Chapter 32: Chapter 31

Romeo pulled up beside Justin’s car and climbed out. Halo climbed out too and walked over to Romeo and hugged him. Halo looked up at him and asked, “Why have you been quiet all morning?”

Romeo cupped his face and kissed him on the nose. Looking into his eyes, he answered, “There are a lot of things going through my mind.”

“Is it about last night?” Halo asked, concerned.

Romeo nodded his head. “Yeah, I’m not a fan of rapists.”

Halo rolled his eyes and said, “And here I thought it was about the other thing.”

“What other thing?” Niam asked, walking up to them.

Romeo’s eyes immediately flew down to Niam’s stomach. He frowned when he saw he was wearing an oversized shirt because Niam was someone who loved to express himself through his clothing.

Niam patted his shirt down and asked, “Is there something wrong with my shirt?”

“You look fine,” Justin said, walking over and looked down at Niam.

Romeo and Justin clapped up while Niam, and Halo hugged.

The friends heard a crash followed by a grunt and when they looked over at the boys, Romeo had Justin pinned up against Justin’s car and the window broke, cutting Justin’s face.

Romeo choked Justin and said, “You’ve been pretending like you did shit and still got the balls act like you ain’t a coward!”

Halo and Niam tried to pull Romeo off Justin, but they couldn’t. It wasn’t until Mason rushed over and broke them up.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you want to kill him?” Mason growled at Romeo.

“I should, shouldn’t I?” Romeo asked with a smirk.

The school security, along with one of the teachers who just arrived, came over and asked, “What happened here? Why is he bleeding?”

Romeo looked at the man and smirked. He knew this man very well, especially since he was an ass kisser.

Romeo turned to Justin, who was getting his wound attended to by his girlfriend. He shook his head and turned to Halo and saw that both other them were scared and crying, “Go to class you two.”

Halo looked at Romeo and asked, “You good?”

Romeo nodded his head as he sighed inwardly. “Yeah.”

As Halo left, they went inside and heard someone’s loud gossip. “Did you hear? The police went to Nicola’s house. Her parents found her dead in the bathroom. They say it looks like suicide, but the police believe it’s homicide.”

Niam looked at Halo and was about to say something but Halo interrupted him, “I told Meo that Justin raped you. He was pissed the entire night and he couldn’t sleep. Even this morning he was quiet, and if I knew he was going to do that to Justin, I wouldn’t have said anything.”

Niam’s mouth hung open, and he was speechless. He and Romeo butted heads many times and if he knew Romeo would defend his honour, he would have been nicer to him.

“Mr Washington, how are you feeling today?” Mr Walker asked him.

Romeo looked at the principal as he answered, “Just peachy.”

Mr Walker looked down at Romeo’s file and said, “Romeo, I do not know what to make of the situation you put yourself in. You are a top student of Horizon High School and not only is it academics but sports too, which you disappointingly dropped. Apart from all your achievement’s, there have been recent developments in your extracurricular activities that have come to light. Things are not looking good for you.”

Romeo rolled his eyes. “They couldn’t prove shit, so how is that still on my record?”

Mr Walker stared at him and said, “How about you explain to me what made you hurt your friend?”

Romeo sat up and said, “That is none of your business, sir.”

“Romeo, you injured another student who should be your friend and you show no remorse! How am I going to explain this to his parents and the other parents when they come asking questions? Nurse Hewitt said that Justin’s face will be scarred for life because of your actions,” Mr Walker said, and was interrupted by Romeo.

“Yes, and that will remind him to never fuck up again!” Romeo answered.

“How? What did he do?” Mr Walker asked, frustrated.

The secretary knocked on the door, “Excuse me, Mr Walker, the police are here and they would like to speak to you outside.”

“Is it about the news we received this morning?” Mr Walker asked.

She nodded her head. “I am afraid so.”

Mr Walker got up and said to Romeo, “We are not done here.”

He left and Romeo pulled out a packet of Jellies he swiped from Angela’s sweet drawer and opened it. He started eating it and when he was almost done; the door swung open and in walked the detective that was on Romeo’s case.

Romeo rolled his eyes as the man smirked. “So we meet again, Mr Washington.”

“Detective Rowen,” Romeo greeted as he fixed his posture.

He sat down in the principal’s seat as the principal and another officer stood at the closed door.

