Chapter 5: Chapter 4: First Battle

As soon as I accelerated Pleiades forward, the enemy vessels opened fire.

"Multiple missiles heading towards us from 3 and 9 o'clock." Riel informed me.

As she did so I preformed a nose-dive.

Just after I did all the missiles launched at us crashed into each other, destroying themselves.

While this happened I made a hard turn to the left.

After doing so I started quickly ascending, getting behind the enemy vessel situated on the far-left. Once I did I launched two torpedoes, scoring a direct hit on the ships engine.

This in turn caused a chain reaction, causing the entire thing ship to ignite and explode. Lighting up the darkness of space with a fiery explosion.

Nice.

One down, four to go.

As soon as the enemy in front of me was down for the count I accelerated towards the remaining ship.

While I did so the three still grouped together launched an intense volley of missiles in our direction, as well released multiple blasts of cannon fire.

As they did so the other remaining ship started working to get behind us.

'Pincer attack huh.' I thought.

They want to trap us from both sides.

Not a bad plan.

But trying to preform such a tactic against Pleiades with the ships they have.

Sorry, but it won't work.

Direction Pleiades upward into an arc I avoided the enemies missiles and cannon fire aimed at us.

But as soon as they saw I evaded their initial volley, the three enemies ships in front of me launched another one. As they did so one of them started accelerating towards us.

'Hoping to get in close to limit our movements huh.' I thought. Knowing exactly why that one ship is heading in our direction.

Again, it's a good plan.

But these guys don't seem to realize just how outmatched they are.

Time for me to show them they picked the wrong ship and crew to fuck with.

Preforming a rotational spin to the left I avoided the second volley of fire directed at us. Leveling out a moment later.

Just as I did the other enemy ship got into position behind us and let loose some missiles.

"Rion, handle that." I said.

"Yes." He said.

Rion then took control of the turrets situated at the stern of the ship and began shooting down the missiles on our ass.

A/N: Stern is the back of a ship.

While I left him to handle that I focused on the enemy approaching in front of us.

Looking at it I took aim with one of our two mass drivers.

Seeing that they were now fully charged, I didn't hesitate.

I fired.

The second after I did so a highspeed purple beam went straight into the bridge of the incoming enemy ship and destroyed it. Traveling all the way through the rest of the ship after this happened, the shot left nothing behind.

Once again the darkness of space lit up with an explosion.

Even bigger than the previous one.

But that's to be expected from a mass driver shot landing a direct hit.

Mass Driver.

It's a kinetic-based weapon.

Once a shell is loaded inside of the driver, electromagnetic forces build upon it and then once it is ready it can be launched at high speeds using speed, mass, and built up kinetic energy to inflict mass damage to enemy vessels.

Pretty nasty stuff.

Unless a ship has powerful shields or a hull capable of withstanding a mass driver shot, then they are shit out of luck. They'll get turned into swiss chesse faster than they can even blink.

Like those bastards in front of me just did.

As the light from the explosion of our second destroyed enemy in this battle faded I accelerated even faster, closing the distance to the two enemy vessels directly in front of us.

But as I did this I noticed them backing off. Trying to cover their retreat by firing off cannon blasts in our direction.

"Oh no, you're not going anywhere." I said.

Preforming another nose-dive I evaded the cannon blasts, and then immediately arced upward getting below the two enemy ships in front of us.

Right after I did so I let loose several torpedoes towards their undersides.

Landing direct hits on both.

While one ship exploded, the other just stopped moving entirely because I simply destroyed its engines.

All of which is according to my plans.

The ship I disabled is the one that bastard who was laughing on the communications link earlier is on.

Why did I does this?

Because once this battle is over I'll scavenge their ship for anything useful. These guys must at least have a map of this area of space. They might have some other valuables as well.

All of which my crew and I will make ours.

It's not personal, just survival.

'Four down, one to go.' I thought.

Just as I did so I looked at one of the many feeds and saw the last operable enemy ship start trailing behind us. Releasing volley after volley of missiles and cannon fire after it did so.

"Incoming." Rion said.

"Brace for impact." I said.

Since we can't  dodge this one.

As the enemy ships volley landed Pleiades lurched a bit, but otherwise was just fine.

"Status." I said.

"Engine and weapons systems still perfectly operational and online." Rion told me.

"Hull integrity only down to 95%." Riel informed me. 

"Good. Keep monitoring both." I spoke.

I then cracked my neck from side-to-side, intending to end this battle here and now.

I maneuvered Pleiades into an upward arc, and then did a half-loop getting behind the last enemy vessel. Once I did so I let loose the second mass driver shot.

Landing a direct hit, and blowing these bastards on board to kingdom come.

As soon as this happened I turned my attention to the last enemy vessel which I had disabled.

Getting in close I used our turrets to destroy their bridge, as well as blow several holes in the sides of their ship.

After I did so several bodies floated into space.

But I paid them no mind and simply focused on their ship.

Time to taste the spoils of war.
