick look at his stats said that it could have been possible, but incredibly unlikely. I decided not to stomp on his parade, mainly because I didn't have any interest in Hannah, who Gareth was trying to impress. Besides I quite liked the old timer.

"T'was only a summ'r ago I faced a bear d'wn with only me barehands-" his words were cut short when the faint sound of a whistle broke through the night and an arrow pierced his back.

"Hannah!" I pushed Hannah down onto her back, shielding her body with my own. I felt a tingle in my lower back and my ear, but did nothing to move. A moment later I felt the arrow rip through my flesh. Luckily it didn't go too deep. Perks of a higher constitution I guess.

I brought the horn I had received from Alexandra to my mouth and blew into it, causing a loud sound to erupt from it. This horn was meant to awaken everyone and prepare them to fight.

I then pulled the arrow out my back, which hurt more than when it entered, and assessed the situation.

I could hear war cry's resounding from all directions originating from the woods and then I saw them. Tens of people dressed in dirtied leather armor emerged from the protection of the trees. I used observe on the newcomers.

"Hannah get up, we need to retreat."

Looking down at the girl I saw a sight that surprised me a bit.

Where her right eye should have been, an arrow had landed. Her face had one of shock, her remaining eye was wide and her mouth was open like she was going to scream..

"Guess we have something in common."

Hannah died despite my attempt to save her.

Clenching my teeth through the pain I stood with some difficulty and ran towards the center of the camp. I couldn't bother myself with the dead, I needed to find Elise and Alex. Alex could hold her own which meant I needed to find Elise first.

The sounds of horns, similar to my own, resounded from the other three cardinal directions, which meant we were completely surrounded.

I made it to the tent where Elise was supposed to be sleeping, I moved the curtain and found her just finishing getting dressed.

"Damian what's going on? Y-you're bleeding!"

Elise ran up to me, intending to heal the wound on my ear, which I had entirely forgotten about, but I stopped her.

"There's no time for that-" the sound of fighting came from my right. Looking in that direction I saw a knight, who I had seen once before, get killed. The kid didn't have his armor on which made him easy prey. I heart started beating faster than it had before at the sight. I grabbed Elise's hand and dragged her out of her tent.

"O-oh my-"

"Don't look! Close your eyes and follow my lead!"

I could feel Elise's grip tighten as her breath grew unsteady but I didn't have time to worry about that. I needed to find the safest path to Alexandra.

'Pyra guide me through!'

(Turn right!)

Following her words I turned right, putting me between the back of the tents and the wagons full of extra food, supplies, and weapons. This was no doubt what the bandits were after, which meant I needed to be quick or I would be found.

Elise suddenly stopped moving, meaning I too had stopped.

"D-Damian... He died didn't he?"

"We don't have time for this Elise. We need to find Alex n-"

(Watch out!)

Even with Pyra's warning, and my danger sense of sorts, I couldn't prepare myself for the blow coming my way. Luckily whoever it was simply pushed me.

"AGH-"

Unluckily they pushed me straight into a sword that had been poking out of the wagon. The blade pierced the right side of my chest, just to the left of my shoulder.

"Damian!" Upon hearing Elise the bandit turned away from me.

"My, my, what do we have here? Aren't you just the most adorable slice of meat?"

"Elise... run..." I weakly voiced out. I couldn't feel my right arm anymore, and I couldn't muster the strength to walk myself off the blade.

"Hahaha I'm gonna have fun with you."

I could hear the bastard lick his lips. It was sickening.

Elise fell to her knees out of fear of the beast in front of her. I could see a tear fall from her eye.

"Well aren't you cooperative? Guess your mouth is a good way to start..." The bandit started undoing his belt buckle...

"Fireball"

...before his head exploded into tiny little bits. His blood covered Elise from head to toe, and his brain matter went every which way.

"Burn in hell bastard."

And the cause of it? Me of course. I activated Martial Arts Mastery and Mana Enhancement to pull myself off the blade. It took all of my willpower to not make a sound, but I couldn't afford to make one. After that I sent a fireball, that was boosted by both of my skills, straight at the fuckers head.

I dismissed the notification I got without looking at it.

I then collapsed, even with the help of both skills. The pain from my chest was excruciating beyond belief. The bastard must of hit a nerve or something.

Not a moment later Elise was by my side silently casting her healing magic. With her current Mana reserves she couldn't fully heal me, but it was enough. The gash in my chest, and back, had been reduced to a mere scratch, but she couldn't do anything about the arrow hole in my back.

Now that I was finally able to move I pulled Elise into my embrace. In the next moment she broke down in my arms.

"H-he, y-you"

"Shh I know. I know."

We really didn't have this time to waste, but I also couldn't afford to leave her behind, beyond that I didn't want to. And if kring her now would just cause problems with her psyche.

"Hey we have to go now." I said, my breathing only a little more stable than hers. I had full view of the bastard who dared taint my Elise, and his corpse was filling me with joy.

Elise didn't say anything but released her grip around me. I helped her up and we continued onwards.

After reaching the end of our small alleyway we saw her.

Alex was standing amidst a dozen corpses. Her armor was trashed, and in places didn't even cover her body, and she was covered in blood. She had small wounds all over her body as well.

Her sword was in the chest of her latest vanquish before she looked at us and pulled it out.

Ignoring the bodies I walked up to Alex.

"This place is fucked, we need to get out of here now." I told her, to which she just looked towards the fighting happening on her right.

On her left even more bandits were approaching from the road.

Alex looked down while I prepared for the inevitable fight heading our way.

"Make up your mind commander. We don't have time to waste."

Alex nodded her head, "Do it."

I raised my hand to face the air.

"Fireball"

A lone ball of flame rose into the starry night sky. Followed by a thunderous explosion. This was the signal to cut your losses and run.

Soon enough I heard people yelling out "retreat", but I didn't have time to focus on that.

In front of us were seven bandits each of which had stats doubling my own.

"Well this will be fun." I said picking a sword up from a dead bandit, and then the carnage started.

My stats has been lowered a bit, but I couldn't afford to rush in unarmed.

Alex rushed forward while I stayed in the back shooting off Flame Needles and Fireballs at the bandits. It didn't take long before two of the bastards fuckers reached me.

I already had both Mana Enhancement active, so I just engaged them.

Despite their stats, they weren't entirely too skilled. Even though they were faster than me I could dodge both of their attacks thanks to my danger sense, and Pyra watching my blindside.

After I managed to get the two bandits in a line I threw out my first attack, a simple thrust towards the bastard's chest.

I felt my blade tear through armor, flesh, and bone seamlessly. In the early levels constitution only protected against minor wounds. Something like a blade piercing your chest wasn't typically seen as minor.

Though it was easy to push the blade into the dead bandit's chest, it wasn't easy to pull it back out even more so since the bandit fell to his knees, and so I had to release my weapon or risk losing a limb due to the other bandit.

It was easy enough to dodge and counter the singular bandit and so I sent a Fireball straight into his chest, reducing it to a bloody mess.

(Elise is in danger!)

Looking towards Elise I saw she had covered her mouth with both her hands with tears streaming down her face, but beyond that I saw one of the fuckers sneak up on her and bring his blade down.

Time seemed to slow to a crawl as I watched the bandits blade grow ever closer to Elise's neck. I was faster now, but not fast enough to reach her in time.

I reached my hand out, intending on sending a Flame Needle towards the bandit, it was my fastest spell, but...

The blade connected, causing blood to stain the dirt.
