Chapter 16: Fresh air

Completely ignoring the drowsiness of her sister Khloe leaps towards her and grabs her hands "Sis! It got approved!"

Zhloe immediately freezes "They approved?!"

When Khloe nods so rapidly she looks like a stroboscope Zhloe looks at me in pure joy "I'm so glad!"

With a smile I lie my head back down on the backrest before focusing on my breathing letting my claws fade which in turn makes her gasp "You already gained control over that?"

Smiling I look over my shoulder at Felix "Yes, thanks to Felix"

He chuckles "I barely did a thing"

With a smile Zhloe walks towards the kitchen. When a few moments later she crackles with a piece of plastic I can't suppress the urge and leap towards her.

"Whoa… want some cheese?"

Happily nodding makes all of them chuckle. Smiling she grabs a slice and folds it up. "Here" When she holds it near my nose I take a sniff and for some reason get the urge to slap it. When I lift up my hand, which once again has turned into a claw she taps my nose. "It's food not a toy"

Blushing I sniff again before biting in and gently pulling it out of her hand causing her to chuckle "Silly"

Blushing brighter I quickly run back to the couch where I sit down and snack on the cheese while purring loudly.

"You really are a cute one"

Engrossed in the flavor of the cheese, I ignore Khloe before yawning when I've eaten it.

"Tired?"

Shaking my head I smile "Nah, just lazy"

Felix chuckles once again "Maybe it's time to let you out"

As if told I won the lottery I gaze up "Outside?!"

In turn he looks at Zhloe "Mind if I take her into the courtyard?"

She shakes her head with a smile "Just don't come back with your tail between your legs when you end up getting mauled"

Laughing he shakes his head "I'll be fine" Looking at my feet he turns his head "Does she… need shoes?"

She remains silent for a moment before shaking her head "Let's see how it goes without, I don't really want to know what happens when they change while wearing shoes. It'd probably hurt"

Imagining the scenario a shiver runs down my back "No shoes"

Chuckling he motions me to follow "Then come"

Leaping off the couch I eagerly follow him out of the room.

"Starting to accept the change?"

Slowly nodding I gaze towards the end of the hall "It's strange… I talked to her in my dreams"

Smiling he turns his head "Leone you mean?"

When I nod he smiles a bit wider "I can sort of relate, I have had talks in my dreams as well… Although I don't know with who as I could never see more than a vague blur"

Gazing at my hand I can't help but sigh "She told me that I'm becoming, or well… am her reincarnation, that I would become the new Warrior Goddess"

For a moment he remains silent "That's ehh… That's quite something"

"She also told me to get stronger"

Smiling he nods "Well you are still quite young so you'll have plenty of time for that"

Nodding slowly I chuckle while I turn my hand into a claw and back "I still wonder if I'm fourteen or nineteen"

Chuckling he replies "A very mature fourteen year old I'd say. You are rather quick witted and smart for someone your age."

Sighing softly I look down "I spend most of my time focusing on getting my degree and earning money… but yeah…"

Gently he shakes his head and places his hand on my head "Then you got annexed?"

"Yeah… and before that the available resources kept me down"

Chuckling he smiles "Very smart girl then"

Blushing slightly I keep following him down the halls only to squeal loudly when I see it's snowing outside, my eyes widen and I run to the windows gazing at the sky.

"It snows here nearly the entire year, you like it?"

Gazing outside I nod excitedly "It's my favorite!"

He chuckles "Then come over here" Suddenly I realize he's holding a jacket when he puts it on and zips it shut.

With a push he opens a heavy composite and glass door causing a fresh breeze to flow into the hall. My instincts immediately take over, my claws form on hand and feet while I leap outside.

Bursting into laughter he yells after me "Do come back when you get cold!"

After nodding and crazily dashing through the snow that reaches to my shins, I occasionally leap into the air to catch that one specific snowflake that's slightly bigger than the others.

After a while I trip over something and land on hand and feet only to continue running and leaping into the air to bite into said snowflakes instead.

