Chapter 35: Chapter 34

Several months later…

“I honestly don’t understand why you have my eyes covered and why the fuck is my ass hurting? You have me sitting here for so long that it went numb,” Halo complained.

Romeo smiled and turned to look at him. He was taking Halo somewhere and Halo could just not wait. “Just a few more miles Kitten,” Romeo assured him.

Halo rolled his eyes under the blindfold and huffed, “I don’t understand why you can’t just tell me. It would have been better if you said it was a surprise for our anniversary or you are taking me somewhere special, but no, your black ass just blindfolded me and said let’s go.”

“We’re here now. Keep quiet, okay,” Romeo said, and turned serious.

He pulled up outside the warehouse and saw Vanessa’s car parked. And shook his head. She just had to show up here on the day he brought Halo. Why the hell did he tell her?

He switched off the car as he parked it and climbed out. He jogged over to Halo’s side, opened the door, and whispered, “You can get out now.”

“About fucking time!” Halo complained and held his hand out for Romeo to hold, but there was nothing. Halo cocked his head to the side and said, “This princess isn’t about to get out and fall by herself. You better help me!”

Romeo chuckled and shook his head. No matter the situation, if Halo was with him, nothing could be taken seriously.

He took Halo’s hand in his and helped him out. He hugged Halo to himself and kissed him on the lips. Looking down at him, he said, “Do you know I keep falling more and more for you?”

Halo pursed his lips and said, “You better.”

Taking Halo by his hand, and said, “So I want you to stay as calm as possible and to not scream or ever talk about this to anyone. Do you understand me?”

Being guided by Romeo, Halo listened to him and was confused. He turned to look at him and asked, “Does this have something to do with your job again? Romeo, I can’t take another dead body. Please don’t make me kill another person.”

They stopped at the door, and Romeo knocked on it. He looked down at Halo and chuckled, “I will never make you kill someone again. This is safer and remember Halo, you are not allowed to say no to me. Only you can do this because I am trusting you with great responsibility.”

“Errr, just hurry and show me so I can see the world again,” Halo complained, trying to hide his nervousness.

The door opened, and Cordell looked at the two of them. He nodded his head and let them in; Romeo led Halo through the silent warehouse that had many bodies busy working.

He opened the door to the greenhouse, and they stepped in, closing the door behind him.

“You can take it off now,” Romeo said, and walked over to the opposite end of the room.

Halo took off the blindfold, and his first reaction was to wait for his eyes to adjust. He then looked around and his heart dropped to the pit of his stomach. He found Romeo between all the marijuana and quickly rushed to his side. Romeo looked at him oddly and asked, “Why do you look frightened?”

Halo looked around again and said, “Romeo, where the fuck are we? You really are doing drugs!”

“Selling them, yes I am,” Romeo said. He wrapped his arm around Halo’s shoulder and said, “But this is just the starting point. What I need you to do is in that room.”

Halo looked at the door Romeo was pointing at and even though he did not want to go in there, Romeo was dragging him.

They walked through the door and were given masks to wear and protective gear. Romeo walked over to the iron table with five twenty litre buckets on it and pulled out a paper from his pocket.

Halo walked over to Romeo as he unfolded the paper and looked around. The buckets were labelled, “Liquid 1”, “Liquid 2”, “Powder 1”, “Powder 2” and “Powder 3.”

He stopped in front of Romeo, who handed him the paper and said, “Our head pharmacist has taken leave for six months and we need someone to produce our drugs for us. On the paper I just handed you is the recipe he left behind for you and in those buckets are the ingredients. I have to go smelt some weapons, so have fun.”

“Wait, wait, wait, Romeo, I didn’t come here to have you make me make drugs, Romeo. What the fuck! I thought you didn’t want me involved in this, but now you are involving me?” Halo said, utterly confused while his body trembled.

The door swung open, and in walked Vanessa with her men holding black duffle bags in their hands. Halo was shocked when he saw her and before he could say something, she smiled at him and said, “Rome is doing this so that he can keep taking you on dates. Rome and I were told that Misty can only trust someone who knows their way around the kitchen and you are that person, specifically because you will be protected with our money-making secret by Romeo.”

“Miss Vanessa, why are you here?” Halo asked her.

“I am Romeo’s boss and the one making sure all the kids at Horizon High and all the schools in the country are taking drugs and you, my dear Halo, will now work for Mikyle and myself,” Vanessa spoke.

She turned to her men who walked over to Halo and placed the four duffle bags in front of him and she said, “In those bags are twenty-five hundred thousand each and all that money belongs to you now until next month.”

Halo couldn’t utter a word. He looked down at the bags and, as if he knew what Halo was thinking, Romeo walked over, unzipped the bags and showed it to him.

“If you are not happy with the money in front of you, I can transfer it to an off-shore account and hand you a linked bank card. You will also get to see your father often by joining us, even though I know you do not care about him as much as you should,” she said.

Halo’s mind blanked out after seeing the money and he had his eyes on his boyfriend. Romeo sighed and said, “Boss, let me deal with this and I’ll get back to you.”

“Please do, and I want to taste the first batch tomorrow morning,” she said and left. 

As the doors closed, Halo’s gaze turned to a glare, and he slapped Romeo across the face. “Really Romeo? Are you fucking serious?” Halo said and walked off to a chair.

He sat down and closed his eyes, trying to calm himself down, and heard Romeo speak. “Halo, I know this is fucked up, but it’s the only way I can stay alive. A few years ago, I killed my father after I found out that I was born of rape and walked in on him, forcing my mother. I would have gone to jail, but thanks to Zayev May, he helped me get rid of the body. Vanessa then recruited me into the mob and since then I’ve been working for her, selling drugs and killing people. I killed a cop, remember? To get the case to fall through the cracks, I had to bring you in to take Misty’s place until he comes back. Then you’ll be free of doing this unless you chose to continue. Look, Halo, I’m sorry, but I even caused the mob a lot of shit with Nicola ratting on me. I would have killed her immediately, but that would have raised suspicion and that is why I killed her later on, I…”

“JUST SHUT UP OKAY!” Halo yelled at him and stood up. He had tears in his eyes and said, “This is the last time I’m ever doing something for you! Get the fuck out of my sight, and I no longer want to be in a relationship with you.”

“Halo, please don’t say that. I know I shouldn’t have done this but I, I, before I met you, I didn’t give a shit about my life but you, you changed me and I know if I died because I’ve fucked up, what about you? I would have left you behind and…” Romeo started.

“And what? Do you think this is any better?” Halo asked him.

Romeo stared at him and said, “Halo, please don’t do this to me. I love you and I can’t be without you again.”

“Just leave Romeo, you’ve done enough and I can’t be with someone who willingly gave me up to the dogs,” Halo said and sat back down.

Romeo looked at him and could feel that he was about to cry, his lips started trembling and to avoid looking weak in front of Halo, he turned around and walked off but as strong as he thought he was, Halo already saw the tears in his eyes but he was too angry to run after his idiot boyfriend.

Halo looked at the recipe on the paper and frowned reading the last line on the page, “I’m sorry for getting you involved, I am only doing this because I know I can trust Rome because he’ll protect what and who he loves.”

The tears fell from Halo’s eyes, and he couldn’t believe what he did. He loved Romeo, and they had gone through so much and to just leave him again, why did he do that?
