Meeting Mother, A Talk Between Two Parents
His mother, Li Rou, also lived in the core region. However, since Xue Feng usually spent his days in the office or commanding the guards, she usually stayed in a courtyard near the maid dormitories.
Li Rou originally was a famed archer and little sister of Xue Feng's sworn brother Li Huo. However, after stepping away from the battlefield and receiving their aristocratic titles, Li Huo served as a matchmaker for the two, and they eventually married.
Li Rou was a gentle woman who, after stepping away from the battlefield, began to focus her time on alchemy and to raise spiritual plants for the Dukedom instead of archery and war games. She transformed her courtyard into a herb garden that, if taken out, could be worth almost as much as a city.
As Xue Bai began recalling details of his mother from the game, he noticed that he had finally reached her courtyard. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and stepped in. This time he wouldn't take no for an answer.
As Xue Bai entered, he noticed the extensive greenery throughout the courtyard. Various fruit trees and beautiful shrubbery littered the garden giving the environment the feel of a forest but still maintaining the noble identity of a Duke's Wife.
His mother was in the garden, tending to a large tree in the center. Looking at that tree, even a layman like Xue Bai could tell it was extremely precious. Even though he couldn't sense Spiritual Qi yet, the tree seemed to distort the air around it. And the air distortions intensified on the branches of the tree where four blood-red fruits hung. Looking at the fruits, Xue Bai felt a strong temptation to run up and take one for his own.
Shaking away the feeling, he walked up to his mother and asked his question, "Mother, I want to learn how to use the sword."
Li Rou, however, continued to tend the tree in front of her as if she didn't hear Xue Bai.
Seeing this, Xue Bai sighed. While he hadn't gained many memories from his predecessor, he remembered what she was doing. Li Rou had wanted a daughter, and with how beautiful Xue Bai was growing up, she treated him like one.
Dressing him in fancy dresses and teaching him how to use makeup and other womanly activities was normal for the young Xue Bai.
With Li Rou always treating him as the daughter she never had was also why Xue Bai didn't want to ask his mother for permission. She wanted him to learn tea ceremony, not how to fight with a sword.
However, Xue Bai wouldn't take no for an answer this time, so he began to try and persuade his mother. "Mother, surely you must know what I'm here to ask for. Yes, while I know you don't want me to learn the sword and continue to be your little child, the world is dangerous. So the earlier I begin to train, the better I can protect myself, you, and father."
Hearing Xue Bai's convincing argument, Li Rou shivered for a moment. However, she didn't respond and continued to tend to the fruit tree.
Xue Bai thought Li Rou was ignoring him still, so he moved in closer to speak again until he heard her sigh.
"Bai'er, I'm not against you training for the future. I'm just scared for you. The cultivation world is dangerous and full of treachery. While I know with our standing in the Empire you will eventually enter it, as your mother, how can I not worry?" Li Rou finally replied.
Xue Bai was shocked. He hadn't expected such a response. However, he could understand how Li Rou felt. The child she raised so preciously now wanted to learn how to fight. It was obvious how she would feel. But, the world was dangerous, and avoiding the fight would only bring more danger. Only by facing the opposition head-on could he ensure his safety.
Just as Xue Bai was going to respond, his mother finally turned and looked at him,
"I will allow you to practice. However, I don't wish for you to learn the sword first from the father. I will teach you archery first, and before you say no, this is the most, I will compromise. So it's this or nothing." Looking at her son for the first time since he entered the courtyard, Li Rou spoke.
Thinking about her offer Xue Bai felt archery was something he would learn eventually, so why not learn it from a famed archer like his mother? The Spatial attribute Martial Veins he planned to get synergized well with archery. The idea of teleporting a volley of arrows in front of the enemy or making an arrow change directions mid-flight excited the otaku, Xue Bai.
So knowing he shouldn't push his mother for more, Xue Bai agreed and replied, "When can we start, mother."
"There's no rush, Bai'er. You're still young. We will start next week. Mother needs time to prepare a training schedule and a place for you to practice comfortably," Li Rou gently said before a glint flashed into her eyes, and she continued, "However, there are some new dresses I bought. Follow me. You can try them on."
Xue Bai had turned to leave after hearing the first part, but when he listened to the second part only started leaving faster.
