His eyes opened suddenly with a tinge of panic as he stared at the ceiling above him with some unwillingness. Even if he hated his old life, leaving everything behind to come here still didn't make him happy.

[Memory System Active. Please note this is not a sentient System. You can view your Balance at any time. You gain more Points by completing hidden tasks. You have been alloted 100 Points.]

He didn't even react, staring at the ceiling with dead eyes. Even though he didn't have much hope, he could at least hope that the System would eventually give him a way back.

With an usually smooth motion, he sat upright and looked around the luxurious room he now sat in, taking in the expensive ornate wooden decorations and exquisite paintings hanging on the walls.

"At least I'm not poor this tim-" He stopped speaking because his voice, although he knew it wouldn't be the same, wasn't even on the same spectrum anymore.

It was light and airy, and lingered in the air even after he clamped his mouth shut. He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath to calm himself down and then he got up, taking special care to not look down as he approached a mirror.

"Well. I won't say this is a total surprise but seriously?" He stared at the black haired woman staring back at him, with sparkling azure eyes and a cute button nose.

"I'm a woman..." He turned his body to the side and inspected his figure, feeling a bit relieved he wasn't extremely voluptuous because the bad things he heard that accompanied that frightened him.

"She's not bad. If I weren't in here, I wouldn't even approach due to my unremarkableness, but now I can see it daily." He looked and realized she wasn't very tall, reaching about five seven but her legs and figure were very good.

"System? Care to show me anything useful?" His voice made him sigh again softly because it would take some getting used to before he could accept that the voice was his own.

[System can unlock previous memories for 100 Points. Please note, the memories will not all appear at once and will be unlocked gradually. Good luck.]

"I asked for something usefu- Forget it, you aren't even sentient. Do I have a status screen? Anything that could help me now?" He stared when a small panel appeared showing a name.

[Everleigh Addison]

"Wow, I now know my name. Is that it? Seriously? It's like wanting to get a rocket in prehistoric times." He knew not only was it a different world, he didn't have a clue what was the norm here.

"Everleigh? It's not bad. Way better than my old one if anything. I don't think I've ever met an Everleigh actually." He frowned and mulled it over and decided while looking at the mirror although this wasn't who he always was, it was who he would be now for the foreseeable future.

"If I die again, will I get another chance?" Everleigh asked and wasn't surprised when the system didn't respond. If this chance he had now was one in a near infinite amount, then he wasn't so eager to try his luck again.

"Everleigh Addison. Sounds pretty good actually." He turned and looked at the room, appreciating the king sized bed and thick curtains hanging from the windows.

"Even if I'm not extremely wealthy here, at least I'm not dirt poor like before. You said I can get memories for Points? Redeem memories then." Everleigh spoke and a small -100 flashed in her eyes and then her mind sank into another place.

...

"F*ck!" Everleigh spat out with astonishment because using one hundred points, he actually unlocked sixty years of memories,  but looking at his body in the mirror, the woman he could see could be said to be in her early twenties.

[To redeem further memories, please acquire more Points.]

"So she's actually an old hag?" Everleigh mumbled softly because in those memories, although it seemed to be an instant in reality, he had seen sixty years worth of the original Everleigh's life.

When he stared again in the mirror, Everleigh lifted a finger to the woman's full pink lips and lifted it slightly, revealing an unusually long canine, and it was the same on both sides.

"So vampires are a thing. Just great. At least I wasn't a human in this world, who knows what could have happened?" Everleigh took her finger back from her mouth and looked at her pale hands and realized there was neither a flaw or blemish on either.

"So she apparently has been here before three decades back, and the richest person in the city was directly raised from her hands to where they are now." Everleigh frowned because even though he didn't want to assume her identity, there was little else he could do now.

"I'm not who I was before, I called myself Everleigh before, but still considered myself a man? Isn't that pitiful? Women are not inferior to men, and Everleigh definitely isn't either. So who am I?" Everleigh stared at himself, wanting to find even a hint of the old him and failed.

"If I can't be who I was before, then I can only be Everleigh. I was a man before, but I'm now a woman. Clinging to who I was will only make this harder for me." Everleigh shook her head and then focused again.

"If not for that man, then I wouldn't be able to hide my indiscretions here." Unlike those vampires from Earth, the vampires of this world didn't usually leave their prey alive.

"If I can't go back, then I can only enjoy what I now have. Before, I was poor and unable to enjoy life, why will I let a mere gender change stop me? I will enjoy this life in your stead Everleigh." Everleigh spoke to her reflection resolutely and then turned and left the bedroom.

"Even though the dead bodies were hidden, there's still the matter of the disappearances to deal with. If he involves himself too much, then it will look suspicious." Everleigh went down a flight of stairs covered by a lush carpet and walked to the kitchen.

"Other vampires don't usually drop by, so I am rather safe for now. Even if they did, vampires don't tend to interfere with each other unless they're that bored." Everleigh opened her transparent fridge and smiled when she saw a bottle of unopened red wine inside.

"Since I am here, might as well make the best of it. Cheers." Everleigh drank directly from the bottle, the chill she should feel if she were human not registering, enjoying the smooth liquid in her mouth.
