I held my breath as I had my bow drawn, beside me were hundreds of other men wielding bows. Far in front or me were hundreds of pike-men and samurai defensing. Behind me lied my hometown named Shiga. Suddenly the loud thunder of hooves sounded around the battle field, I drew my longbow in anticipation. I owned no horse so I am standing to aim, suddenly in the horizon I see clouds of dust only for the smallest dots to appear in my vision, suddenly hundreds of other small dots follow behind them. Suddenly a man calls out
"All troops the enemy is upon us. Archers fire when you can see the color of the enemies armor!"
I see the troops below get into formation with cavalry and samurai on horseback on the sides and a large defensive wall of pike-man with foot soldiers behind. The foot soldiers placed down large rectangle shaped shields in the ground as a barrier before letting the pike-men set up from behind. Suddenly an arrow flies from my right
In just a few seconds the sky is filled with arrows, I follow suit and launch my arrow I have drawn. I don't know where my arrow even went due to the rain of arrows, all I can hope is that I hit someone. Suddenly our commander speaks out once more
"The enemy has a small force of cavalry approaching, expect reinforcements! Archers you have ten arrows each , make sure you hit your enemy!"
I nod in response before launching another arrow towards the enemy, the first horses are now dropping to the ground from the wounds and now helmets are strewn on the ground. Before I could launch another arrow the sounds of our cavalry charging forward filled my ears. I launch another arrow now focusing on avoiding my comrades, I am not confident in my aim the only reason I am even allowed to hold this bow to defend my town is due to my old habit of hunting. I shoot another arrow
Suddenly almost every horse the enemy had flung their passenger off before running away. The commander yells out
"Watch out men, this could be a trap!"
A single samurai not listening to the warning trotted forward and looked at the bodies of the enemy soldier only to scream out
"These are scarecrows!"
Suddenly a large sound of galloping sounded out from behind me, the general yelled out
"How did they cross the river!"

Only for soon after three arrows to strike him in the heart as he turned around, I looked at the group of samurai and horsemen behind me, there were hundreds more than the distraction we fought, I and many other archers launched arrows at the enemy but the sheer amount of enemies let them push through the rain of arrows. I grabbed my quiver with three arrows left and ran towards the army of pike-man and foot soldiers while still panicking, our samurai have dispersed and ran into the distance. I curse to myself but yell out
"Archers retreat to the pike-man!"
Surprisingly enough almost every archer listened and followed me as I ran down the small distance between us and the foot soldiers, the sound of arrows being released echoed throughout the battlefield, I ran to the army while being thankful that the town had already been evacuated. I then turned around as the other hundred of archers followed me. I yelled out once more
"Pike-men to the front, swordsmen grab the shields and protect the pike-men! They are our only protection against the horses!"
The men listened once again, maybe it was fear, panic, or just a need for leadership but a majority of them listened. I felt more confident before saying again
"Archers fire until you have one shot left, make sure you don't miss!"
Suddenly a large volley of arrows rained upon the enemy who were in the enclosed space of a town. I launch both my arrows until I have just one left. The pike-men and sword men have set up and the enemy has emerged from the town. I then yelled out
"Hold your ground, archers only fire when you can kill otherwise save your shot!"
I look around the battlefield only to notice the scarecrows with armor, I run over to the armor as I hear the clash of fighting behind me and I look for a sword or dagger of some kind in order to fight only for an arrow to strike me in the leg. I get up in pain and turn around as the roar of battle rang out. I grabbed my bow back up and ran back to the fight only for a pain to hit my side. I looked to my right to see an arrow wound, the arrow was so deeply embedded inside my stomach that I was shocked I didn't notice it earlier but I guessed the rage of the battle let me ignore the pain. I yanked the bloody arrow out and launched it from my arrow at the mass of enemy soldiers on horseback.
Now that I was closer with the battle the enemy was a large group of around two hundred total samurai using bows on horseback and around fifty swordsman and pike-men charging through the ranks of the army. Our pike-men and shields were slowly being destroyed as the enemy army plowed forward. I continued running towards the army only to realize that almost no more of our archers were firing. I seen many archers either throwing down their bow and running away or taking out their knifes and running towards the enemy in a suicidal mission. I chuckled as I grabbed my final arrow and launched it at a samurai on a horse only for the samurai to instantly fall of as the arrow hit. I smiled as I threw down my bow and took out my knife.
I was charging at the enemy with nothing but my knife, my heart was beating harder than ever before as my side ached and my leg had an arrow going straight through it, the only reason I moved forward was to remove those bloody revolutionaries from my town. I bent over and grabbed a broken spear on the ground acting like a makeshift javelin as I threw it at the clump of horsemen, the chance of us winning were slim but that didn't matter I grabbed a sword on the ground only to feel a large smack on my right, I flew onto the ground and spat blood. I look to my right to see a horseman with a large spear. The horseman easily spun the spear above his head before launching it inside my stomach. I was shocked, my final moments weren't thinking about my life or slowly closing my eyes, all that happened was the feeling of emptiness.
