Chapter 26: Chapter 25

Niam knocked on the door, and Halo’s mother opened it. She smiled when she saw it was him and said, “Long time no see sweetheart, how have you been?”

“Not good. I miss my best friend. How is he doing?” Niam asked as he walked in and rushed to the kitchen where the smell of baked cakes came from.

He looked at the ten different flavours of cupcakes and asked, “What is with all the cupcakes?”

Angela shook her head and said, “It’s that best friend of yours. Instead of going to school, he is baking in my kitchen or at LaPrince and I prefer it if he wasn’t running up the electricity bill.”

Niam nodded and grabbed a plate from the cupboard and took one of each flavour and said, “I’ll go check up on him.”

“You do that,” she said and started packing the cupcakes in boxes to take to the neighbours.

Niam knocked on the door and yelled, “Hey best friend, open the door. My hands are holding plates.”

Halo raised a brow and got up out of bed. He went to the door and opened it. He looked at the cupcakes and chuckled, “Girl, you eat too much.”

Niam looked at Halo, then burst into tears and said, “I’m pregnant.”

Halo thought it was a joke, but the tears in Niam’s eyes told him he wasn’t kidding. Halo stepped aside and said, “Get your ass in here and explain.”

Halo closed the door and hugged Niam, who put the plates down and hugged him back while he cried, “How did this happen? I thought you were still picking between LiAngelo and Cordell?” Halo asked him.

Niam didn’t answer him and just cried. He needed his best friend so much over the past week, but he didn’t want to pressure Halo by putting his problems on his shoulder too and now seeing Halo, he couldn’t hold back.

Niam and Halo sat on the floor against his bed after Niam calmed down. Halo rested his head on Niam’s shoulder while Niam rested his head on Halo’s head. 

“So, how did this happen?” Halo asked him.

Niam took in a deep breath and started, “I don’t want to bring up forgotten emotions, but it happened that night we caught Romeo cheating. You were asleep when Justin came in trying to use his toilet, so after I opened it, he was surprised to see us. I told Kat before that she should disappear and that I’d pay her if she said she took us home. Well, Romeo went looking for you by my house and yours but did not find us and came back. So before he came back, I found out that Justin has a two-way mirror so that he can record everyone fucking in his room to hold something against them and so, even before I could ask him to pretend that he didn’t see us, he threw gas into the bathroom to knock you out and dragged me to the bed. He was ready to rape me and almost did, but stopped when he saw how I looked. I explained it to him and after he understood it, he still wanted to sleep with me and so we did and please believe me when I say that I couldn’t fight him.”

Niam wiped his tears away and continued, “He wouldn’t even stop. He fucked me swollen in both my ass and pussy. Then Romeo came in and dragged you away. I don’t know what they spoke about, but after Romeo left with you, he fucked me again.”

Halo hugged his friend and said, “Niam, that was three weeks ago.”

Niam sniffled with a nod. “I know. I’m two and a half weeks pregnant. I was so scared Halo and I wanted to ask for your help but I knew you were dealing with Romeo and so I didn’t want to put stress on you.”

“We’re friends, Niam,” Halo said sternly.

Niam sighed and nodded. “I know. Will you be the baby’s godfather?”

“Hell no, Imma be his or her godmama,” Halo said, making them both chuckle.

Niam let out a heavy sigh and pulled the plates towards him, he picked up a raspberry cupcake and continued, “So, Justin also threatened me saying that I might die because I lied to Romeo about the texts and shit but I already knew that. I have your back more than anyone, but anyway. I was sick during the week and when I missed my period, I started freaking out. Then I saw Justin kept phoning me and I pieced it all together. We finally spoke during the week, and he seems to be happy about the baby, but we have to keep it under wraps.”

“So you’re going to walk around school with a big belly while he hangs around with his girlfriend?” Halo asked with a scoff.

Niam shook his head, “While you’ve been home, shits been crazy at school. Horizon High is being turned upside down by Gina. The day after he and I were at the hospital, Gina was going around asking who was fucking Justin and she yelled she was going to kill everyone if no one came forward.”

Halo stared at him wide-eyed and asked, “And she has no clue about you two?”

Niam nodded his head, “Yes, and my father made it perfectly clear to him he had to play his part as our child’s parent. You know, I didn’t expect Justin to be the person he is. He has this whole don’t fuck with me attitude, but he is so careful around me. Every day he sends me money for lunch or brings me what I crave at night and he even willingly brought me here and will be back to fetch me in three hours.”

“I have an inkling that he is gay. Romeo… he mentioned before that Justin was interested in you,” Halo said.

Niam nodded his head. “I don’t know how I am going to get through this. I understand why he wants to keep this between us. Gina is crazy and might kill our child.”

“And I’ll get Romeo to kill her ass,” Halo said, and leaned back against the bed.

Niam turned to look at him and asked, “So, how are things with you and Romeo?”

Halo chuckled and shook his head, “Well, I’ve been fucking crying like its nothing and I am even afraid of going back to school. He told me it was his ex.”

“But I don’t understand. Why did he sleep with her when he was fucking you a few hours before?” he asked.

Halo nodded his head. “We’ve been together for five months now and I love Romeo, Niam. He is my first and to get hurt like this? It’s ruining my mental health. I’m so afraid of going to school because I’ll see his ex there and I don’t know if he has been with both of us or if it was just that. I want to ask him, but I don’t want to hear his voice or see him.”

Niam sighed with a shake of his head and said, “No one said dating would be easy, especially when it’s your first relationship.”

Halo chuckled and countered, “No one said it would be easy to have a baby daddy while you are a man.”

“Nice one!” Niam cheered on and leaned against Halo. He bit Halo’s cheek and said, “Let’s do this. We’ll both move on and be each other’s support and take life one step at a time together. You will get over Romeo or give him another chance and I will need help walking one of these days.”

Halo nodded his head and said, “But I don’t know how to move forward with Romeo. I haven’t spoken to him since that night. I’ve just been listening to him speak, but it’s not like I’ve accepted everything.”

Niam folded his arms and said, “Well, my plan is to go to school for the next few months until break, then go work at the shop. He’s been wanting me to run the shop, and he was so happy. When I told him about my pregnancy, he seemed down and said, ‘Well, at least the twins have a cousin.’”

Halo nodded and said, “Mikyle is all kinds of crazy and since I’ve been not going to school, he has me working my butt off.”

Niam shrugged and toasted two cupcakes together and handed one to Halo, saying, “Here is to a new beginning.”

“Yes, yes,” Halo cheered on and went silent while he thought about Romeo.
