Unknown waves of power slowly pull me from my dreams while a strong flapping sound echoes around. Heavy vibrations proceed to startle me while the rumbling that follows puts me on edge.

Suddenly a hand softly lands on my head while a familiar chuckle sounds above me. “Don’t worry Randvi it’s a friend”

Curious I look up to see the smoothly aged face of my master whose expression radiates endless patience and wisdom. Once he gives me a kind smile and a scratch behind my ear all worries disappear and I lay my head back down on his lap while eyeing the intruder.

A massive but slender dragon maybe forty meters tall with scales a frosty cerulean blue stands before us, a frigid radiance originates from its being while the ground slowly freezes under its claws. Its membranous wings span maybe a hundred meters wide and are covered in what seems to be a razor sharp layer of ice.

As soon as the dragon meets my gaze its lips curl in an attempt to smile but it only reveals an eerie row of sharp fangs. It seems it realized its mistake as a bright blue glow envelops the entire dragon while it slowly shrinks into a feminine body with tall slender ears that resembles a Finnir of roughly twenty meters tall. Her scales slowly fade revealing a pale skin which is complimented by long silvery-white bluish hair.

Amused by the show happening before me I stretch my limbs and get up to take a better look. Once her face becomes visible a tender and surprisingly warm smile greets us both.

A mere moment later her transformation seems complete and after taking a few steps she kneels down before my master. “I am Reina the one they refer to as the Goddess of Eternity. Due to my young age and resulting ignorance about the world, the acting leader of the Abanu-ten, Allivaii has sent me here to request for the guidance of the God of Wisdom Xenagras”

With a gentle chuckle my master softly strokes my head before standing up. “Goddess of Eternity, before I can decide to bestow my wisdom upon you, I need to know why you’ve come here.”

While it remains silent, I can’t help but notice the dragon in front of me is both scared and in awe. Her body trembles ever so slightly and her smell exudes stress.

[If master hadn’t bestowed on me this evolution, I would have never noticed any change in her behavior, impressive.]

Lazy from sleeping too long I yawn widely before slowly grooming my paw and ears, completely ignoring the plight of the dragon before me.

“Master Allivaii sent me to req-”

[Hehe poor thing, get to know master.]

Concealing my amusement I peek towards my master after he raised his hand to interrupt her. “Child, I did not ask who sent you, I would like to know what led you to come here.”

Knowing that her next reply would decide if she were to become my master’s pupil or be temporary mana shackled, I can’t help but pay attention.

For a long time it remains silent as the dragon has clearly realized master’s meaning behind this question.

Five minutes..

Ten minutes..

Thirty minutes..

Just when it has remained silent for an hour, the woman raises her head and gazes at my master. “Sir.. No, great Lord of Wisdom, while I cannot find out what the exact meaning is behind your words… I, Reina the frost dragon have come here today in the hopes of gaining a master which could show me the ways of life, which could help me pave my own way through life. As Goddess of Eternity the world has given me eternal life. While I cannot decide if this is a blessing or a curse, I do know that I require wisdom to make the most of this long life.”

With a chuckle my master nods “Well spoken child, whilst you could have answered with a simple word, you took the time to recognize your true feelings and desires. This is a trait you will need very often in the path before you. I accept your request and from today you shall be my apprentice.”

As if the words arrived per mail instead of speech, it takes some time before her face lights up “You have my eternal gratitude Master of Wisdom”

With another chuckle my master replies “Master or just Xenagras is plenty, now follow me inside so we can properly introduce ourselves.”

With a flick of his wrist a silvery door appears out of nowhere and after opening it he looks my way “Randvi, please join us as well”

After nodding and taking a step, everything suddenly turns dark before me and all sensations fade into nothingness.

--

“Master!”

[Eh…?]

“Master Randvi!”

[Ehhr… go away… I had such a nice dream…]

“Master Randvi, I am extremely sorry to have disturbed you in your slumber, but it is an emergency. There is a strange storm brewing above Xenagras city, it appears to disturb the world’s laws itself!”

Hearing the measly Finnir’s words a deep sigh escapes my mouth before I open my eyes. Instantly my vision is flooded by disturbances in the world’s energy and I jump up causing the forest to tremble. Gazing into the direction of the city, the clear blue sky is covered in a whirlpool of dark purple, blue and black causing the hairs on my back to rise.

“Master Randvi, what do we do?!”

