“So I can leave him here without you killing him?” Romeo asked as he looked between them.

Adrian nodded slowly while Halo looked at him, he nodded his head too and they watched him leave while he kept looking at them.

Turning to Adrian who still had his eyes on the back door, he asked, “So what happened to you?”

His eyes flicked over to Halo and said as he stared into his green eyes, “Can we speak?”

“Aren’t we?” Halo questioned.

“In private, upstairs,” Adrian said.

Halo didn’t answer him immediately. He turned back to the stove thinking, what does he want from me now? Is it to just cuss me out like he usually does without Romeo around but why would he listen to him? Maybe I should hear him out? No, why should I bother, he’s nothing but a homophobic bastard.

As he turned around, carrying the pot to the island, he poured the meat mix into the pan with the macaroni in it, waiting and said, “No, I don’t want to speak to you.”

“Halo, I just want to apologise for what I’ve been doing to you and Niam,” he spoke.

He looked at him and said, “Wow, you even know his name?”

“Why wouldn’t I? Both of you are openly gay and grab the attention of everyone when you enter a room, especially Niam who has everyone wondering if he is a girl or a boy…”

Halo looked at him as he said this and saw that he had a look of admiration in his eyes. He recalled what Romeo said to him when they met and it changed his mind, “Alright fine, just stop fantasising about Niam, I think Justin wants him.”

Adrian looked at him surprised, “Really?”

“Give me five minutes, I’ll be done soon,” he said.

Before Adrian said anything Halo said, “I know you are the one behind the account, sending me messages about your sexuality and the problems you are having at home.”

Adrian’s eyes widened and his heart thumped in his chest. Halo saw the panic in his eyes and on his face and said, “Don’t worry, only I know.”

Adrian’s lip trembled, he looked over at Halo and asked, “How did you find out?”

Halo smiled at him, “Adrian, your emotions always show on your face. As much as you want to hate me, your eyes give it away. You call me a faggot every time you can only so that you can get used to hearing that word if it is said to you.”

Adrian looked away, Halo basically knew everything about him and here he was. A tear fell down from Adrian’s eye as he mumbled, “I’m sorry.”

Halo crawled over to him and said, “It’s okay, as long as you just stop calling me a faggot from now on. That word does hurt, you know.”

Adrian nodded his head and turned to Halo, Halo quickly got to wiping Adrian’s tears away and he kissed him on the forehead, looking into his eyes he said, “Everything will be okay, you have me now as a brother-in-law, so I’ll back you up when the time comes.”

Adrian let out a weak chuckle and asked, “How did you find out?”

Halo released a sigh and said, “Through Romeo. He wanted to work on the joint project with me and when I asked him if you all will be okay with us working together, he said, the only reason you hate gays was because of your father.”

Adrian’s chest caved in, he shook his head, “How in the world could you piece that it was me?”

Halo grinned, “Oh well not really, I saw how you look at Mason Reeves with love in your eyes and pretend to be his friend -- that is what gives it away.”

Adrian ran his hands over his face and said, “To tell you the truth, I am gay. I have been since I was ten but never was I confident enough to come out, especially when my mother hates gays and my father just left me with her.”

“So what happened? Why did you actually want to speak to me?” He asked.

Adrian pulled Halo to sit down with him and held his hands, “I want to say sorry for everything I did to you and Niam. I wanted to be friends with you, I don’t even like hanging around with my friends, even my ex, it was all just for show to act normal in front of my mother. Everyday she spoke badly about them and I just, I was so scared of her.”

“Okay, okay, okay. I can’t say that I know how you feel, it’s just that you did not need to do any of that. I’m just glad that you didn’t beat us up or that would be worse, just remember from now on, no more homophobic shit,” Halo said as he wiped his tears away.

Adrian let out a sigh and nodded, “I promise, there's one thing I wanted to know.”

“Which is?” He asked.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Adrian asked.

Halo looked at him suspiciously and asked, “Why the sudden interest?”

“You said Justin is interested in Niam, so I am sure you have someone interested in you,” he answered.

Halo nodded his head slowly, he looked at the door that was peering open as a head stuck in and was looking at them. Adrian was wondering why Halo wasn’t answering then looked at the door and saw Romeo looking at them.

“What do you want?” Adrian asked him.

Romeo stepped in saying, “Mason just arrived and was saying some crazy things about you and him being together so I just wanted to know if it was true.”

“But we’re talking here,” Adrian said, embarrassed.

“That can wait, he can’t be fucking you before me,” Romeo said with smirk and instantly regretted it when Halo’s shoe hit him in the face.

Adrian gasped and saw the anger on Halo’s face and instantly connected the dots. He stood up and said, “So Halo’s the one you are interested in?”

Romeo looked at him worried after he said that and before he could clarify things Halo said, “No! Definitely not, I won’t be caught dead with this idiot.”

Romeo’s mouth hung open, “But Halo, I thought you…”

“Don’t you even go there,” Halo warned him.

"But Halo?" He asked stunned.

"No, and that's final," Halo said and stormed out.

Romeo looked at Adrian who was rubbing his chin mischievous gaze as he looked at him. "What?" He asked.

"When were you planning to tell me about Halo?" Adrian asked getting up.

"There's nothing going on," he answered.

"Then you tell me why do you look like you want to run after him and go down on your knees?" He asked.

"What about you? You have to tell me what's going on at home," Romeo said changing the subject.

Adrian sighed then shook his head and went to sit down. He looked at Romeo who threw himself down on a red bean bag.

"I - I'm gay Romeo," Adrian said.

Romeo's head was hanging back but it shot up after he spoke and said with an angry look in his eyes, "Didn't I tell you to stop with that Romeo shit?"

"Is that all you heard?" Adrian asked stunned.

His head fell back as he said, "Man, I've known since we were kids. You look at Mason too much and avoid him like the plague, but still get worried when he is not around."

Adrian sighed and covered his face asking, "Was I that obvious?"

"Pretty much yes but Mason never noticed," he answered.

"Speaking of which, you told Halo and Mason about me, yes, they both told me," he said with a glare.

Romeo slowly lift his head to look at him and said, "Mason was in a fucked up space about his brother and Alexandra. I told him to open his eyes about her whole situation because otherwise, he would have looked at you in disgust too when you eventually came out to him and don't tell me you would have been okay with the rejection when you are terrified of your mother."

Adrian pulled his legs onto the bed and played with his fingers. The tears soon started falling and he explained, "I made up with my dad. I apologised to him and his boyfriend but I still don't like him."

"Yeah, your father was probably your first love," Romeo joked.