Detective Rowen looked at Romeo and said, “You certainly got yourself into trouble. Hurting another student whom you are friends with? Romeo, this makes me think you really are a street thug.”

Romeo stared at him blankly as he said, “What is your point?”

“Did you arrive at the school intending to hurt your friend?” Detective Rowen asked.

Romeo nodded his head. “Yes.”

“Why? What did he do?” Detective Rowen asked.

“If I didn’t answer him, what makes you think I will answer you?” Romeo asked him instead and glanced at the principal.

Detective Rowen stared at Romeo and said, “I believe you have a powerful motive in a case that dropped onto my lap in the early hours of the morning.”

“Oh wow,” Romeo said, and slumped in the chair.

Detective Rowen saw the packet Romeo was eating out of and asked, “Is that a nervous habit? Do you have anything to be nervous about?”

“Detective, why are you always insinuating shit? I’m hungry and this pale human took his damn time with you outside, so of course, I would be hungry,” Romeo explained.

Detective Rowen cleared his throat and asked, “Let me just get to the point so you can eat. Do you know a Nicola Steward?”

“Yeah,” Romeo answered.

Detective Rowen narrowed his eyes and asked, “How?”

“She’s obsessed with my ass because I dicked her down many times,” Romeo answered as he pulled out a brownie from his pocket.

Detective Rowen asked, “When last have you seen her?”

“At school last week? Why?” Romeo asked as he took a bite of the brownie.

“Just answer the questions. When last have you spoken to her?” He asked.

Romeo thought it over and answered, “I blocked her ass everywhere but she keeps phoning with a new number sooo about two days ago.”

Detective Rowen sighed and asked, “Did you hear what happened to her?”

Romeo yawned as he asked, “Did she finally get a boyfriend?”

Detective Rowen looked at his colleague briefly, then back at Romeo. He opened up a manila folder and said, “You sure know how to act.”

 He slid it over to Romeo and said, “Take a look.”

Romeo sat up and looked at the first picture and it was of Nicola in the morgue on a table stitched up and blue. Romeo frowned and quickly looked through all the pictures frantically, then paused and looked up at Detective Rowen and asked, “What the fuck happened to her?”

Detective Rowen stared at Romeo for a few seconds, looking for something, then explained, “She was found dead by her parents, who returned home from a business meeting. She was strangled by an unknown object that barely left a mark. Her wrists were slit, and she bled out, making it seem like she committed suicide, but there was no letter. We believe she was killed, and it has something to do with you.”

“How?” Romeo asked, confused.

“We do not know how she was strangled. Nor was there a trace of someone entering the house. Nicola would have let in the perpetrator if she knew them or this was done by a professional,” he explained further.

Romeo shook his head. “Wait, why are you telling me all of this? Shouldn’t you be out there looking for whoever did it?”

Detective Rowen looked at Romeo and asked, “Do you know of anyone she could have double crossed?”

Romeo shook his head, “Not really, but my boyfriend wanted her dead and Niam slapped her ass.”

Detective Rowen raised a brow and asked, “Why would he want her dead?”

“Because she’s obsessed. Don’t you see she has pictures of me on her damn wall, too?” Romeo asked, and shook his head.

Detective Rowen looked at the Principal and asked, “Can I speak to those two boys please?”

The principal nodded his head and asked his secretary to hand him their files, and called them. He came back and handed the files to Detective Rowen, who went through it and frowned. “What is a True Intersexual Hermaphrodite?” he mumbled.

“Someone who can get another pregnant as well as fall pregnant,” Romeo answered.

“Well, damn,” Detective Rowen commented, and considered the possibility.

“Can you wait outside while I speak to them?” he asked.

“Hell, the fuck no! Just now you make it seem like Nicola and I are still fucking,” Romeo said.

Detective Rowen sighed. “Does he have trust issues?”

“No,” Romeo answered, but thought otherwise.

“Then wait outside, please,” he said.

Romeo sat outside as Halo and Niam followed behind the secretary. Halo had a lunch bag in his hand as he walked over to Romeo and said, “I told your ass to fucking eat this morning!”

Romeo took the bag happily and slapped Halo on his butt. “Thanks kitten.”

“What do they want?” Niam asked.

“I don’t know, but Nicola is dead and they think it’s me,” Romeo said before biting down on the chicken sandwich.