Looking down I see the man who woke me standing before the entire sentient population of the forests.

Looking back at the brewing storm a sense of dread washes over me [This storm… It’s far beyond my powers… it’s too late already, if it doesn’t shatter this entire realm it will destroy most of it…]

[Haa... Master.. Do I wish you were still here…]

Having noticed the awkward silence, the man once again speaks up. “Master?”

Looking towards the group, I slowly shake my head “It is too late, I cannot do anything to repair this, space is already too unstable to flee through dimensions and on foot we would never get enough distance between us and that storm.”

Immediately the crowd becomes restless and even screams of panic erupt from them. Realizing the elders won’t be able to suppress the panic if it spreads, I raise my voice.

“Everyone! I will not tell you to calm down, or that it’ll be okay. There are few options left, grab your loved ones and flee, try to get as far away as you can. Or try to make peace with what you’ve had and experienced, spend the time left with your loved ones.”

A younger woman raises her voice “Master! We’ve followed your teachings, we all owe our lives to you. Wherever you go, we go. Tell us, what will you do?”

Baffled by her loyalty even in face of disaster I’m unable to reply for a while. Knowing my words would cause everyone to give up their attempts to run weighs heavily on my shoulders but eventually I decide to reply.

“My life has been plentiful, I’ve seen many wonders, I’ve learned almost all there is to know. I think it’s time I learn what there is beyond the void.”

“You’re staying then?”

Looking at the woman I nod my head “Yes child, I will stay.”

An eerie silence follows before the group splits without making a sound, many reach for their loved ones and immediately disappear from sight, some give up and collapse on the ground, yet the majority remains standing in front of me.

[Haa… Master, I do not know what happened to you, nor what happened to Reina, but if you’ve moved on, I shall soon finally be with you.]

For the first time in millennia, I recall my early memories outside of dreams and they immediately overwhelm me. Everything from the day master rescued me from imminent death, to the day he and Reina left without me. It all repeats before my eyes and while I endlessly gaze at the exponentially growing storm before me, tears form in my eyes.

Suddenly the storm rapidly retreats into the size of a pinhead.

[Thank you Master.]

Just an instant after I’ve finished that thought the pinhead explodes and swallows everything at an astonishing speed. The hundreds of kilometers between us are bridged in but a moment. I feel one last tear rolling down my nose before everything vanishes.

--

Suddenly being shaken by my shoulder, it feels as if my heart leapt into my throat and I bewilderedly jump up only to realize I fell asleep on my desk. Confused, emotional and drowsy I glance around the classroom to see what happened.

When my eyes meet the silvery irises of Emma she gives me a stern frown “Finally you’re awake. If the teacher had walked in you’d be in trouble”

Still in a daze, I gaze at her gentle, fair skinned face framed by long platinum hair. Her painstakingly maintained eyebrows furrowed together in an attempt to look stern actually make her look quite pretty and kind. Her pale makeup-less skin together with the black mascara applied to her eyelashes almost make her look like a Goddess of old. While the crossed arms in front of her rather curved chest together with her black pencil skirt and sky blue blazer cause her to look much more mature than a fifteen year old.

Realizing I’ve been staring at her face for quite some time, I chuckle softly and scratch the back of my head “Hehe.. Morning”

With a deep sigh she shakes her head before greeting me with a placid smile and sitting down. Once I’ve picked up my chair and sat back down at the desk, she nudges my arm. “So. Been up all night again?”

Blushing in self consciousness an awkward smile forms on my face “No.. I went to bed at four, but saw the clock strike six before I finally knocked out.”

Visibly agitated she raises her eyebrow “And your alarm?”

Faking a soft whistle I look away at the suspended ceiling “Seven thirty”

Immediately I feel a hard smack on the back of my head and squeak “Ow! What was that good for?!”

Pouting I softly rub my head and look back into her angry yet concerned eyes causing her to sigh once more “Why so early?! Did you forget classes start at ten today?”

Meekly I shake my head before gazing and poking at the worn out white veneer of the desk “Nah.. needed to publish some articles on the site and respond to questions, then had to go to the shelter to tend to the cats seeing my coworker is out of town because of family issues. Of course I had to eat and shower as well”

She clearly tried to keep a poker face but the faint twitch in her eyebrow reveals her distress while she leans towards me and whispers “Shower? You normally do so in the evening no?”

“Nightmares and hyperrealistic dreams, in fact.. I just had another one.”
