The girls and I slept peacefully through the night, and once I woke up so did they.

The first thing I noticed was the fact the storm overhead looked much worse. It was bound to rain soon.

I frowned slightly at it.

"Are you ready?" Alex asked from behind me. I was staring straight into the sky, trying to guess how much time it would take before the first droplet fell.

"Yeah, it's a long walk back."

We had run quite far away when we escaped, and it would most likely take a few hours to get back at a walking pace.

Without wasting another second Alex, Elise, and I set out towards the camp that had been taken over by those bastards.

It took the better part of six hours to reach it, and now thunder was booming about from behind us, but no rain had fallen yet.

Once we reached the edge of the treeline we scoped out the camp. From where we were we could see bandits protecting the way in and even more bandits actually inside.

"No hostages here. Let's circle around and see if we can't find them." I whispered out.

On the opposite side of where we were we found the hostages and, as I expected, they were all women. I had counted 6 of them in the makeshift cage they were locked in and another was...

Upon seeing the sight Alex brought her hand to her weapon and prepared to rush in. I put a hand on her shoulder to keep her down.

"Not yet, the girls are strong. They will hold out until we can free them safely."

If we rushed in now the only thing we would gain is dead hostages, and the first to die would be the one they were taking turns raping.

I could see the hatred burning in her eyes, but I couldn't let Alex go in. Odds were I wouldn't let her go in at all. She was exhausted and injured. She wouldn't like the idea, but I couldn't have her dying in pursuit of revenge.

"Let's retreat for now. We'll come up with a plan and wait for rain to fall, that way my spells don't cause the entire forest to catch fire." As I said that I heard a voice I had heard a few times before.

"Everything will be fine, the newcomer was framed perfectly. By now him and the Commander would have killed each other, and even if they come with everyone who escaped we'll just kill these bitches."

The guard who had given me directions a few times before emerged talking to what looked like the leader of these bandits. He was big. Much bigger than the other people around. He also had much more elegant armor compared to the others. I used observe on the bandit leader and nearly cursed out loud at what I saw.

[Name: Igor Bloodfang]

[Race: Half-Human Half-Giant]

[Level: 72]

[HP: 100%]

[MP: 100%]

[Strength: 102]

[Constitution: 87]

[Magic: 24]

[Resistance: 108]

[Agility: 42]

"What in the hell? What is he doing here?" Alex said.

"You know him?"

Alex nodded her head. "Igor Bloodfang. I faced him once and barely escaped with my life... Why is he here though? He's supposed to be up north..."

'How the hell am I supposed to beat this bastard?' I thought.

"Whatever let's just retreat for now. We'll find a way.

After walking away for a good fifteen minutes we stopped.

"This is just great." I said. I counted around fifty of the bastards, and my Mana reserves were at roughly half since I kept Mana Enhancement on for hours on end during our sleep, and my fights against the bandits.

Alex was looking away from me, and her fist were clenched hard enough to draw blood. She then hit a poor tree with the bottom of her fist, causing wood chips to go every which way.

I didn't say anything this time, since it was bad. Really bad.

Igor Bloodfang was on par with a 12th star Militia unit, or a peak C-Rank adventurer. For comparison Alex was only just barely a 9th star Militia unit, or mid a C-Rank adventurer. Looking at numbers alone her and I could win, but there was something important to remember.

As stat points grow higher, they grow more potent. For example say every stat point for strength from 1-10 increased a person's strength by fifty pounds, then every stat point from 11-20 would increase a person's strength by sixty pounds. (A/N Not accurate)

Which meant, even though he doesn't even have double of Alex's strength stat, he is probably three times as strong. A single hit from him, barehanded might I add, in the wrong spot could kill Alex, or even myself.

He only had a single weakness. Agility. Right now I was both slower and weaker than he was, and I only had ten stat points remaining.

"I have an idea. It won't be fun but it's our best shot..." I said.

I readied myself to try again. I brought myself low, and jumped forwards at an incredible pace, just to tumble in the dirt again.

I had been at this for thirty minutes now. I was trying to create something like the 'Burst Step' skill that Arthur guy from a novel used, but I was only having minimal luck.

I was putting Mana into my legs, to the best of my ability, and dashing forwards, but the problem wasn't that. It was the fact that Arthur used air magic to do it, and I was using fire magic.

I kept going, and going, and each time I was getting a bit further than the last, but no matter what I did I couldn't regain my footing.

After another thirty minutes I finally landed on my feet, just to tumble forwards and land on my stomach.

[Creation of skill: Burst Step failed due to lack of knowledge and/or skill]

I did get a notification, as expected, but it was just to tell me that I was a failure who wasn't skillful, or smart, enough to use the technique perfectly.

"Eh whatever, it'll be enough if push comes to shove." I said before moving on to the next skill I would learn. Or skills I should say.

I needed a new fire spell, one that would burn my opponents' to ashes, not simply pierce them or blow them to kingdom come. I needed something akin to a Flamethrower. I figured this spell wouldn't be as easy to make as the others, so I would practice trying to chant-less cast while I was at it.

