Chapter 7: NATIONAL MARTIAL ARTS TOURNAMENT

An alarm clock went off for the fifth time in the Takase household. This is when Haruhiko finally woke up. Still in quite a daze, Haru noticed something rather weird. The clock on the nightstand beside his bed read 07:45am. The strangest thing he noticed about this morning was the non-existent smell of coffee that usually wakes him up in the morning. Haru got up from his bed and went to go and investigate. There was no one in the dining room, lounge, and kitchen. So, he went back upstairs and checked if his mother was in her room, perhaps.

Haru knocked once...twice... thrice... A little worried now, Haru opened the door. There he saw his mother laying in bed asleep with a bunch of tissues scattered around. (I see, so that’s why you sent me to bed early.) Haru took a seat next to his mother, fixing her messy blonde bangs.

“wuh... what are you doing?”

“Your bangs were messy, so I fixed them for you.”

Cherami let out a little snicker and grabbed Haru, throwing him down beside her.

“Now, what are you doing?”

“Hugging my handsome son, of course.” She held him with a bit more force.

“Ok, ok, not so hard.”

“Sorry for not waking up in time this morning. I’m not feeling so well.”

“It’s fine. I can make breakfast this morning...”

“...Now what do you want for breakfast?”

“A nice warm cup of coffee should be fine. I will make me something to eat later.”

“Ok then.”

While he made the coffee, Haru thought about the reason why his mother was not feeling well, why she had been crying last night. It’s always around this time of the year. She acts this way. All Haru knows is that the last week of this month is when Izumi died. That is what Akitsuki told him.

“Here is your cup of coffee, my lady.”

“Thank you, my handsome son.”

Haru’s job this morning was to escort Asuna Kiriyama to school. She is a 3rd year in class B and also a very important member of the Manjushage. Her parents are the benefactors of the vigilante group. They also own multiple businesses across the country.

Kazuto assigned Haru this job last night. It was one of the few things part of that meeting’s agenda.

“Good morning Mrs. Kiriyama.”

“Oh, good morning, Haruhiko. Asuna will be down in just a sec. Take a seat while you wait.”

Haru drank a cup of coffee while he waited for Asuna. He has been wanting to speak to Mr. Kiriyama about something, but when asked about his whereabouts, Mrs. Kiriyama told him he was on a business trip overseas.

slightly rushed footsteps went down the stairs.

“Ah, Haruhiko. Good morning.”

“Good morning, Asuna.” Haru placed his empty cup on the coffee table

“We will leave in a bit, ok. I just need to take care of something.”

“Ok.”

“Haru, are you listening?”

“Huh, yeah…i’m listening.”

“You weren’t, you big fat liar! Hmph.”

(Asuna Kiriyama. She is the student council President. loved by by almost everyone. She even has her own fan club at school. Well, two actually… the other one is just a gathering of horny boys. She is also arguably the most attractive student at school.)

“Sorry, so you were saying…”

Asuna looked at Haru with a mischievous smile on her face

“She does look a lot like her, I don’t blame you.”

“That’s in the past, Asuna.”

“Yeah, I know…”

“...It’s all about a blue haired teacher now isn’t it.”

“I keep telling you guys It’s not like that! And would you stop with that smile It’s annoying.”

Haru successfully escorted Asuna to school. This will be his job for some time. Akitsuki and Jotaro were assigned similar jobs. Protecting important members of the Manjushage.

Haru sat at his desk listening to Taichi and yosuke, the topic of the conversation was something about a famous shounen protagnist. Haru was not really listening. There was still a bit of time before class started, so Haru decided to go to the restroom. That is where Aoki told him to meet up."

“Hey, where you off to, Haru?”

“Gotta take a leak.”

There were still a lot of students roaming around the school corridors. Haru first went to buy him a can of coffee from a vending machine before meeting up with Aoki. When Haru arrived at the destination, he noticed that there were no bodyguards. Just Aoki and his unique white hair.

“So, guarding the princess is your job?”

“Yeah, she was in a good mood today. Surprisingly.”

“I see... I called you here to tell you that it was a false alarm.”

“False alarm?”

“Kenny the alchemist has not transferred to our school.”

“But the guy in class B fits the description, right?”

“Yeah... But he ain’t no fighter.”

“I see. Anything else you want to tell me?”

“Yeah, Yokoyama high challenged us.”

“What really?”

“Yeah, and just before the preliminaries too”

“I guess they want to study us before then.”

“Yeah, we will be meeting on the rooftop at lunch break”

The preliminaries Aoki was talking about is the National high school martial arts tournament. A very competitive competition. Furukawa High [Haru’s school] has won the tournament two times in a row. Aoki and Haru were among the stars in both. If they win this year they will be three time champions. a feat no high school in the prefecture has ever achieved.
