Chapter 13: Chapter 12: A woman named Charlotte

Sitting at a table in the mess hall I watched our new arrival eat the food Riel prepared for her.

Keeping my gun trained on her as I did so.

I don't trust her as far as I can throw her.

Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she's not dangerous.

So until I get some answers my gun isn't going to stop being pointed at her.

Looking at me and the gun in my hand a she ate the woman didn't even flinch. She simply finished up her food and then stretched afterwards.

She is fully clothed now by the way. Currently she's wearing a hoodie and some matching sweat pants.

I couldn't just let her walk around in her underwear after all.

No matter how nice her body looks.

And it does look nice.

I got a full view when Riel forced her out of her space suit entirely back in the cargo hold and then dragged her to her room to clothe her before feeding her.

No matter how much the woman cursed and protested.

It was actually quite funny to watch.

Just thinking about it brings a soft smile to my face.

I dropped my smile though, once the woman focused all her attention on me.

When she did so Riel, who has been standing next to her watching her like a hawk, moved a bit closer.

"So, are you ready to have that conversation now?" I asked the woman.

"I am." She said. Putting a blank expression on her face.

"Alright then, first off who are you?" I asked the woman. "Also it won't do you any good to lie. My maid here is an AI in a bio-synthetic body. So she'll know if your being deceitful." I explained.

"That's right you worthless scum, so don't try anything funny. Otherwise I won't hesitate to dispose of you out of the airlock." Riel coldly said the woman.

The woman looked at Riel with a confused expression and then to me but I simply shrugged my shoulders.

In turn she nodded, placing the same blank expression back on her face.

"To answer your question my name is Charlotte." The woman told me.

"Charlotte what?" I asked her.

"I'd rather not say." She told me.

"You do you think you are?!" Riel said to Charlotte. "Did my master not just ask you-"

Before Riel could continue I raised a hand, silencing her.

"Be grateful my master has stopped me you swine." Riel told Charlotte.

Whose expression isn't changing in the slightest.

'I think she might be a kuudere.' I thought.

Eh, I can deal with it.

"You don't have to tell me your last name. That's fine. But you do have to tell me why you were in a crate on a vessel belonging to a group of known raiders." I said.

"They attacked the previous vessel I was on." Charlotte began. "I was on a mining frigate doing some work. We were heading towards a settlement inside of Union territory when those two ships ambushed us. We didn't have time to do anything. They disabled our engines and put out jamming  signals so we couldn't call for help. That's why I did the only thing I could." She said. "Once I heard the raiders were boarding us I slipped on one of the spacesuits and hid in one of the cargo crates. In hopes that the raiders would move me onto their ship where I would find a chance to escape later."

"Pretty risky stunt you pulled." I said. "What if the raiders had found you?"

If they had Charlotte would've become their plaything I know it in my heart. She's pretty and most pirates and raiders are worse than some hardened criminals. That's what GNet said when I researched them and what the game depicted in certain aspects as well, even though it wasn't too explicit.

"If that had happened I would've killed myself." Charlotte said.

And from the look in her eyes right now I can tell she is serious.

"I will never be anyone's plaything or toy. I'd rather die than end up like that." She said, heat in her words.

"Understood." I said. "So, you were saying you slipped on a spacesuit and hid in a crate?"

Charlotte nodded. "Yes, that's right. And my plan paid off. The raiders moved the crate I was in over to one of their ships. The moment after this happened I started planning for ways to make my escape. Then all of a sudden I felt the ship rocking, and found myself floating through space with damage to my suit. Disrupting my oxygen supply." She explained.

"Yeah, that was our fault." I admitted. "But in our defense we had no idea who you were. You could've been one of the raiders."

"I get that." Charlotte said. "So that's my story. Anything else you want to know?"

"What happened to the crew of the frigate you were on?" Riel suddenly asked.

"They all got killed. There was nothing I could do." Charlotte responded.

"Where are you from?" Riel asked.

"The Consortium." Charlotte answered.

Her face then scrunched up like she just swallowed a lemon.

"How old are you?" Riel asked.

"I'm 20 years old." She responded.

"One last thing. Are you associated with the group known as the Red Wolves in any way?" Riel asked. Looking Charlotte straight in the eyes as she did so.

"No." Charlotte immediately answered.

"I see." Riel said. "I have no further questions."

"Neither do I." I spoke.

Charlotte nodded. "So, what happens now?"

"Now, Riel will show you to one of the rooms in the crew quarter of the ship." I explained.

Charlotte looked like she wants to say something, but held her tongue.

Instead she just stood up.

"Thank you." She said.

Riel and Charlotte then left the mess hall.

Once they did I returned to the bridge and took my captain's chair, Riel arriving a few minutes after I did so.

"So, how is our new guest?" Rion asked.

"Highly suspicious." Riel answered her brother.

"She's not wrong." I said.

Don't me wrong, I honestly believe Charlotte's story about how she ended up on the raiders ship.

But I can tell she's definitely hiding something big. She won't share her last name, and there's also just something about her.

There's an air around her that tells me she grew up with money. I can't explain it, but it's there.

So I'm pretty sure she's some rich kid.

Though other than that I have no idea.

Which is why I am surveilling her every movement across Pleiades, as well going to have Riel keep an eye on her.

The silver-haired beauty Charlotte, just what are you hiding?

I will find out sooner or later.