I looked into the sky yet again. It would happen soon. Rain would fall, and that would be when we attacked. The question was, could we win?

I shook my thoughts away and raised my hand, palm up.

I would start with the shape. Something like a regular fireball. I brought the dancing red particles of energy in the atmosphere to my hand and formed a ball of flame with it, like I had done many times before.

I then pointed my hand outwards towards a faraway tree.

I wanted this to be a wild fire that would burn everything that dared touch it, and so I spoke a single word. "Burn"

The process to gaining chant-less casting is to first gain single-word casting, which I already had a form of. The 'form' I was going for let me say any word as long as the intention to cast a specific spell was there.

Suddenly the flames moved from my hand, but not forwards. Instead it went up, down, left, right, and everywhere in-between. Everywhere except forwards.

[Creation of skill: Flame Barrier failed due to lack of knowledge and/or skill]

[Creation of skill: Voiceless Incantation failed due to lack of knowledge and/or skill]

I retracted my hand, and the flames, after reading the messages.

'Hmm? I'm trying to learn single word casting, not Voiceless Incantation, or well I'm trying to learn that too, but not currently.' I thought.

(You can already do that without a skill, so the system is trying to make you learn the next stage. Try to cast your next spell without speaking.)

I did as I was told and brought my hand up again. This time my sole focus was on making the flames go forward. And that they did.

'Fire' I thought, and a laser beam of fire left my hand, and pierced straight through the tree, followed by many more. There was no telling if that spell would ever burn out, and legend has it it's still piercing trees to this day.

[Creation of skill: Fire Beam failed due to lack of knowledge and/or skill]

[Confirming creation of skill: Voiceless Incantation (A)]

'Is there a way to like, I dunno, auto confirm skill creation or something? I feel like at this rate I'm going to go insane.'

[Setting: Auto Create Skill is currently set to off. Does host wish to turn it on?]

'Uh, yeah.'

[Auto Create Skill is now on]

[Voiceless Incantation (A) has been unlocked]

-Voiceless Incantation (A)

Those with an extreme talent for magic may be one of the lucky few to gain this skill. The only thing that can make a mage more deadly is not knowing what spell they might cast...

Allows user to cast spells with a single thought

'Well that's one down at least. Question is how the hell do I make my spell do what I want it to do?'

"U-um... Damian?"

I turned my head to Elise, who was still wearing nothing but my shirt and looked incredibly tasty, and she seemed to want to say something, if her shifting around meant anything.

"Hmm? What is it?"

"W-well, uhm, th-that is, you see, I s-saw you were having t-trouble and thought I c-could help..."

I chuckled at her, and the growing blush on her face, before I motioned for her to come over to me.

"Now that I think about it, I've never heard you cast a spell... So tell me, what am I doing wrong?"

"Y-yes that's right, I can also use v-voiceless incantation, and uhm, I can teach you a bit a-about it."

"Go for it. I'm all ears." I said trying my best to not break out into hysterical laughter. Elise was most likely flustered since I didn't have a shirt on, and the fact we had slept together, but I couldn't dare laugh at her and lose this chance to gain this 'knowledge' the system insists I'm lacking.

"R-right, well uhm, tell me what you know about voiceless incantation." She said.

"Well it lets you cast a spell in your head I guess." I said scratching the back of my head.

Suddenly Elise's blush disappeared just as quickly as it formed, and she took on a more confident tone of voice. "Yes that is right. I saw you attempt to create a spell earlier and noticed that you completely control the Mana you use. Can you tell me why that is a bad thing?"

I was a bit shocked by her 'transformation' but ultimately waved it off. "As far as I'm aware it's not. Well then again I don't know much about magic."

"It is only appropriate to force Mana when you already know what spell you are going to use. To create new ones is more complicated. You need to put your intent into the Mana itself, or it will simply try and do what it thinks you want it to. This is even more crucial when using voiceless incantation."

I almost chuckled at her serious face and I felt like I was being scolded by a teacher, but what she was saying was actually pretty interesting.

"I see. That would explain why it isn't working right... Alright let's try this out."

The first time I tried making the spell I wanted it to rage about in all directions like a flame is supposed to, which made a barrier, and the second time I forced the Mana to go forward and that created the laser beam. This time I pictured what I wanted to happen in my head, and tried to convey the feeling I got from it to the Mana gathering in my hand.

I then stuck my hand out and let the spell fly. Fortunately a wild flame erupted from my hand, exactly as I wanted, unfortunately it only went about six inches in front of me.

[Skill: Fire Blast (F) has been unlocked]

-Fire Blast (F)

In an attempt to create a spell above his level, a mage created this spell. It's purpose is to burn all adversaries to ashes.

Casts a small wisp of flame in the desired direction

Damage: Magic x2

Special Effect: Does x2 damage to bare flesh

Mana Usage: 30

I damn near spat blood at it's description. The fuck it mean 'above his level' huh!?

"Well Elise, you'd make quite the amazing teacher. I'll have to have you teach me more soon..." As my words fell, so did the first drop of rain. "Ah but not now. Now it's time to save those girls."

And with that, we were ready to put our plan into action.