"How are you not freezing?!"

Happy's voice distracts me just enough to almost trip over my own arms so after barely managing to stop without eating snow, I look up and see both her and Felix wearing thick winter parkas.

Standing up I walk towards them and shrug "I guess it's the fur"

Looking down my shirt I see even my chest is covered so I pull up my shirt causing Felix to look away "see"

Happy nearly bursts into laughter but acts surprised instead "Dear… put your shirt back down, you're showing quite some stomach"

Brightly red I immediately pull my shirt back down while gazing at the ground "I uhh… I didn't exactly think about that being a possibility"

Now Felix bursts into laughter and ruffles my hair "You really are an oddball you know that?"

Embarrassed I gaze down at my black furred paw "I… still don't know"

Happy turns her head in question "Know what?"

Dropping myself backwards into the snow I sigh "Who I am or even who I was, I only remember shards of certain memories. I mean take my best friend, I only know she's my friend because I have about five or six memories about her. I can't remember my parents let alone my own name… I only know it was Naomi because Zhloe said so."

Smiling faintly she hunches down to place her finger on my forehead "Does it really matter who you used to be? I mean, your old life is gone, your city-state is abandoned, your friends have grown older in their own lives… I don't mean to make you sad, but instead of looking at the past, try to look ahead at all the people you're still going to meet."

With a deep sigh I sit up and softly pat the snow leaving behind a paw print "But.. that's all still so uncertain"

Softly chuckling she nods "The future is never set in stone, but focus on today, on tomorrow, get to know your new body, your strengths and your weaknesses"

Gazing at the paw print I sigh deeper "I guess… can't do much more for now"

Felix nods and smiles "Just remember that besides, Zhloe, Khloe and Danny, Happy and I are there for you as well"

Smiling I drop myself back into the snow "Thanks, appreciate that"

After a long silence, I roll around before getting up and wildly shaking my head to get rid of all the snow.

"Ready to go back?"

Nodding I begin to groom my paws before shivering "uhu, getting a bit cowld"

Chuckling at my distorted speech he nods "Alright, let's go then"

After yet another nod, I follow them inside where I slowly let my fur and paws fade back to my skin and hands.

"Oh? Able to control it now?"

Looking up at Happy, I nod "Yeah, not completely but during rest I can"

Smiling she reaches out for my ear and softly tickles behind it instantly making me purr and giggle "Aaah no, stop, that feels weird"

She chuckles and gives me another tickle before removing her hand "Hey, got to go, Samira asked me to help prep the mission"

Felix replies with a nod "Sure thing, I'll be there in a few"

Before she's even gone I already stare at Felix in curiosity "Mission?"

Smiling he nods and continues walking before replying "We're a military facility remember? Although this is just a simple recon. We've gotten word that some of the abandoned cities are occupied by gangs and other groups that threaten and attack travelers or even other military squadrons."

"Oh, I see"

Chuckling he ruffles my hair "Nothing for you to worry about, you just be lazy and do what you want for now"

Smiling we continue walking towards the living room where when entering I notice Danny already left and look at Zhloe "Danny also preparing for the mission?"

She nods before looking up from her tablet.

With a chuckle Felix raises his hand in greeting "Well hello! And goodbye, I believe Leone had fun outside, but I really have to catch up with them before they start scolding me for being late."

Smiling I giggle softly "Thanks Felix"

Placing his hand on my head he smiles "You're welcome Miss Purrs a lot"

Blushing causes him to burst into laughter as he leaves the room causing it to echo through the hallway.

When he's out of range I look back into the room "I don't purr that much do I?"

Khloe giggles "You do"

Blushing brighter I wildly shake my head "I do not! Do I?"

Looking up from her tablet she chuckles "Even though you do it less than before you still like to roll the 'r' when you talk"

With a deep sigh I hang my shoulders and look down.

"Khloe leave her be, Leone you don't purr that much. Besides it's special and cute when you do, so don't worry about it"

With a hesitant nod I sit down on the couch before looking up "Say… am I allowed to rread?"