Expecting this, Li Rou swept her arm, and a gush of wind sent Xue Bai tumbling backward into her arms.

"Bai'er, it's only a few dresses. It won't take long. You can leave after I see how they look on you." Li Rou spoke as she carried Xue Bai into her bedroom.
Xue Bai was only allowed to leave after he tried on the dozen or so dresses she had tailored for him recently. And while he could confidently say that while he was a fan of cross-dressing, the dresses his mother had tailored for him were pretty comfortable. He would've worn them if they weren't blatantly women's clothing.
So after trying on the last dress, fearing that Li Rou would pull out old clothes for him to try on, Xue Bai quickly left her courtyard.
Seeing her son leave so quickly, Li Rou sighed, he was growing up, and she wouldn't be able to continue her hobby much longer. Stopping her train of thought, she remembered what she was going to do, left her courtyard, and made her way to Xue Feng's office, knowing he would be there.
Without bothering to knock, she entered, where she was met by her husband slumped over his desk reading reports.
Xue Feng, hearing someone dared to barge into his office, stood up ready to yell until he saw the culprit, which extinguished all of his anger, and replaced it with love and gentleness.
"Honey, what brings you here?" Then, putting his work to the side, Xue Feng asked.
Li Rou spent most of the day in her garden tending to her flowers or leading the maids, while Xue Feng led the Dukedom. They usually congregated at night, where they talked about their day.
Before speaking, Li Rou checked her surroundings with her spiritual sense, and only after making sure they were alone, she asked, "Husband, have you noticed anything strange from Bai'er? He seems different, almost like he's planning something."
Not expecting his wife to detect so much from her short meeting with Xue Bai, he asked how she noticed.
"Besides him asking us to train, which he would've done before, he seemed almost to enjoy our session today. While I still had to drag him into my courtyard before he would struggle every time I put on a dress for him. This time he was so cooperative." Li Rou explained.
Not expecting such an answer Xue Feng was momentarily speechless.
'Maybe he just finally accepted his fate. You've been doing this twice a week for the past four years. If anything, I'm surprised he was still struggling.' However, Xue Feng would never bring these thoughts to light.
So, after regaining his composure, he explained what happened to Xue Bai yesterday. From the fall to the scroll Xiao'er had copied from his room.
Li Rou was silent as she began to process the information, and Xue Feng didn't want to rush her, so they sat silently for a few minutes. Until Li Rou broke the silence with a dramatic proposition, "What if Xue Bai was possessed, you've surely heard of those stories, a powerhouse taking advantage of a young dying child, and they steal their bodies."
Hearing his wife mention such a thing, Xue Feng was instantly furious. Just the possibility of an old fossil stealing the body of his child made him livid.
"Bai'er had only fallen. It was nothing even remotely life-threatening. While I had speculations of my own, such a dramatic event is impossible. Besides, if such an expert wanted a body, why would he choose Bai'er? Even though our identity is prestigious to such a person who could do that, it would mean nothing to him!" The more Xue Feng spoke, the angrier he got, and towards the end, he subconsciously released some of his aura, almost destroying his office.
Realizing that, Xue Feng calmed himself down and took a seat before continuing, "Besides, if it were a possession Old Luo or I would have noticed something wrong with Bai'er. And why would an expert ask permission to train from us tiny Domain Lord Realm Ants."
Li Rou also agreed she just wanted to put the idea out there, so she explained herself, "I naturally think the same, but it's always a possibility. The stronger you get, the more life matters. So possessing a dying child or dying themselves would be an easy decision for a powerhouse to make."
Nodding at her words, Xue Feng then put forth his hypothesis, "My guess is that after the fall, he somehow had a glimpse into the future. Look at the scroll. For example, Both this "Celestial Void Fruit" and Huo Long would only come to value in the future and not in the near future either. This is years from now."
While it was undoubtedly an absurd theory, it was the most logical one, and things like this, while rare, have happened before. For example, a genius almost dying and awakening memories of a past life. Or a different timeline has happened before.
"Whether he has these memories or not, he's our son. As long as we continue to raise him with all our hearts, nothing could go wrong. Even if he has memories, he's still asking us for permission before doing things, so the memories couldn't have changed him much." Xue Feng finally said, bringing their conversation to an end.
Li Rou agreed, so she left Xue Feng alone to his work and returned to her courtyard.
